Every time I hear " Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight" I start to tear up it makes me so proud of my southern roots
I remember hearing the lyrics "in Atlanta Georgia, there's Peace on Earth tonight" as I sat in uniform at a crowded Atlanta bus terminal on Christmas Eve in 1986, after catching a hop (free flight) on a KC-135 from Minot AFB, ND where I was stationed, to Warner Robins AFB, GA. I was making my way to Charleston (SC) & the Greyhound finally pulled up at 5AM & I was HOME for Christmas! This song, ringing in my Head, kept me going on the Journey!

I remember as a child my mom would put the Alabama Christmas Album on while we decorated the Christmas Tree. Christmas in Dixie would be the song she would step back and admire all our hard work. Hugging each of us. My mom passed away in 1990. This song still brings tears to my eyes with memories. I will always think of my mom’s loving hugs when I hear this song. THANK YOU Alabama!!
Last year December 25th 2018 at 5 Am in the morning Emily Hall joined all the people and angles in heaven , my only thought is that she went on her favorite Holiday. But for those of you who might have known her or the family know that I miss and love her everyday!

This song always brings tears.. My son and I were driving and this song came on the radio. Had never heard it before. I was driving, he reached over to turn the radio up and said, "I really like this song." He was taken from us in an accident in 1991 at the age of 20. I always play this song over and over this time of the year..

My son loved it too...we played this album every year when we put our tree up when raising our son and daughter..sadly our son passed away this past Jan 22, 2022. My heart is completely shattered!!
@@jenniferenglish4546 I am so sorry for the loss of your son Jennifer.. Mine passed away inn 1991 and I miss him still with every breath I take. He was only 20 but would be 51 now. So hard to even imagine. We are having an age progression picture done just to see what he might look like today. We are still not sure we are going to be able to look at it, but we wanted it. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as we get to the holidays.. Holidays are always so hard. My Kevin loved Christmas, and always wanted us to have our tree up the day after Thanksgiving....
It was never Christmas until this album was played. My husband passed several years ago, but we enjoyed a fire and this album together. Our daughter grew up listening too. Miss those precious days.
I know it's not the same for you without your husband , I can't imagine losing my Wife of 34 years, but I'll just say someone in Virginia is thinking of you and wishing you the best 🙏

Listening 🎧 in 2023, similar, mom not in hospice, but not doing well this year. Second year without dad....and she opted not to decorate as usual. I'm ok with that though because it's not about decorations.... just wish we had a better relationship 😢

My son was working in Kuwait a few years ago. He couldn't be home for Christmas. So he took his guitar and made a video for family and friends on Facebook. He sang Christmas in Dixie. It was awesome.

I love Alabama, I'm stuck in the 80s. I heard this song before I left for Fort Jackson S.C. in 1984. I play it on my old Gibson every Christmas. It always tugs at my heart strings. I want it played at my funeral. This song means a lot to 🇺🇸

Ever year, day after Thanksgiving the lights go up this CD plays! My kids probably never gave it a second thought, but I can tell you they are in there late 30’s and early 40’s, when they hear this song it will take them back to the safest most enjoyable times of their lives ♥️

On December 23, 1981 I heard this song for the first time. Traveling from New York City to Glenwood, GA in an 18 wheeler, My husband and I was trying to make it home by Christmas Eve morning. I thought it was the most beautiful Christmas Song I had ever heard. I cried at the lyrics and reminisced with the beautiful melody. Yes Christmas in Dixie was just what my soul need then and now. Mark used to ride 4-wheelers with my wife and children all around Sand Mountain. Ft Payne is in a valley between Sand Mtn and Lookout Mtn. Special times. This was one of many great hits of the band.

"Christmas in Dixie" is one of the most beloved songs by the group Alabama." To this day a lot of people don't know any more about Alabama than "Angels among Us" and " Christmas in Dixie." Alabama lead singer Randy Owen has said.
Released as a single in 1982, the song was included on the 1985 album "Alabama Christmas" and has been a holiday mainstay ever since.
The song refers to several southern locales but it's final lines mention the birthplace of founding member of the band,Randy Owen,Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry:

Growing up we drove from the suburbs of Atlanta to Valley, Alabama every Christmas to see my “maw maw” & all our “kin” family there for our traditional Christmas gathering… we would always play this song on our trip to Dixie… my sweet grandma passed away this past Thanksgiving at 98 - I’ll miss those trips but this song will always bring back the memories ❤
