    A stunning deck....one I’m not planning to buy because I don’t think I’d connect to it from a reading standpoint but I absolutely love looking at the beautiful imagery so I really enjoyed the walkthrough!

    I received my copy in December and haven't touched it since. I probably shuffled it once or twice. It is so beautiful but for some reason I find it sort of cold. All characters in the cards seem like Greek Gods to me. Hovering above ground. I have problems connecting but I'm not giving up till I find time to work with it properly. It is stunning though.

      It is for sure one that takes some time similar to the Mary-El for me. There's a lot there to work through and connect with.

    Honestly, I didn't think it would read like it does...it looked kind of cold, like a supermodel with no soul...however, I really loved that he had the decks with a misspelling...I am a terrible speller...call it kizmet, the "heirophant" sold me the deck. And thank goodness, because it is like sucking a reading out of deep space. I love the illustrations, and the more I use it, the warmer it gets. I find the readings to be...heh heh - out of this world!

    Grear video! This deck is simply breathtaking. I agree that a larger art book to go along with this would be wonderful and I'd love to do a deep dive on this later this year.

    This deck is just divine. I am drawn to the RW to begin with but this I connect with already and I don't even have them yet. The appeal of this, the call of it, is just intense. The elements are so brilliantly represented. The majors are just stunning. I am very much an air element and so while some find these cards cold, I find them penetrating. I will get my deck in the new year. Thanks for this review!

      3 months late, but same here! I can definitely see why others perceive it as cold--the hash contrast between light and darkness, the anonymous figures, and the lack of the background scenes may lend to the cold perspective. But I found that it was precisely because of these traits that drew me in. The intensity of the cards and the laser focus on their meanings prevent my air-dominant qualities from straying haha

    another awesome review 💙 I wasn't amazed by the deck at first glance.. I loved the whole blackish simplistic tone and the shadow play first but wasn't totally sure about the archetypes chosen.. then I noticed how true it's to the original RWS meaning and absolutely started to heart mainly the deck's minor arcana since it's pretty thoughtful and variable, not so homogenous as minors in many other decks.. also heart how the artwork is explained, the thought behind the drawings, all the lil details, movement shown, totally adore how the animals are displayed and rly started to enjoy the Angel like archetypes and their statuesque musculature.. 😍 pre-ordered it as my 4th tarot deck yesterday, your review helped a lot, ty :)

    I just got mine ♥️ I love it, everything about it is aesthetically pleasing, the feel of it in my hands is.. wow. I had to show it off to all my friends right when I got it. It’s not one I can imagine using as a main deck, simply because- like others have said- I don’t connect to it well- maybe I also find it a little cold. Maybe that will change. Or maybe it will just be one for special occasions- I would love to see a deck with the same sort of quality that I DID want to work with a hundred times a day, however.

    Thank you for another outstanding review, descriptions, and walkthrough for this new Tarot deck. What a unique and gorgeous deck and said to be very sturdy (scratch & splash resistant). I’m a bit blown away by the $85 cost and hope it includes shipping. It must be printed in NYC with that somewhat higher cost (my personal opinion and budget say ouch). With the slightly thicker card stock and rose petal softness, would like to know how these cards handle and shuffle. It’s nice they are so soft and sturdy, but if they fly off easily or aren’t flexible enough for most commonly used shuffles it would be helpful to know that in advance (even though the order page says “fear nothing”). Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

    • @ModernMetaphysicae
      @ModernMetaphysicae  Před 5 lety +3

      They dont really fly, its not a deck that is easy to bridge or riffle shuffle just because the stock is so thick. If you have the Brady Tarot its like that but thicker, same finish. :)

    • @tamipie
      @tamipie Před 5 lety +2

      If I understand your question, you wanted to know how it shuffles? I break it up into three sections so I can shuffle. Then I riffle two stacks, break them in half and integrate the next section. I can hand over hand shuffle from the side, because the cards are not too big (which is nice) the soft cardstock does sorta stick to each other when you are sorting through because they are velvety and they aren't slippery. But it's not too bothersome...does that help?

    • @ModernMetaphysicae
      @ModernMetaphysicae  Před 4 lety +3

      The Star is feminine and the sun is a star, so really it just another way of looking at it. Traditionally, the Sun card featured twins, one boy and one girl, when you look at the Tarot De Marseille which was carried over into the Toth. Additionally, when you look towards more eastern esoteric traditions the sun can be associated with the divine feminine - the sun goddess Amaterasu for example in Japan. So in the context in the history of the Tarot and the modern feel of the deck I thought it was a wonderful take on the card.

      @@ModernMetaphysicae Thank you for your response, a modern twist is achieved beautifully; the deck is a piece of art.
      To me tarot is a powerful science; Tarot readers, anywhere in the globe all share similar knowledge. I believe tarot reading is repeatable (hence why I call it a science) and therefore truly meaningful. The sun is male energy in classic tarot symbolism, as I understood it, Alchemy, Western, Chinese, Hindu traditions, …except these you cite and perhaps more. The current full breasted “Marilyn like” sun card with short hair dancing on sunflowers (far from representing the innocence of the twins in the Marseille Tarot) fails to convince me and ( I am laughing as I say this) created a mental block …I appreciate you are much more open and welcoming the idea. A card illustrating the “innocent twins” (like a happy version of the lovers) would have been perfect to settle the apparent gender discrepancies surrounding the sun ☺.

      Tarot has a very long history deeply associated with religious iconography, specifically Christian symbolism, and it wasn't until the turn of the century that other occult and neo-pagan imagery was introduced.
      The Celestial Twins depicted in the Tarot De Marseilles do reflect 'innocence' but the concept of the cosmic twins is much deeper mythos. In some primary sources we also see the twins refereed to as the twins birthed from the cosmic egg who founded Rome; Romulus and Remus. They were also called the "Sons of Seth" or the "Daughters of Seth" as in those who came from the sky, the Annunaki. In the original Hebrew version of the story of Genesis there was a third son born of Adam and Eve, Seth, and it is sometimes thought that these two children represent Seth and Cain. Crowley refereed to them as the Celestial Twins representing the sacred masculine and feminine.
      The concept of the Sun being associated with the divine masculine is prevalent in many cultures, especially western, but even here we see many divine femanine associations. Some examples: in the Tarot De Marseille an association to both genders of the divine. Additionally, in Norse mythology we have Sunna or Sol the goddess of the sun, and Mani the god of the Moon. Áine is another great example of a feminine solar deity. You also cited Chinese mythos as one of masculine associations which is not factually correct as Doumu was the sun goddess and Xihe the goddess of the ten suns. Or my personal favorite the goddess Aurora goddess of the dawn. Even in some cases the solar deities were hermaphroditic like the deity Istanu.
      The masculine association to the Sun in the tarot is relatively new in the span of tarot history from an academic standpoint. I can for sure understand it not resonating with you, and your personal feelings of that card and energy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but stating that the Sun is strictly associations with masculine energy in the tarot, and in the occult is factually incorrect.
      The tarot is full of esoteric and occult symbolism synthesized from many different sources over the last 600 years or so of its existence in as a form we recognize today. To put it succinctly, there is no "correct" gendering of the Sun card in the greater umbrella term of the tarot, or the Sun in the greater sense of the occult or esoteric. There is a lot of grey area, and its one of the things I love most about the Tarot. That being said, in some systems, you are absolutely correct - the Sun is masculine, but in the larger context of the Tarot especially when it comes to classical systems, its definite association with only masculinity did not really evolve until recently from my understanding of Tarot history. The Etteilla Tarot for example has the Sun as Key two representing Solidarity with no gender association. The Wirth Tarot follows the TDM tradition but shows older figures with more adult male and female figures, same with the Minchiate from 1806 where we see an adult male and female seated next to one and other. It was not until the late 1800s is that of the naked male figure on a white horse adopted by A.E. Waite and P. C. Smith for the Rider Tarot. Historically one of the earliest Tarot Cartomantic interpretations of the Sun card we have comes from De Mellet in 1781 in which he describes its meaning as "The Sun. The creation of the Sun and the union of man and woman." To my understanding its strict masculine association is not really a thing until around the time of Levi with was the mid 1800s.
      In the end, all that really matters is what resonates with you. If a female figure on the sun card is not your cup of tea there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I am debating strictly from an academic standpoint and perspective of someone who has a love and passion for Tarot history, I hope that you understand. My writing style can be overly academic and dry and sometimes blunt, ha! In terms of classic tarot symbolism I think we see many more references to the representation of both genders than just one.
      If this sort of discussion and research intrigues you I would HIGHLY recommend the book Mystical Origins of the Tarot by Paul Huson. It has some great information about how the cards, the symbolism, design, and divinatory meanings changed and evolved over time. Rachel Pollack's Tarot Wisdom also covers some of this in a less academic and more digestible approach. I have a few otrhers on my shelf too I can recommend if you would like. :)
      Sorry for the essay. I flipping love discussing this kind of stuff!! I really need to do a Tarot History series on my channel but every time I go to start it I get overwhelmed by everything I want to cover and discuss!!

      @@ModernMetaphysicae Thank you for your response, which is far from dry, I really appreciate your style with evidence and examples, and your passion clearly shines through. A tarot history series is a wonderful idea :) I look forward to that. Have you reviewed "Child of the Universe" by Etre Britta? It is my favorite oracle deck and I would be interested to hear your take. I cannot see it in your videos but I may have missed it.

    The True Black tarot is a stunning work of art but, as a working functioning deck, it leaves me stone cold.
    I have been reading for many years so I'm not a beginner but I would not reach for this deck. Ironically, the Cosmic Tarot that you used to compare card sizes is one of my workhorse decks.
    My personal view is that some indie deck creators are overly focused on creating art works and not decks that someone could actually use.
    Oh well.

      This deck reads amazingly well for me. Not everything is for everyone, and that's OK, but I certainly wouldn't say that creators focus more on art than usability. At the end of the day its a tool, and if it doesn't work for the job you want, find another tool.

    So swords are fire and wands air? Damn.

      In this deck? No. The wands are most certainly fire, and the swords most certainly air. The swords have tones of birds and the wands court alone each hold a wand with fire.
