He lives!!!
Cypher system is my go to system now. Great books for all kind of ideas.
I've only played a couple Numenera sessions, but I'd really like to play some Claim the Skies (the Superhero setting)... I'm just having no luck getting my friends to do it :D
Cypher System is my favorite game system, so far!
I do love the way Cypher System handles player agency in the world. The only reason I don't use it now is because I don't like NPC vs. NPC interaction. Otherwise, it's an amazing system.
Sound unnecessary complicated. Simply having static values to your own rolls give the player more control of the situation and ability to evaluate the threat.
Edit. Completely lost me with the "the DM does not roll". Random responses from both players and dm are intrinsic to the spirit of rpg. That is not Tabletop.
Maybe not to you.
Iirc the thought behind "All the rolls are done by the players" is that they are the ones doing things instead of things being done to them. In addition to allowing the players to say "I've got something that makes it easier to dodge/stand my ground/etc." and lowering the DC with that instead of the DM saying "That's a hit, you take x points of y damage." with no input from the players.
The GM can affect the world through GM Intrusions that give the players a resource in exchange for the GM to make something interesting happen. It is very freeing in that the GM can focus solely on the story rather than get lost in notes trying to figure out what stats your monster has. It's a very narrative system.
Proving you haven't the slightest clue what you're talking about.
