Most of them never went away. Def Leppard have been releasing quality output for ages, I don't think they have made a bad album since High and Dry came out. Unfortunately Rock music can be fatal to some of its participants, Quiet Riot lost their lead Guitarist Randy Rhodes to Ozzy Osbourne's solo project and he died on tour, Hanoi Rocks lost their drummer in a drunk driving accident involving Vince Neil, and cancer respects no one even if you're Eddie van Halen. LA might have been the driving force but there were British bands worthy of a mention in this space. steve was the lead guitarist until 1987, phil kinda took over then and they shared the lead guitar role. they'd take turns depending on the song. however, i truly believe if steve was still alive he'd be viewed the same way we view guys like jimmy page, van halen and maybe even hendrix. it's a crazy thought, but he was viewed as one of the bets of all time at his death, let alone another 30 years to add to that. plus not many guys can shred on an 18 string gibson
Kerri Beaton yep, the whole album was meant to be called uncle toms cabin until label management told Jani they needed a “love in an elevator” style hit single so he wrote cherry pie and simultaneously made and ruined his career. It’s no secret jani hated that song and hated that was what he was going to be remembered by which I’m sure added to his depression. They were so much better than cherry pie
Sexton Hardcastle Totally agree, they really were better. And Jani had one of the best voices of that era. If producers, execs, etc, allowed them their own artistic direction/freedom, they could've possibly stood the test of time like a few other bands have... Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, GnR: all labelled as 80's hair bands back then & each very different. All had longevity after the 80s, leaving the "hair band" image behind and were simply labeled rock/hard rock. Jani could obviously write great ROCK songs, there's *no question* he could sing... And, following his own writing/artistic instincts, could've catapulted them out of the trappings of mullets & makeup...Into the life & legacy I believe he & Warrant deserved. He's definitely missed.😢 Btw, nothing against 80's bands! I love them!
Kerri Beaton 100% 🙏 just listen to mr rainmaker, uncle tons cabin, down boys, the bitter pill etc all great hard rock songs. Would’ve loved to have seen how their career went if they didn’t release cherry pie as a single, I honestly think they could have stood the test of time going into the 90s if jani was given creative permission to write what he wanted. One of the best 80s rock bands from an era that produced some great bands that il always love
Sexton Hardcastle as soon as I saw Mr. Rainmaker I started singing it, lol. You said exactly what crossed my mind ~ what could’ve been if they’d been allowed the freedom of their artistic vision, their path as a band, as opposed to being ordered to create fluff (sorry) like Cherry Pie. It’s a fun song, yes, but it’s filler music. Not a GREAT single when you have gems that you listed! Jani also wrote beautiful ballads. But, Uncle Tom’s Cabin was obviously the direction they wanted to pursue~ a darker, grittier song with substance & a helluva story! The video is fantastic ~ suspense, intrigue, crime. Cherry Pie’s video?! Bobbie Brown on roller skates in shorts getting sprayed with a hose...🙄 The whole band drooling over her. Unoriginal, boring and she’d been in a dozen videos for other bands in similar “roles” already. It’s sad... a great band held back & we never got to see their full potential.😕
I was waiting for Mötley Crüe!! I knew it would be #1 fuck yea!!! I love Mötley Crüe I saw them in Toronto August 26th! I hated to see them go. I wish they could still be playing!
At least you got to see them live once. I'm currently a teenager, and neither of my parents are into this music, so I had to discover them for myself, and by the time I had discovered them, the final tour UK tickets were all sold out :(
+Lucy O'Donoghue how old are you because I'm 14 and idk if they went to the UK or not. I bought a poster and shirt, the shirt had the dates and when they were playing and I don't remember seeing dates outside of America and Canada
+Mitchell Morgan I'm 13 and was this on the final tour? Because I think they did a world tour for that, so they probably wouldn't have been able to get all the dates on :)
From the ages of 19 years thru 29 years. That was some of the best music and times. I may been not been in my teens. But, I worked with high school students who were always asking me the same questions. Hey Walter, Have you heard/bought the new album from this band? I still have the albums today. Pure Memories. Good Memories
+LiveforChrist999 Alice Cooper, Kiss, Aerosmith,Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, Blue Oyster Cult, Ted Nugent, Warren Zevon, Lynaryd Skynyrd, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, David Bowie, ELO, Steve Miller Band, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, ect you need study up more on classic rock your missing out on a ton of classics. Btw I'm aware some of those bands formed in the 60's but their main succses was 70's. On an unrelated not I like the macho man pic but I don't understand living for Christ, is it like supposed to be ironic? If not I also suggest some self exploration and don't just bases your whole existence around a 2000 year old story book
I wish i was born in the 80s because it was one hell of a year. Great bands and musicians like Micheal jackson, acdc, guns and roses, queen, bon jovi and so much more
That's why I think they should have had a proper spot on the list itself. "Honorable mention" basically means they didn't even made it to the bottom of the list so I don't think they deserve to be so lowly considered, given their huge influence to what was happening back then, that paved the way so many of the other bands that were included in the list would still be considered important today. The guys of Hanoi deserve so much better than what they're usually given.
I agree with you. A real music lover would have them at top 5. But Watch mojo is American with focus on bands from English speaking countries so I'm glad that they even remembered them.
@@ZLuv2Bowl motley crue was first on this list because of partying and hair, its not based off talent. if it was then guns n' roses, def leppard and bon jovi would be the top 3 (in no particular order, but they're the best from the decade and crue would be at 4). this is based off just hair and partying pretty much.

He's definitely missed.😢
Btw, nothing against 80's bands!
I prefer Heaven :)
And Mötley Crüe are still "kicking ass!"
I love Bret Michaels interviews. Very well spoken and knowledgeable
They all give me chills, I used to block out a lot of horrible stuff with music and I still do.
Hello Mary,how are you doing,
I was waiting for Mötley Crüe!! I knew it would be #1 fuck yea!!! I love Mötley Crüe I saw them in Toronto August 26th! I hated to see them go. I wish they could still be playing!
I was also just waiting to see motley crue be #1. After reading their book, there is no way they weren't the best
Because I think they did a world tour for that, so they probably wouldn't have been able to get all the dates on :)
they are still that is no why that is there last tour and show
George Lynch is a damn MONSTER on the axe.
Agreed
Most underrated and Lead Guitar Ever.He Made Dokken. Then Lynch Mob
John Collins Him, Mick Mars, CC Deville
Cinderella is definitely more than an honorable mention. Vastly underrated!
From the ages of 19 years thru 29 years. That was some of the best music and times. I may been not been in my teens. But, I worked with high school students who were always asking me the same questions. Hey Walter, Have you heard/bought the new album from this band? I still have the albums today. Pure Memories. Good Memories
Dokken is so underrated
Deeogee- 17 mhm
I know when everyone here is all like "Poison, Motley Crue" I'm just like really...? Ain't got shit on Dokken.
Mother F%@cking POWER SKULL!!! czcams.com/video/v-tBK7J0jJc/video.html
According to this list they're not.
You mean OVERrated
I thought Stryper would be on this list
Man they were and still are so Underestimated 🫡🙏🏻🙏🏽🎸🎶🎤
I love all these bands and songs from the 80s its made me who in am today thank you for all the great life lessons and memories
Hello Tammy,how are you doing/
We need the 80’s back I want to experince it
Can't believe W.A.S.P wasn't even an honorable mention
Idk if wasp is hair metal but maybe
@@danielmalsch3832 What else would you call 'em?
@George Lynch lol
Minish Eh
Wasp is more heavy that all those banda in this top
I'm 15 now and all I listen to is 80's...
Start listin to the rock of the 60s and 70s. Thank me later kid
If not I also suggest some self exploration and don't just bases your whole existence around a 2000 year old story book
you forgot journey :-)
Vixen, Lita Ford, Doro... all super badass women. Joan Jett. Grim Reaper.
Want a cookie?
If Mötley Crüe isn't here I will be PISSED
I wish i was born in the 80s because it was one hell of a year. Great bands and musicians like Micheal jackson, acdc, guns and roses, queen, bon jovi and so much more
The 80’s was the best music era ever!!
I'm happy to see Hanoi Rock in honourable mention. They might not have sold that many records but they were an influence to many of the other bands.
Reine H RIP Razzle
rip razzle🥺
Influenced Guns N' Roses and Poison greatly
Where’s Guns and Roses? Are they not described as being a hair band? Epic best of all time❤️ Ahhhh to have the 80s back. Lol
Not metal tho. But if they were to be included, I'd take Bon Jovi out
Guns N Roses is mostly classified as hard rock.
Guns and Roses are a hard rock band not a hair band
Guns n' Roses is most Hard Rock
Everyone on this list was either HairMetal or GlamMetal. GnR was neither. Although, I’d rather see them here than Warrant. I despise Warrant!!!🤢🤮
Ahhhh the good ol days, when Vince Spoke English on stage 😆
I knew Mötley Crüe had to be number one! Definitely my number one!!
Q
Yess!
Its not a good list to be on especially number one.
While I got into the heavier metal genre's from the 80's and early 90's I still love my glam / hair metal. So many classic songs from the 80's era.
Testament 😎❓
@@alexanderhaden0158 Yes definitely love that band.
I saw most of this bands in the 80 s , so when they come around i do not miss the chance to see them again. 🎸 🎸 🎸 🎶 🎶
Hell yeah, Motley Crue at Number One, long live the Crue and there music.
Cinderella - honorable mention?! Are you guys drunk? 😐
RIGHT???
Should have been in the top 5
Winger ? also a great band - in fact most of those honorable mentions
Remove bon Jovi and def Leppard replace them with winger and Cinderella and then don't put bon Jovi or Leppard in the honerable Mentions
I remember selling meth to those guys
@@tolfan4438 mmm meth yummy....
You've got to be kidding me Cinderella and Skid Row only honorable mentions?!
How could Bon Jovi not be #1? 130 + million albums sold and still putting out great music today makes them stand alone.
Yes, Bon Jovi is one of the best bands of all time. This legend will never die 🤘🎸🖤
Bon Jovi didn't get #1 because they are not Motley Crue. Let me know if I can clear anything else up for you.
i think def leppard is better than bon jovi, but bon jovi is without a doubt number two tbh
I loved always number 4 Bon Jovi because they are my favorite artist of all time
@Jon Vadnais thanks
Mötley crüe shall never EVER be forgotten!
My loved 80s😍😍
Todos são ótimos quem mera abrir um bar com o som de Cinderela pintar frampton Garth journey e muitos outros pena que falta grana
Call it what you want,.... I love it all. My vehicle is permanently tuned to Hair Nation on satellite radio
Great to see you guys didn't forget Dokken, they were a very underrated hair band back in the 80s
Only an honorable mention for skid row... get real
Shouldn't even be there. They were much closer to Guns n Roses than hair metal bands. And GNR was never considered a hair metal band.
@@ialeixo84 Gun N Roses is also considered a hair metal band just because members wore long hair.
Abby so Slayer was a hair metal band too because they had long hair? Ok
@@Hellenicheavymetal I don't know this band, sorry.
They weren't really hair/glam metal.
Dokken!!! You made my faith in your videos reborn again!!!!! ROKKEN with DOKKEN!!!!!!
This one is top shelf on my Playlist...
Awesome 80s hairstyles! 🤪
Yes, nailed it, Mötley F-ing Crüe!
Boy, what awesome times!! What awesome memories. It just makes me remember such a magical time!!
Hello Linda,how are you doing?
I’m so grateful for my parents brining me up on these bands, just a shame I never got to see them in their prime :(
Bon Jovi is like the more friendly hair metal. But anyways, Their music is cool and amazing!
Just like Deff Leppard those two were the more friendly versions of hair metal with Bon Jovi slightly more than Def Leppard but those two bands were mostly beloved by women.
Clicked on this video just to see if Motley Crue was number 1........Now I can leave happy
Same here 😂😂 Mötley Crüe baby
Same, Mötley all the way baby
I love Mötley so much. Sadly, they're not gonna be performing again after their tour is done. But hopefully they'll get inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame soon. Then that will make my day.
For once I actually agree with all the names on this list. I do feel, however, that Bon Jovi should at least be at #2. I mean, have you ever met a person who doesn't know every word of Livin' on a Prayer?
Braedyn Kidd
That song is more of a vocal song and it lacks that guitar vibe, bite and style that bands like Crue, Ratt and Dokken were soo noticed for
Braedyn Kidd And they are THE best live band ever!!
You must be from Wisconsin?
Although I knew who would be No.1 , a shiver still ran through my spine when No.1 was announced
Thank you so much for putting Hanoi Rocks in this list by far the most underrated band in the world
God I miss the 80s.....Today's music is just crap
Today’s music has no meaning
It is I loved Bon Jovi and GNR and kiss were great
I miss the 1980s as well
I wasn't even around in the 80s' but this music is brilliant, #ClassicRock
I was born in 2000 and I wish I was born when metal ruled the world
I would kill to be 16 again and to see Poison in their prime in concert
they are still pretty darn good. Bret still has his voice
Motley Crue #1 Damn Straight, Primal Scream says it all!!!!!!
This is Legendary 💯♥️
