    I absolutely love the Gelgoog. It took me a while to appreciate it, but when it finally hit, I couldn’t resist. I’m ecstatic about the panel lines and detail, just thick enough to survive a coat of paint and primer. When I finally get to it, I’m going to paint it in the Unicorn era green colors. Awesome review.

    Might actually pick this one up. The Gelgoog is my favorite OYW era Zeon mobile suit, and I love that this kit has a healthy amount of surface detail. I'm quite the opposite when it comes to detail, as I prefer a more realistic appearence. Never been a fan of 100% anime accuracy since they never feel like the "real robot" aesthetic to me. That's just my personal preference though. Love your reviews and I hope to see more of the casual Real Grade reviews too!

    If you worry about panel lines taking away from the anime look, grey liner is perfect. Also grey looks just like pencil and though the pencil rubs off much easier, you can find the look that appeals by easily removing pencil, or adding more. Mechanical pencil is totally legit for low contrast lining.

    I just wanted to note that when I built this Gelgoog, mine is posed on my shelf with the shield on the arm. No droopage yet after a couple of months of holding that pose. I just tilted the arm slighly inwards to cover the body, and it seems to not put all the weight on one side, so the polycap in the waist doesn't sink or droop at all. Maybe it'll 'degrade' in a year, so the urban legend goes, polycaps supposedly 'degrade' over time, which I have yet to see. But for now, seems super solid. I'm actually amazed that it holds the shield so well considering the baloney reputation 2.0 hands have for not being able to hold weapons. It holds this giant shield with just the 2.0 hands a lot better than my Ver Ka Nu Gundam holds its own beam rifle, and it doesn't flop around or wobble at all. My 1YW "Zeon" MG shelf is now satisfying, with a 2.0 Char Zaku II, 2.0 Gouf, 2.0 Gelgoog, and 1.5 Rick Dom...I think I like it more than my Gundam shelf.
    Beware if sanding the surfaces with a flat glass file, as the subtle concave curves on the forearm especially may throw you off. Try a different method of nub removal in those areas so you don't ruin it like I did....

  • @IshmaelDoe
    @IshmaelDoe Před 3 lety +2

    I think the reason behind why the panel lines are so overwhelming is because you have used a black paint for them, if you use something like grey the result should be less so. Good luck with your painting.

    Why don't you like panel lines, extra detail is better

    • @redheadphones6
      @redheadphones6  Před 4 lety +1

      I wouldn't say I don't like panel lines, I just prefer things to look how they look in the anime. The anime appearance is how I'm introduced to all these suits so that's the ideal version for me personally. The Turn A for example is littered with panel lines and looks great. It had a ton of panel lines in the anime, so in model kit form it works fantastically. I can also get behind some minor additions just to spice things up, like the leg panel lines with the Re-GZ and Vigna-Ghina, and those minor tick marks on the Mk-II ver 2.0 and Zaku 2.0. It's when an entire surface is full of random lines and circles like this Gelgoog's legs that it starts to muddy up the design.
      In my mind, simple and bold is much preferred to random details for the sake of details.Too much random detail and we just end up with those live action Transformers, ya know lol.

      @ludovicocammisa9320 Před 4 lety

      @@redheadphones6 personally, I think that anime accuracy is really unreliable, since suits gain and lose detail depending on the distance of the shot...plus I think that, since mobile suits are supposed to be "real robots", they should have quite a lot of panels...I have some model tanks and jets in 1/100 scale and they don't have one smooth surface

    • @redheadphones6
      @redheadphones6  Před 4 lety +1

      A lot of these suits in general aren't very reliable lol. They're fictional giant anime robots, so there's always some leeway, like those example kits I listed above. It's really to each they're own and these designs change over the years. In general though, watching the original 1979 anime you won't see many random lines on the legs outside of 1 or 2 hyper detailed static shots, so that's my preference. A good example of what I'm talking about would be the Robot Damashii ver A.N.I.M.E line. Look up some of those figures, they really nail what I'm talking about when I refer to 'anime accuracy.' www.1999.co.jp/eng/10522569 Here's the recent Gelgoog release.
