Our final stop in Serbia takes us to the historical city of Niš! This city is considered to be the gastronomical heart of Serbia... so of course we had to try some of the city's delicious food at Pekara Anton.
We also learn about some of the city's darker past during the Ottoman times and more recently the 2 World Wars.

About the Skull tower...There was serbian First uprise against hars turkish rule. Army of serbian rebels that were under the comand of Stevan Sindjelic, one of many comanders, decidet to put Niš fortress under the siege because it was on the strategic place. But since they didnt have siege equipment siege vent on for days. In the mean time turks send big army as a reinforcement. Serbians found themself surrounded and outnumbered. After heavy fighting seing that all is lost instead to negotiate or surender serbs decided to fight to the death for freedom. In last moments of battle with turks storming the last serbian positions Stevan Sindjelic decided to take as much enemy soldiers as he can by shooting his pistol into gunpowder storage and by that killing him and few remainig serbians and hundreds of tursks. They choose freedom by death rather than slavery. Turkish commanders were so outraged by this mowe even they have won, but with overwelming looses, that they ordered building the Skull tower as a warning how any rebels against their rule will end up. But building this tower had oposite effect. So after some time they decided to remowe it. Relatives came to take skulls of their loved ones so they can have proper funeral. Skull tower was suppost to strike fear as a reminder what happens to those who oppose turkish rule but instead became simbol that Freedom does not have a price.

Very good video. Will there be another episode in Niš:)?
You must try the famous Niš barbecue (kafana Mrak) and other specialties of Niš cuisine (kafane Dagi plus, Nišlijska mehana, Kod Brke:). And of course another local and most important Niš beer (Niško pivo🍺:).
What is most important historically for Nis that it is the hometown of Emperor Constantine the Great.
The founder of Constantinople and one of the greatest Roman emperors. Next to the Nišava river, you have a beautiful monument dedicated to him and the Edict of Milan.

@AshAndDan. One important detail you forgot to mention about Nis. The Latin name for the city is Naissus, and it is the birthplace of Roman Emperor Constantine. That dude was responsible for legalizing Christianity and ending prosecution of Christians throughout empire in 313. He is also the founder of modern day Istanbul, Turkey. I mean if it wasn't for him, who knows, maybe all of us would be pagans and history and the maps of Europe would look totally different.

Thanks for a good video again. Bubanj in Nis there is a park for the victims who were kill by the Nazis. There is also Jasenovac in Croatia where Serbs, Gypsies and Jews were killed when the Croats were on the side of the Nazis. You missed medijana, Roman istoria, check up on the internet in Nis you have also available via militares roman road, in fact where half of Roman emperors were born in today's serbia there are under the ground to 90% not only the Romans but everything else. Why excavations are not done I don't know my thoughts but men. And come remember that Celts first built Beograd fortres before Romans.. Constantine the Great (Constantinople) actually believe that he brought Christianity to Europe, he was born in Nis.
