Wonderful! Thanks for the upload, I want to hear the entire performance. For my money, Taddei was the supreme Italian baritone of the 1950s and into the '60s. For that matter he was great at his belated Met debut when he was over 70!
Yes, a legendary singer with a huge voice; but, when Verdi writes "dolcissimo", it has to be sung "dolcissimo", it's to say very, very soft, sweet, mild... and it's not the case here.
Here we have a perfect example of singing dolcissimo rendered by not merely a huge voce, but also a wonderful artist and a true belcanto master. I'm wondering what your definition of dolcissimo is and why you find that lacking here?
Che tecnica! Che bel canto...Grande Taddei.
Un'altra grave perdita. Rolando Panerai. Un altro grande artista che ci lascia...
Great post: beautiful singing, excellent notes, and the music. Can't ask for more than that. Thank you.
Your detailed commentary is much appreciated. The time you devoted to it is obvious. THANK YOU. The singing is splendid.

Great, but I prefer Bastianini!
E che c'entra?
I prefer Panerai
Concordo pienamente con lei, Ettore era superiore.
