  • Debuting in 1995, Star Trek: Voyager resulted in one of the most recognizable designs of a starship not called Enterprise, as well as a series of model kits that were actually produced by a rival manufacturer.

      Me too. The Akira is my favorite ship that is not a hero vessel. And I like it better than many of the heroes.

    I built the revell kit for a friend but I found 2 major errors.
    1, two of the upper decals are actually handed but were printed the same making 1 unusable.
    2, the shuttle was actually to big to fit through the bay door

    • @scaleicons

      Fascinating! I knew the shuttle was out of scale, but I hadn’t heard about he decal issue. Thanks for writing in!

    I built the 1/630-scale Voyager shortly after Revell released it and it went together very well.

    Excellent documentary video! I've got two of the 1/1000 kits and 3 of the 1/670 scales to be given different names. I also scored one of the special edition sets that are in the 1/1400 scale to match the other 1/1400 ships.
    1/1000 scale is definitely friendlier for the display shelf. I also love the sheer number of Trek models in that scale. It really helps you compare the sizes of the different ships.

    • @scaleicons
      @scaleicons  Před 17 dny +1

      Thanks for the kind words! I do agree that after decades of AMT box scale releases, having a consistent line of 1000 scale ships to display together is a dream. I picked up the PL kit before this video, but passed on the larger Revell kit because it was just too expensive to buy overseas and ship to Canada. That said, I’m very surprised with the size of the PL kit and think it will look great with my own 1000 scale fleet.

    Voyagers title sequence isn’t fully CG. It’s a mix. Most noticeable is just after the title appears there’s a very obvious and prominent close up of the model flying by

    I have all of these kits, in my opinion the Revell kit is far superior in both scale and detail. But the best one of all is the Bandai model, it's expensive now and I don't consider it a “model kit“ in the classic sense, more like a piece of IKEA furniture with some assembly required, but it's a beautiful model!

    • @scaleicons
      @scaleicons  Před 17 dny

      I can’t argue with that. Because of the smaller size and molding limitations, R2 had to skimp on some of the details for their kit. I’ve never built a Bandai kit, but it looks impressive.

    At one point you say Racing Champions, AKA RC2, developed into Round2 models, wrong!! Back in 2003 a company called Playing Mantis was the original owner of Polar Lights along with a line of die cased called Johnny Lightning, RC2 wanted the Johnny Lightning line so they bought out Playing Manits. Some time after that Tom Lowe who founded Playing Matis founded Round2 models was able to borrow the molds from RC2 and began rereleasing the old AMT Trek kits along with improved decal sheets and was eventually able to buy all of the model kit molds from RC2 and at least 2 of those Star Trek kit molds were made more accurate.

    4:13… “Voyager was unique. Not only was it the first Star Trek series on network tv since 1969…”.
    Are you kidding me? ST:The Animated Series, TNG, DS9… I guess those skipped network airing and were only available on cable and VHS then!?!?!
    Check your facts before uploading… I mean you even took the time to add that as text in your video and still didn’t catch yourself.
    If you can’t get that simple fact right, why would I stay to watch and listen to anything else?

    • @scaleicons
      @scaleicons  Před 6 dny

      Those were *syndicated*, not network tv productions. Voyager was the first Trek produced by a network for air on a network. Thanks for watching.

    • @peterpanpooh
      @peterpanpooh Před 6 dny

      @@scaleicons Perhaps that is the fact that should have been presented in the video instead.
      Syndication… especially first airing… only means that there were not any network exclusivity deals. Any individual station, regardless of network affiliation, could choose to purchase Star Trek for broadcast in their market. All Star Trek prior to Voyager, did in fact, air on network tv!
