they gotta get some fresh air and stretch their legs every so often to stay in shape afterall. seeing these engines in running order is a wonderful sight.
I wonder if the cobblestones set a little flatter each year. Some of those machines are real monsters! Thank you for sharing this, John. You're building a nice archive where we can look at the machines from year to year. I wonder how many of these you've had a hand in preserving.

what all the same Europeans are disciplined! Not a single traffic accident, everyone respects each other! we would certainly have a fight in such narrow places!
wern't they called traction engines and i'm from briz,oz oceania but was born in mildura, vic,oz oceania and a lot of machinery was used were called traction engines went on display across the road from the mildura arts center and museum along with a 3 stage irrigation engine which was built by the chaffee bros and was incidently put back into service, oh well just interesting history so yeah thanks anyway for uploading.
Personally, I think Trevor, Isobella, Elizabeth, George, and Buster from "Thomas and Friends" wouldn't feel out of place at a Steam Gala. Although due to his nasty personality, I highly doubt George would be invited to participate. Also, when the parade happens, I can practically hear Trevor saying to Buster beforehand "Alright, young'un, keep your funnel on straight. No need to be nervous." Buster: "Nervous, Trevor? I'm so excited! (slightly relieved) Although we won't have to deal with a major headache aka my cousin George." Isobella(in agreement): "I couldn't be more in agreement with both of you. He's such a pain in the neck!" Elizabeth(confirming): "No kidding!" When the traction engine, steam roller, and two steam lorries roll down the the street and see the photographers, Isobella and Elizabeth whisper to the boys "Strike a pose, fellas! There's the "paparazzi"." Trevor and Buster smile for the cameras but the girls decide to get silly and "pose". Trevor, Buster, Fiery Elias (Trevor's "brother") and their drivers bite their tongues to prevent themselves from laughing over Izzy and Lizzy's antics. (Headcanon time: Because Isobella and Elizabeth are cousins, they have a habit of calling each other by their nicknames of Izzy(for Isobella, given to her by Elizabeth) and Lizzy(for Elizabeth, given by Isobella).)
@@Brian3989 Ah! Makes sense now. Thx. I did think its decorative style looked a bit like one of the old-school merry-go-rounds or similar, but I just thought it was period similarity. I am from NZ and in my early 70's, never saw one of these marvelous engines until I toured Britain in 1996. I went to a Heavy Horse day near Cambridge and there was a big stationary engine running. I was fascinated by how they kept a flat drive belt straight while running between the engine and what it was driving, using smooth flat wheels.
I dont really know how best to describe it, but there is something pleasing about the sounds and smells of a running steam engine.
With all those steam rollers, this place must have the smoothest road surfaces in the country. 🙂
Love seeing all these fine old machines out playing around!

On a railway programme I was watching with my grandfather.
Am I correct?
Bei uns würden sich 300 Leute auf der Fahrbahn festkleben !!!!
02:40 What a beautifully presented machine. I'm guessing it is a stationary engine?
That was a showmans engine, ready to take the fair around the area and provide power for lights.
