Inspired from a dream, this song is a gothic waltz about one of the 7 Fabergé Eggs that were lost during the Russian Revolution. A noblewoman attended many of the ballroom dances with her husband at the Neva Enfilade of the Winter Palace. She quickly became jealous of the wife of the Tsar being the only one to have the Imperial eggs and told her husband to steal the one she wanted. He was shot after breaking into the palace and stealing the egg. His wounds were too severe and after bringing the egg back to the noblewoman, he died. Overcome by grief, she took her own life and the egg became cursed. It was then lost during World War I.
Anyone that opens the egg is sent back inside a memory of the Winter Palace, where the ghost of the noblewoman is cursed to dance alone. After she realizes she can no longer be with whom she loved, her ghost kills whoever is stuck inside the memory. This egg is the Relic of Novgorod...

I always think of Grand Duchess Anastasia (or the time period- early 1900s) when this song plays...
Very justified assiciation...prooves that you are on the level of the composer's talent and imagination....rhus music would be ideal for a Russuan film about Abastasia

Russian music is not scary at all ! Scary is the way Westerners usually perceive Russian Music or anything related to Russians or Slavs generally speaking !

there is nothing "Gothic", dark or sppoky in Russian or Slavic music...it is a Western perception based on prejudices ...and their own Gothic and darkish esthetics and fantasies
for that matter;
what is dark and scary about Tchaykovsky or Russian Folk songs?...or Russian Spiritual Choral music ??? This what you are listening is a nice Fantasy music of the contampirary Western composer who is faccinated by that simerhung in Russuan Music and soul that he can nit explain; it us his perceprion abd it us focused on one particular fantasy story thar does not even have any historical ground, but is very inspirative to create a Fantasy Waltz like this. Obviously, the aurhor was inspired by some great Russuan Waltzes by Tchaykivsky or Hachatyriyan....by sine dramatic lements in thise fantastic Walsec...but that is far from being scary. You kniw ...what you see and hear, is what You are! West is constantly projecting its own fears, spoony and scary fantasues and negative and croocked thoughts and feelings on the Other - the unknown territory that scares the shitt out of it:
the East...the Scythians... the Slavs...RUSSIA....

Fantastically haunting and beautiful. I used this as mood music in a Russian-themed RPG session with my group, did the job perfectly!
I've listened to this song for years & I so wish I could listen to it on spotify as well! It inspired one of my favorite scenes I'm writing in my book:
The princess is caught up in an enormous ball, surrounded by friends, family, and dozens of princes, begging to marry her. She dances and chats with them out of politeness. She explains she only likes women to each of them. Many of them accept, but a few do not. They follow her all night, hounding her. They touch her arm and grab her dress, begging for a touch, a kiss, some return of affection, and nothing will sway them. They surround her, begging for her to choose one of them. She grows scared, covering her ears, calling out for help. Suddenly, the men are pulled away from her. Her rescuer - the woman who leads the princess's royal guard - the same woman she has loved for years. The guard extends her hand to her princess and brings her to her feet, straightening her crown and dress, before pulling her back onto the dance floor, and the two dance happily long into the night, wrapped in each other's embrace, to the approval of the king and queen, because their little princess is finally happy.
