ilayaraja sir with just pen and paper and music is ready within 30 mins for entire 2 hour movie- all songs and background score- once music notes is given to musicians they only need to play the instrument.
There is no other music composer in the world who can finish music score at such speed. He is most prolific composer not jsut in india but whole world.
Very much true. Ask artists from Budapest who had accompanied him on world tours for concerts abroad will vouch for his knowledge of music , how much they have learnt and their love for him .
In the same way enquire with troupe members of late R D Burman, music director who accompany the wizard Illayaraja for his recording in mumbai will reveal how perfect he is ready in his rehearsal of songs by giving them their well written notes before hand to avoid any confusion at the time of recording to finish recording of all songs within a day in the stipulated time of 8 hrs, which ended with all the members of the troupe giving a standing ovation to the legend on completion of his recording of songs for the film.
This was revealed by another legend SPB in an interview with a channel to add that a member of a troupe talked him rudely not to come to Mumbai i to record their songs in a studio since they will not get over time for their work. Such was the genius of Illayaraja.

I encourage my Hindi brothers to listen to Ilayaraja's original works because most of the magic that happens in his songs is the harmony (i.e., electric guitar and piano chords, string section and brass section, and the amazing bass lines). There are so many of Mr.Illayaraaja original creations are all from 1970, 1980, 1990 are all way ahead of its decade.
Those are all purely instantly written musical notes within maximum 30mins after the situation of the song was narrated by director of the film.
This man deserves a very high level of appreciation. All his soulful melody songs are believed to be having a divine touch as he very much says all his efforts attained because of goddess blessings.
He laughs and says he never ever worked hard to write notes for any of his musical compositions on any of his (even super hit) songs, when asked in public to him "how you created so many hit songs which are unique styles, you must have worked so harder for everytime" in a stage infront of so many audiences. Meaning, he never gets stressed or struggled to compose any music song or for films as he did all very casually and effortlessly. This is very surprising element to know now as we all knew how much every music composer struggles to download Arabic and Korean song tunes for inspiration for composing songs to make them hit. !

Eventually it won him National Film Award for Best Background Score.

Ilayaraja's Western Classical Fusion albums "How to Name it" and "Nothing but Wind" in the 1980's, earned him the title MAESTRO. It is one of the FINEST I've ever heard. He has also composed for SONG-LESS movies, proving how important a Background Score is for the movie. He also gave huge importance to the song PRELUDES and INTERLUDES while other music directors used them as mere "fillers".

Maestro illayaraja sir is the greatest genius of India. Many of his songs were so melodies and even in 2018 & in the future people will keep on listening to his songs. Hindi music directors surely must had made lump-sum money & fame by copying illayaraja's songs, they should atleast give some credit to him.
Cheeni kum music is by Ilayaraaja sir, so that cannot be considered as copy. As said by another user he was asked by Balki to reuse his own old hits for this film, which Ilayaraja ஐயா did in his own way.

R. D. Burman was a great fan of Illayaraja. He used to watch Illayaraja's recordings in Chennai. Once RDB remarked that Illayaraja Was ten years advanced. In fact Illayaraja was and is a century in advance.

His works for early Mani Ratnam movies, Barathiraja movies, K. Balachander movies, Rajini, Kamal, Mohan, Ramarajan are Legendary... His songs still ageing like a fine wine... He was the considered as the greatest indian composer and 3rd greatest modern day film composer in the world, which was only next to Williams and Morricone. He was also placed at 9th position at the list of greatest composers ever lived... His composition for the song "Raakamma Kaiya thattu" from the movie "Thalapathy" was voted as 4th most popular song of all time by people from 103 countries... Apart from many legendary works, he also inspired many generations of music directors... He was the first Asian to compose a symphony at the Royal Philhormonic hall in London... Crazy right??? The fact that this legendary composer was never awarded a "BHARAT RATNA" by our Government was the most foulest thing ever...
