Just an FYI, you can place the sticks in the ground and then place rocks around it, and THEN chop it down. It makes it good for building and not knocking over the sticks while building. Also, I typically put spikes behind my wall and knock them thru so when enemies attack the wall they get hurt.
Thanks for the tip that they work when placed behind.
Just be cautious when putting the sticks behind the wall and making the spikes; sometimes a cannibal could clip through your wall because the spike is behind your wall, therefore the enemy is technically getting attacked behind the wall, thus they can maybe clip through the barrier
Hello everyone, it is a nice defense but if you don't want to spend too many hours with it and want 100% defense just find a bay and after the stream mouth where the open water begins but the water is still low build your base on piles. That's it. All enemies are considering it as the sea so they are unable to attack it. They will stop on the shore and watch your base. Water and food is also provided by the stream one short zipline is enough to jump there. 🙂
I built a castle directly over a river. The fence gates we got made the gatehouse possible and the river is just my safe source of water and fish that also kinda collects logs. The spikes log defences are so cool

Love your tips. Game is fun and not my normal game style but it's really satisfying.
I built my base in a super hostile area and so far the best thing iv come up with is to have a opening in the wall with alternating spike traps . so say that cool porque pine thing you built , then a gap then another spike block , then next layer alternate the gaps , do at least 3 layers , 5 preferably . mix traps in the "open" gaps . if the whole base is walled off ( in my case is have a box wall around my base ) with a missing section for the traps , as soon as anything trigers on me it trys to path through the traps insted of busting down the wall , this kills it 98 % of the time . I only use zip lines to get in and out of the base
Also this is by far the best system iv found for dealing with the long string rolling blob thing . That bugger cheats and glitches right through walls and wall spike miss him offten for some reason , so if you just run around your traps opeining he rolls around and kills himself .

Nothing says fear me like a bloody head on a spike. I use a multi-tiered defense around my base. Got a defensive wall around my base, then a line of stick fences with spikes, then a line of traps, another line of stick fences and spikes and finally about a hundred severed heads at the edge of the forest. Haven't had much of an issue in a while, other than having to build a ton of bone holders lol.
That's a lot.
In my friend group, I'm the main defensive builder. I assure you, we can put camp up absolutely everywhere.
Simple approach, ball off in however big a wall you need to be fully inclosed in, leave a hole in said wall, extend the entrance in length and place all kinds of traps in there.
2 rows of bonemaker and stoneclap, 2-4 spin traps and no amount of enemies on hard difficulty ever touch us. Most the time we look over and realize another group got demolished. And yup, 3-4 spin traps will make even Double's unable to rush through.

Dang that's a lot of build.
I noticed the enemy paths through certain areas, so helps to focus defense there.
The bone makers are good for setting baby mutants on fire.
Also you can set the rocks before cutting the sticks, helps to not knock them over.
You could also just walk knee-deep in the ocean and just build there.
No need for defensive walls or spikes because you are the only one that can go into the salt water.
Virginia and Kelvin will NOT go in the saltwater either so they are not as safe.
I have a nice base in the bay with the radio on the south shore and no zombie has ever tried to get to it.

I have 2 bases and the main base is literally on the other side of that river on the same beach.
You get cannibal patrols each day but it's a good spot.
Have real trouble placing sticks for a defensive wall. My problem is the 'fence' markers, I just want the circle to place the stick not the dotted line forcing you to place a stick where you don't want it. Is there a way to switch off the 'fence' option? Thanks
Why no love for the stick fence. You can build it higher than the logs by stacking the sticks. You can then layer the spikes at each stick level. So mine has 3 layers of spikes. Bottom middle and top. You can reinforce it with stones, at each level. So for example your top stick layer also has stones. And finally, the number one best part. You can shoot through it. Nobody ever gets through it.

I find myself at some...cultivated land, and found a metal whapping stick, but it seems to not cause stun. And even on nornal mode, theyre steamrolling through my health bar in 3-4 hits with no armor

Or you can just skip the wall bit and only have ramps with hedgehogs on them. I've done this in my base and it regularly murders everything that tries to attack it. I sometimes come out after hearing a bunch of noises to find that 8-10 mutants have killed themselves against my wall of spikes.
you can just simply push sticks over through the wall. This leaves them spiked and they can still be reinforced by rocks
For making content I'd recommend getting console commands. Makes things alot easier

If you build on the enemy camps your spawn points become your base, ive been taking over all of the enemy camps and trapping the trails
the baby mutant get through this spike wall, is there anyway to get rid of the baby, any trap for them?

I build a dock on the ocean with a house at the end of it the monsters won’t go in the water to get to you.
Do the Cannibals attack you when you build on these 2 islands at the south-eastern side of the map? The place looks pretty isolated by huge cliffs and the ocean but the enemies usually spawn on your location. But its weird they do not go or “spawn” on you when you are high in the mountains. I wonder if the same thing goes for this island you are building on.
Yep they still spawn there but it's much rarer
Pro tip; it doesn’t matter where you build, enemies spawn at the same rate, which increases daily.

@@luckypoison8708 there are multiple points where cannibals have increased spawn rate, for example paths, villages, lakes and rivers. They do increase daily but your location does change the overall spawn rates.
The best defense is to not have a base at all. Stay light, keep moving! A tarp and a stick to save/sleep, easy peasy.
Oh? You built /there/ on the island? I uh... kinda fortified the entire island by bottlenecking the land bridge haha. Turns out, they don't spawn behind you on the island, they only come from the beach in front of the land bridge. Made a sweet defensive wall with a rampart and two towers with an overhang, machicolations, and a zipline that goes up the mountain on the other side for an easy hangglider location to bring you anywhere on the island. And now, since cannibals dont spawn on the island itself, I'm gonna populate it with a little town of cabins!
So how durable is a wall like that?
Theres also the deadfall trap. Place a stick on the ground and then place a log on it and when entities will come the log will fall on them.

They need to add manual placing for sticks and other items
even playing on hard, in a team the cannibals are not that "scary" nor do they really win against a few of us...found the spike logs to be adaquate...occassionally have had one spawn inside the defensive gate....and cat/dog can get in, but with rifle it is not an issue.
So I’m building a walkway along the wall with the stick teeth, let’s us shoot arrows from above while they run around trying to get in.
So the bigger the base the more enemies, didnt know that lol, day 2 axe and huge base a lot of enemies, but free bone armor ey
I'd say build directly near or on the roads for more tower defense fun. Otherwise it will get very boring on your island fortress, no?

The main problem with these glitch through defenses is maintaining them. Trying to replace broken pieces can be a nightmare if not next to impossible to put back together again.
A multi layered wall of spikes placed on ramps IS usually overkill for most playthroughs and difficulty settings. Simply placing a single row of stick spikes behind a log stake wall is not perfect coverage but is good enough most of the time (cannibals and mutants really have no sense of self-preservation against spikes) and you can repair them from your side of the wall.
Not too bad you can fix them by running across the top of the wall 🙂
@@TotalXclipse Sooner or later a couple of those palisade logs will get knocked out. If it's in a place that intersects with the white alignment line, good luck.
@@murph1414 I've just built a whole fort like this, and though it can be finicky replacing the lost palisade you don't need to tear a whole section down.
@@TotalXclipse It's one of the best looking defenses I've seen so far. I'm not sure the palisades are working as intended at this point. The spikes are the player's best deterrent at this time for sure.
Some tweaking to the building function will go a long way in helping people create some nice builds. And maintain them.
Stairs need to be one of the first things they address. They can be an unnecessary PITA.
how are you placing the sticks so close to one another?
It works easier on the planks, but if you're having problems you can place a stick and knock it down - the next stick you place will then not require you to snap it in line 🙂

i put a defensive spike, 3 rocks around and... a log on top of the spike! end! maybe i´ll make an tutorial to explain how but its 100% more cheap and safe.
