This is the kind of music I listen to aside from jazz
mortalkombatrulz Yeah. Pink Floyd is ahead of Queen. With Queen, all of their albums were a Dark Side or a Wall or a Wish You Were Here. Queen didn't have any Atom Heart Mothers.
If anything Lynyrd Skynyrd should be higher
Professor Mercury well, Queen didn't ever get into the spotlight until much later here in North America. People also don't remember Queen for albums, they remember them for songs. Honestly, off the top of your head, can you name one song from Sheer Heart Attack besides Killer Queen? Again, people remember Queen for songs, not entire albums. People remember Pink Floyd for albums and songs.

Nirvana is very overrated imo. Alice in Chains is a much better grunge band imo. First off Layne Staley easily had the better singing voice. Not to mention the harmonizing between Jerry cantrell and Layne were great. The AiC instrumentation was also much more complex and better. In the end it's all opinion but I really feel AiC was the better band.
Nirvana is not classic rock and neither is Metallica.

There are no specific Genre named Classic Rock. Bands performed from Early 70's to Early 90 were considered Classic Rock Band. Like 'Deep Purple'. Their Genre was Heavy metal but they are counted as a Classic Rock Band too.

The doors were a band for 4 years the amount that they accomplished, the amount of albums that they put out and the impact on the rock community in that short amount of time is crazy. That's why they rank top 3 for me. I feel like people don't give them enough credit, putting them out side of the top 5 or as honorable mentions.

Is there a top Classic Rock artists list? Because... Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, Elton John, Tom Petty, Springsteen, Clapton
Amen, if there were a rock Mount Rushmore Hendrix and Bowie (in one of his incarnations) would definitely be two of the heads and Clapton & Dylan would be VERY much in the debate. Okay, Bowie wasn't a really a band, still.....? Also, much as I respect Zeppelin and their inclusion on any such list, would they even have existed as they did without The Jimi Hendrix Experience?
This is largely a Top 40's list. I don't think its makers know too much about (other than the inclusion of Pink Floyd) the REAL classic rock.

Pet Sounds/The Smile Sessions are two symphonic rock masterpieces that to this day are unsurpassable. Brian Wilson was a great musical genius and the band progressed rapidly from their earlier Surf Rock numbers. Listen to those 2 albums with headphones in the dark, in stereo.

@@velvetwatermelon2647 Well I agree and disagree at the same time. Pink Floyd has such complex, philisophical and dreamy, doomy lyrics, and the Beatles have simple lyrics. But it's just that simplicity that makes it so beautiful. Blackbird has no ''And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you, no one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun'', but the lyrics give such an unique and beautiful feeling. In My Life is another example of this. No need for poetry as this lyric gives such an warm, nostalgic feeling alone in the fact that it feels so natural, relatable and simple.

In SOYCD they sing about drugs and an drug addict ( which is of course Syd Barett). But no everyone does drugs or lost someone to drugs. But the lyrics above reflect the feeling of losing an better time and remaining close to the ones that are left with you so strong, with the fact that everyone has had such a feeling in their life. Pink Floyd tells philisophical stories, the Beatles talk about feelings, and both do it beautifully. Therefore it's hard for me to decide which one's better.

That is the worst reasoning I have ever heard. I'm not even sure if Queen should be on this list, not because of their lack of success but I don't know if I'd call them "classic rock" but its purest definition. Who cares if some 8 year old can name drop a certain band?

Everybody knows them no matter the age and no matter the ganre. They transcend musical styles. Just because YOU say something that doesn't make it true or meaningful, just the same as when I say something... You don't have to agree with me I just don't understand your reasoning. And why aren't they classic rock? By it's purest definition NO band is classic rock because most of them were good enough to experiment with different sounds and Queen were the best at that. Explain to me please.
The two songs of theirs you referenced mostly stick around today due to how they're used in sporting events and other competitions. Basically the same way "Don't Stop Believing" still is heard all the time. The widespread use of a song because it applies to those situations should have no bearing on a bands ranking in this top 10. The bands above Queen had a much wider influence on music to come after them, and are thus ranked higher. Just because "We Will Rock You" has a catchy beat for fans to clap along with at a basketball game does mean Queen is the number 1 classic rock band.

Well there is a difference... They composed the songs to be used as stadium anthems... It was their full in intent to writte them. Probably not for sporting events but it's a live favorite because it incorporates audiance participation. They have a lot of other songs that almost all people know. I want to break free and almost everybody knows at least the base line to under pressure. Due to a cartoon using their music a kind of magic is also wide spread lately, so I'm not just arguing my stanpoint through 2 songs... But I guess it's a matter of preference. You still haven't anwsered why you don't consider them as classic rock though....
They gained most of their popularity after the perceived "Golden Age" of classic rock, which is up for debate but I'd say 1967-1974. The same way Van Halen isn't widely considered classic rock. Also just their sound in general is more operatic and "poppy" so to speak. I'm not denying their influence or talent, just that I don't think they should ranked above the classic rock greats.

Lynyrd Skynyrd have 2, The Eagles have only 1 (not including singles collections, which The Kinks have several 5 star collections as well). Let's also realize that The Kinks were pioneers in guitar distortion, along with Link Wray. They also turned away from Psychedelia to focus on tight songcraft and succinct form. The Kinks never pandered to what was popular or cool at the time, and that's what truly made them deserving of making this list. If you feel they aren't deserving go ahead and argue your point.

I disagree, Led Zep had most of their musical inspiration from African American Blues. Led zep had more range they had folk, blues, rock, reggae and much more in their albums. The Beatles paved a path, but Led zeppelin did their own thing, with their own style.
THE BEATLES are the only band I'd ever put above LED ZEPPELIN. THE BEATLES & LED ZEPPELIN were by far the two greatest bands ever. You can't compare them though because they're totally different.
