Great job, I just turned 60. Love the west. What you just produced, brought back my youth playing shoot em up in the woods! God Bless
david nieve Thank you so much, that means so much! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Happy Birthday to you

Happy 61st Birthday. And most folks call that war, not playing in the woods. 😎
It's really nice to see these short films ( although on a thou on a small budget) actually have a real story. Like a beginning middle and an end. Unlike so many other short films that just leave you hanging about what just happened. love this guy
rich berry Thank you my friend, means a lot!
the gun shots were amazing. loved how you could see the force when they were shot knocking them over
Thank you!
Masterpiece, no cheesy dialogue, no BS, no unnecessary script containing bravado and macho BS, the visual speaks for itself
Amen man, thank you so much!
Makes the best of what's available and tells a fairly compelling story. Natural locations and atmosphere a plenty. Worth the time.
MrBnetV That was our goal! thank you very much!
@@BlaisUnlimited Mission accomplished, brother. Forest western, desert western. Nature is the best production designer. Where you filmed looks like something out of Last of the Mohicans.
Thank you my friend, we did the best with what we had. Have to utilize what you have and make it work!
GREAT SHOT of a modern steel 55 gallon drum in the opening shot.
Well done guys ! Derringer in the hat was a killer surprise (no pun intended).
Thank you very much!!
Loved that chase and the music
Thank you so much!!
American Flag with 50 stars 32 seconds in to the movie...And a PEACOCK?
Maybe a plug for NBC_Universal?
don t forget the 55 gal steel drum @ .41 .....which patent was not delivered but 33 years later
They both have fresh clipped haircuts.
plastic bucket in the corner when he first enters the barn.
Did you notice the pressed fifty gallon steel barrel they apparently had back in the 1800's?
How can you not like this? I loved it; the music, the acting, the story, that exciting chase through the woods, felt like I was there. Very surprised you shot this on a low budget, well done and thank you for posting this, really great film.
Thank you so much for watching! We did our best with what we had to tell an interesting and fun story, I’m glad you enjoyed. Thank you again!
@@BlaisUnlimited I know nothing about the technicalities of acting, directing, gun shots (I'm in England, so unless you're a gangster or part of the hunting set, we don't have firearms)and all the other parts of film making, but I know what I like in a movie. I want to laugh, cry, be scared and be entertained, so big thumbs up. Also the scenery was stunning and the very end was just like a beautiful grotto, so the violence was even more unexpected.
@@peachypie8018 Yes! And that’s ultimately what counts! All the details of plot and the technicalities of filmmaking should serve the story and make the audience feel engaging and interesting things. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!
@@BlaisUnlimited So Therese where to little information to make it good. The script was not finished. To much time was put on the chase. More time and effekt should been placed on backstory. The charachters where like emot pages. Not good.
Nature, again and again, main strength of western. Nice final gimmick and gun shot sound.
Jean-Pierre Ouvrard very true! Thank your for watching and sharing your thought
Solid man, solid.
New sub, you have some great films!! Bravo!
Thank you very much!!
Great vid hands down one of the best short films I’ve ever watched keep it up.
Clayton Reimer Thank you very much, thanks for watching :)
I’ve only just discovered this plethora of Western Short movies on CZcams, grateful and deserved applause to all concerned in making them….
( just a tiny thing that stood out in this particular one ) I’m not criticising by the way ( see my first statement )
But just after the caption 1872 in the barn scene there was a pretty modern bike wheel….
( more modern than 1872,
I mean )
Another excellent film from JB. 👍🏻
Why thank you! 🤠
Well done- first off, the Cinematography/Locations/Photography was beautiful - usually in Westerns it's a bullet fest in the wide open, or in a Saloon, House, etc- this was a run-and-gun in the Woods, dodging behind trees, plenty of misses and wild shots- added to the realism, along with both men dying - - - - when the Marshall gave that 2nd guy a badge, then hid his, I was smirking- sucker gonna get killed "That's why they call him Lawful"
Brian Smith Thank you very much!
Very well done! 0:29 Even the "Grand Union Flag (1872)". WELL DONE!
Bunk Man Thank you! Great eye, most people assume it’s a modern flag :)
Beautiful scenery!
Thank you!!
That was awesome! Great job!
I randomly found this video and really enjoyed it. I see alot of criticism in the comments and agree I saw some things that didn't fit but, can't we just enjoy it for what it is? A very well done amateur film. You did an excellent job telling the story without a need for verbal explanation. I love how the Marshal set up the "Sheriff" to protect himself. I subbed.
Chupacabra Carter Really appreciate your perspective! Means a lot that you enjoyed it and took the time to comment. Thank you for watching!

@@BlaisUnlimited You're very welcome and thank you also
Great Job. I enjoyed it very much
I half expected the Marshall to wake up and pull his badge out of his pocket, with the bullet stuck in it. Kinda glad you didn't use that old cliche.
9:11 I remember the 1872 vibram boot soles well, they were cut from rubberized rawhide.
- As for the video: I liked it.
there was actually quite alot of modern items shown especially around the farm and in the barn. @0:25 you have a stamped steel gate, and a 50 star flag.
One of the best running gun battle scenes I've seen in a while. Good ending, too. Sometimes, you don't get away.
Thank you very much! Thanks for commenting, glad you liked it
I love this!
One of the best short westerns I've seen. Thank you for making this. Everything was great including the acting.
Thank you very much!
Storm trooper best wésterns ? You dont help them if you dont tell them the truth
Actually kinda surprised no one commented much on the chase. it was well done and different than anything I think I have ever seen. Seemed fairly realistic actually.
Thank you for noticing!
Club Members I thought the chase was done well. Seemed realistic.
The chase was good. Forest chases are often poorly filmed. Maybe keeping proper orientation in forest scenes is difficult. This one at least made sense!
@@BlaisUnlimited The chase was kinda nonsense. If I have a rifle and am being chased by someone with a handgun I just make a stand using tree or a ditch and let the chaser come close
@@Janet_Yellens_Liquidity Exactly! You don't chase a man with a rifle in an infinite cover location. Especially while ignoring all of that cover while you're chasing him.
Whoever made this is probably the most respectful human in the CZcams comment section, that was a well done chase, the gunshots were good, not exactly realistic, but great!
John Todd McAllaster Thank you very much for commenting. Wanted to make a fun, enjoyable chase sequence! Appreciate your thoughts :)
@@BlaisUnlimited Thank you! Is that a 36 or 50 star flag and is that a Winchester 1866 or 1873? Also, the only 2 problems I see are the oil drum and colt single action army, I would have used a navy, I like that opening music, and surprisingly good film quality for what? 2 years, didn't know anybody could pull that off! Good film quality, scenery, and action! 8/10.
John Todd McAllaster It’s a 37 star flag, rifle is a 1866! Really appreciate your thoughts!
Well done. Thanks.
This was awesome! Keep making short Western films like this; maybe even a trilogy. I was so surprised on the filming talent and the acting talent. Maybe you guys will get noticed by a film making company and make some movies you can sell. I would rate all your movies five star. Awesome job!

Thank you so much! Thanks for the comment
Man with a rifle, cover, distance, and the high ground running from someone with a pistol. Sigh
Actually, someone with two pistols and a derringer in the hat.
Not sure why when he had a gun in his hat he made it obvious he could’ve shot him without him even seeing the gun in his hat and lived another day
The Marshal was flanking him
First may I say "Welcome to the club of being an Independent film-maker". Sometimes we have no money for a budget but we do the best we can. Good film, well written, good shots of location and good acting by Jason Blais, Mark Howland and Nicholas Blais. I done 3 complete movies with little or no money, so I understand what you went through. Also, good directing by Johnathan Blais, it looked like you used your brothers for actors.... well, they did a great job.
Keep going and I hope to see more movies from you. Thanks
Joey Garza Thanks for a thoughtful comment! Really appreciate it, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!
Beautiful scenery.
Thank you for watching!
Nice short!
Good little film. With an actual budget, slightly more experienced actors and a hair more attention to detail, I could see you making some truly excellent pieces. The chase scene in particular was masterfully done, though I'll call the Marshal a fool for bringing handguns to fight a rifleman. On the visual editing side, the gunshots were phenomenal. I would've thought you were using actual black powder blanks if I weren't personally familiar with powder.
Keep up the good work!
Loremaster Yn'Taris Comments like this make it all worth it, we really appreciate you taking the time to comment! We definitely had a vision for a certain type of chase scene that we wanted to see in a short, and the gunshots took their fair share of time in post. @@BlaisUnlimited Welcome. Don't pay any attention to naysayers. Making movies isn't easy - and I speak from experience. You guys did a great job with it and I encourage you to keep that story going. What happens next to the fugitive? Just thinkin'...
Career Steer thank you so much for the words of encouragement! Making films on basically zero budget is a tough assignment to be sure. Love your sequel idea! We have some ideas brewing for our next short 😁

great show, keep up with the good work
emanuel mihai thank you my friend!
The Marshal and the Sheriff should have been packing rifles, and the date should have been 1873 for the weapons used. Great film!!
If He had a horse, the rifle would have been on it, I'm just wondering why the Marshall didn't have 2 revolvers
It looked the sherrif died over a pretty good amount of gold.
Well done. A true American story of guns, guns, and more guns. MY 10 minutes were well spent.
Thank you for watching
very exciting short film, excellent, and ironic
Thank you very much!!
Not bad at all! I hate people who sit on their butt and mouth off about what they DON'T like. I'll tell you what I liked. First of all, the shots didn't sound like cap guns like so many CZcams vids. You didn't have the guys take a whiz in the stream. The guy looked like he was going to crap his pants as he was reloading. How often do you see that or even see a six shooter reloaded? Not a happy ending but a REAL ending! Keep up the good work!
James Rickard Thank you so much for the feedback, and taking the time to comment! Really appreciate it!
Jim- Someone has to. And I suspect the makers of these films appreciate the input. Ya cant go through life with blinders on, if ya wanna improve your product.
so at 7:46, why the pause
gunshots as audio have some good mid-bass TR, in my set up,
in the beginning- how many stars on that flag?
great photography, color
William Tomkiel thanks for watching! Flag has 37 stars!
I liked it, as it was original and gritty. Great job!
tembofly thank you so much!
This was an ok short. Keep an eye on the details that add to the realistic feel. A couple examples would be the steel 55 gal drum in the shed or how clean and clean shaven the actors were.
Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching!
Good. Better than anything put out by big budget Hollywood lately. One criticism, and it's really minor, is that the volume of smoke is too small and the wrong color. Watch some shooting black powder videos to see.
“1872 Colorado Territories”. Where did all three characters acquire their firearms? The marshal and bounty hunter both carried Colt 1873 Single Action Army revolvers, while “Lawful” was armed with an 1873 Winchester.
Keen observation. The steel drum, rubber feed bucket, bicycle wheel and plastic pipe stem jumped out at me. Still entertaining and a hell of a lot better than I'll ever do.
Never mind the plastic bucket!
@@clineproffit9676 I am thinking Doc Brown hauled it there from 1985.
It did keep my attention though.
Great film 👍🏻
First time to see peacocks in a western film.Feel great.
You made a great story here!
The ominous marshal in the doorway, the running gunfight through the woods, the suspense of re-loading, the really impressive blood spray scenes (omg! good job!)...
I liked that all 3 characters were corrupt in their own different ways, so (being a western!) I was waiting for them each to get their just desserts, and I was not disappointed. The marshal was the worst of the whole bunch, and very creepy indeed., so I cheered his demise :)
I appreciated how well you conveyed the story and the characters with such focus-- nicely economical storytelling, letting the audience work a little bit to catch all the clues. This added to my enjoyment!
Some commenters are saying the characters looked too young, but I think most kids left home really young back then-- and could end up in a lot of trouble really young, too. I had no problem with suspension of disbelief myself. So many grim backstories possible! (Plus, good job working with the people you have, and getting the job done with the resources at your command. The best art is the thing that actually gets DONE.)
Looking forward to your next one!
Liz Thank you so much for watching and for your thoughts. The best are really is the stuff that gets done! Really appreciate your attention to detail as well. I enjoyed reading your comment, it motivates me to get back out there and do it all again very soon!
I have what I call "age cred" because declaring "I'm old" lacks any sort of range restriction and I'm not, ya know, THAT old. I have four adult children. All of that is to say that I have seen plenty of artistic endeavors and I'm impressed with this film. I think you will like my thought at its conclusion. (Sigh), I had a colon and was ready to quote myself but my exact words didn't fully explain. (Open personality here, stream of consciousness communication serves me well, editing isn't wrong but FEELS dishonest, apologies). My thought was that this situation, with all participants/witnesses to an armed conflict being mortally wounded has happened over and over and over throughout time. With the classic literature conflicts, (man vs. nature, man vs. man, man vs. himself, heh heh, and I am old enough to know that "man" is not a bad word), in mind I applaud you on your deft ability to take what seemed to be merely the setting of the story into its enduring role as the last character, er, standing, so to speak AFTER the man vs. man outcome. Nature was seamlessly introduced, (in my opinion and I have not re-watched anything), with that glorious moment taken to observe that picturesque, ambient waterfall. Nice job with the ending.
Just thought I would mention that the time was running out on a college assignment in English. We were to describe a location. I chose my grandparents house, which was actually not theirs, the second floor was a jail. My grandfather was the last jailer in MATADOR*, Texas. (Edited because my mom said, "Not in Texas! There are jailers now!", but there was further information gathered by someone else, a small town newspaper journalist maybe, and he was the last, I'm tellin' ya, but not tellin' my octogenarian mom, Texas jailer who lived in a literal jailhouse). My purpose in saying this is your "...and a fast approaching deadline..." condition. Time was running out for me too. My paper began with the sound of the old linoleum on the floor and wound around describing the building and through the tall iron, (I think), mint green painted door with the half circle barred area for communication and ended in the jail area which was often empty because of the low population of that county. That freshman year paper was published in two different Texas towns in their newspapers. One was the featured article New Year's Day front page. Because I was finishing on the day, when I read it even I was struck by the last line. I was describing a big room with iron everywhere in north Texas where they get snow, which is very rare in my part of Texas. But considering the subject matter, (my little grandmother was tied up twice when men escaped, but their criminality was of the Mayberry, North Carolina variety, so the escapes were all very cordial), I felt a... hahaa, chill when I read the last combination of words: "It was cold."
So, yay, fast approaching deadlines!
* The jailhouse of my youth is now a museum and can be found on the internet. I have never even been there. It would be SO COOL if my essay was in there. Mom said that the town and the museum may be gone due to the size of Matador. I remember that the town square was surrounded by streets that were wife enough for horse drawn carriages to drive on both sides and park too.
Maybe I have shared something that will inspire a set, a location, a storyline, a character. My grandfather was lauded as the last old school jailer, the story exceeded Matador. The jail got a plague 👈 as a historical landmark.
• Now about the sentence just before this one, there is no possibility that I am claiming that a "plague" beset the jailhouse and yet Autocorrect, (capitalization of Autocorrect is intentional because to me Autocorrect is likely the first case of modern tech related demonic entity inhabitation 😠 🤭), changed "plaque", a commemorative item, to "plague".
Hmmm... perhaps one could sumerise this comment into a shorter version. I didn't have time to read it all.

I liked the tension wrought by silence.
Nice, but the buildings wouldn’t have had a 150 year old patina when they would have been fairly new
It's a time to start hunting in a new action. Fantastic movie
Mahmmod Emran Thank you!
One way to spot a student film is every cast member is 22 yrs old. I think the newest way to spot them is obvious and unwarranted drone shots. When doing Westerns pay attention to firearm details. Functional auto ejecting was a ways off in the Americas. Interesting coincidence in the same year 1872 the Swiss military adopted a self ejecting revolver so maybe a pass on the sound effect. The Winchester rifle didn't get a steel body until 1873. Probably not in the hands of outlaws for some time later. Asked a prop guy on a micro western why he picked the pistols he did for the main character. His answer was because they looked cool. They were period acceptable but the hero was a two gun shooter and one was a volcanic arms lever action. Impossible to operate accurately with one hand. The lack of a treated or sepia tone is a welcomed change. I Think it works fine without horses. Overall nicely done. Keep making movies.
J Fratis I really appreciate your attention to detail. Thanks for watching and commenting
1:08 the year is 1872, these marvelous firearms haven't been manufactured yet until the following year.

Set in 1872 and using Colt Single actions and a Winchester 1873 not produced until 1873. No worries, Hollywood's been doing the same for years. :-)
That is not an 1873 Winchester, it is an 1866.
A modern barrel in the shack or steel drum
At least the Marshal reloaded, manh westerns the 45s could shot 45 times before needing to be reloaded. ah hollywood.

Besides the creators of this film would not care about making movies they would be trying to survive in hostile Leftist Hell holes like Venezuela. So who cares what morissette would like?
