if ur third vs video comes out in the next few years is the third video gonna be forever vs rises vs the batman 3
Hey Eric. What villains would you love to see in The Batman 2? And who do you think should play them?
I don't mind having progressive messaging in superhero movies, tv shows, video games or comics, just make sure still focus on making sure the superhero characters are saving lives and protecting people from evil. Also, make the sure the stories are good with well-developed characters, great writing, great action scenes, great CGI and practical effects, great cinematography and a well written climax.
This video demonstrates how to and how not to write a strong female superhero. "How to Write a Strong Female Character...who isn't toxic and annoying" czcams.com/video/ARgT2XmHN2E/video.html
@@MrLlama-sz3br I don't know. It depends what the villains and story are in the third movie.

@@Antonio33880 that is so weird because I was literally just thinking about unbreakable, glass, and split like 10 minutes ago. I know that’s strange, but it’s such a coincidence
@@Antonio33880 Yeah I do. I also mentioned after that that I changed my mind and wasn't going to do it as Universal copyright claimed my trailer review for Glass aswell as my Jurassic World 2 videos.
So I decided against it because I undoubtedly would have been given copyright claims if I made that video.

One thing to note in Matt reeves' batman movie is catwoman isn't really a villain. She's trying to help her friend and ends up helping batman. She's more of an anti hero
yep
True
Handled her well it was a blend of the memories I have of Catwoman even from when I was a kid.
@Diddy Biggy true
She is an anti hero in the books as well as ally to batman but also can be selfish at times and a villain at times.

The Batman: Most style

The reason Riddler flooded the city was because something that was established throughout the movie was he wanted attention. He didn’t actually really care about the orphanage, he just wanted attention. For example all the info he had on the politician’s if he really cared he would’ve given the evidence to the authorities rather than doing it himself. And he thought he would never be forgotten for flooding the city but that’s changed when Batman says he will be forgotten and Gotham will rebuild.
“Fanatic narcissism, egocentrism, and megalomania, crossed with severe obsessive compulsion.”
- Batman’s synopsis of Edward Nigma
He's basically this universes anarchy
One word: renewal
Actually in Batman Begins he does change his voice a lot depending on who he’s talking to. Like when he talks to Rachel in the cave, he uses a soft spoken almost Kevin Conroy voice. Then with Flass, he uses a full growl monster voice, and in other interactions it’s a mix of both.
I think Pattinson has the Best Batman voice.
Batfleck's was good but it was modulated.
Bale tried to hard, sounded like he had a bad cold!
@@cabellero1120 Bale was great in Batman Begins. No one will change my mind
@@Johnnysmithy24 This. Also the video game for it his Batman voice was incredible, no growling. It sounded like Kevin Conroy or Val Kilmer but Bale. It's the directors fault he sounds the way he did they made him sound like that. His actual Bat voice was already there they made him change it.
@@lethalassassin1754 Absolutely agree
@@cabellero1120 I agree with you, but Batfleck was the best although as you mentioned he used a modulator! But Bale in Batman Begins is the best voice in any live action movie for me! Noland messed it up in the other two movies, he actually edited in production and it was a bad edit for sure!

@@EricCarter12 "Gotham loves a comeback story"
Personally I heavily disagree with the whole "Batman's parents are secretly corrupt or flawed individuals who were killed for that reason rather than simply bad luck." I always liked the fact that Bruce's parents were legitimately good people who were sadly gunned down by one of the people they were trying to help. What's more the fact it wasn't planned but a simple random accident also helps explain Bruce's motivation.
He wants to ensure no one ever goes through what he did, namely a completely random, unplanned mugging. Having his parents be corrupt people killed by some person for that exact reason is obviously not something other people can relate to and obviously not something that happens on a regular basis.
but... his parents weren't?
His parents weren’t corrupt. Just like what Alfred said, his father had a moment of weakness and asked falcone to kill the guy that had dirt on him. Sure what his father did was messed up but still was a good man trying to do good. It’s just trying to say that Thomas Wayne wasn’t perfect and made mistakes.
@@channingbloom7125 Not exactly true. Thomas told Falcone to tell the reporter to back off but Falcone did the opposite & killed the dude. Thomas was furious that he threatened to go to the authorities & the rest is history.

Yeah that’s right. Completely forgot about that
@@vikrambansal1416 I was making a more general statement as this whole The Waynes were secretly evil has come up on more than one occasion most notably the Telltale Game series and more than a few people have said they prefer the idea.
It's always Batman films that steer films back in the right direction. Each one came out in a time we needed them the most.
Joker and The Batman are the saving graces of DC.
@@kuhanblock9380 That's definitely true, but Joker is way better movie in my opinion it's a masterpiece
I didn't really get the hype over Joker, seemed too Oscar baity for my taste
Something I really hope in Matt Reeves' The Batman movie is that he doesn't make the Joker a main villain yet, I hope they don't make him the main villain until probably the last film, and his plan should be like the plot of Batman Live from 2011 where all the villains join together and try to beat Batman.
Also Eric, I bet you're not able to mention the MCU in a non-MCU related video.
Definitely. Have him been the villain of the finale, where he has been watching Batman, studying him, "Falling for him".
Then by the time the finale of the Matt Reeves universe, he will break every villain he ever dealt with out of Arkham for an all out attack.
With him being the final "Boss" in a sense.
@@spider-man500 Exactly. That's exactly what I hope Matt Reeves does. In the second film, more villains could show such as Mr. Freeze, Two Face, and I really hope Scarecrow, and when they're defeated by Batman and sent to Arkham, the Joker, with possibly the Riddler's help, manipulates the villains into waiting for the right time to take over Arkham, and if this will be a trilogy, more villains could come and in the end, all the villains could take over Arkham and Batman will have to stop them with some help by either Catwoman, Robin or both. Just like in Batman Live.
I agree. I'm all Jokered out with the various versions we've gotten. I rather see the Mad Hatter, Killer Croc, or Clayface on the big screen now. Perhaps, saving The Joker for the last film in the trilogy.
I agree. For the next one, I’m hoping we see Scarecrow or Mr Freeze next. I also really wanna see the Kite Man and, unironically, The Condiment King
I don’t think he’ll make the Joker the main antagonist just yet, but I can definitely see him in a supporting role in the sequel, similar to the Penguin,
and later build him up as the main villain for the third film.
I hear that some people laughed when the beaten criminal said "I'm vengeance." It's very impactful for the reasons you gave, yet these people were so starved of humor like the MCU would have, they would laugh at basically anything. I like the MCU, but it is shameful that it has had such a huge influence on pop culture that it makes people expect the same things out of other movies outside of the MCU.
People are seriously doing that?
A grown dude in a bat costume saying “I am vengeance” is inherently funny
The ending of The Batman is the most beautiful ending of a live action batman movie I’ve ever seen. Before, we never used to see Batman escorting lots of civilians from danger in live action than what Matt Reeves showed us. Civilians went from scared to hopeful. That’s what makes this new Batman movie so beautiful.
Thats some the animated series batman would do so its about time
@satirical mixed kid TheBatman’s ending to me wasThe most unique Batman ending to a movie. BatmanBegins had a great ending as well teasing The Joker in TDK but I personally like The Batman’s ending better.
Maybe because that's not the point of Batman? Watching that was like watching Super-Man be brooding.
@@farbodpirouz2457Have you ever actually read a Batman comic?
On the topic of practical effects, we actually talked about the use of models and miniatures in math class, and one of the scenes was the Batmobile ramming the truck in The Dark Knight. That lesson was a lot of fun.
In defense of Nicholson joker his goal is to spread chaos which I think makes sense for the joker as he is a self proclaimed agent of chaos
Yes you understand the joker
This is true but Nicholsons joker doesn't really hurt batman in much of a way. Ledgers joker for example, made a huge dent into batman by Murdering Rachael and making him break his rule. Nicholsons joker murdered Bruce's parents but at that point, he got over it.
@@Hadex01 He never got over it as seen in the film.
@@gohanson27 he did tho. In Batman Returns it's like The Joker never even happened
He's a self proclaimed agent of chaos only in Nolans movie. Nolan went out of his way to make batman and his villains as far from the comics as possible. Like they did with Bane.
I love how Paul Dano is a comic book nerd and knows about Batman lore, even the Court Of Owls
Great video! I enjoy all 3 movies and I hold each dear to me. I loved Batman 1989 as a kid, loved Batman Begins as a teen, and I love The Batman as a adult.
Same here buddy. 😉
Pretty much. Nicholson was scary as hell to me as a kid just cause he was so unpredictable. He killed on a whim. Nolan's Batman showed Us Bruce training and journey to become Batman. The Batman is the detective and intimidating Batman I needed.
I just love Batman 89 in every dacade
I couldn't wait for this and when the notification came around, I immediately clicked. Keep up your amazing work, Eric.
Same 😌🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
This might be my favorite versus you had ever done for a trio of films, and you highlight something these 3 films have that is worth all the praise they all get, the use of great MUSIC, Cinematography and practical effects and costumes, is defined something have been lost in modern blockbusters, and I'm so happy Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves understand this so well (Tim obviously for the time but still counts), Batman films always have this level of care and I'm so happy this is still retain. I love the 3, but as you say, Batman Begins is the more complete of the 3, but The Batman came very close and I love Robet Pattison as Batman, he is so far the best BATMAN when it comes to the mask persona.....still Christian Bale is my overall favorite Batman/Bruce Wayne, he did such and incredible work as both Batman and Bruce, and Michael Keaton is unique, but still his Batman interpretation to this day is iconic and I love that costume. Overall agree on all your points, I wish this video also put in the versus the Support Cast and the Music in their own separate category, all 3 have incredible music, and an amazing support cast.
You talk to much I'm sorry to say this but thanks that you talking good for eric sorry
i personally disagree with some takes, and overall, i'd take the batman over batman begins, even tho i really love batman begins.
That's probably due to overall tone. The Batman had such a consistent tone it's so easy to enjoy that Gotham. Love all the movies I think it's great that they can work together in the Batman myth.
I think The Batman is the best portrayal of Batman and beats Batman begins and DKR imo story wise ( even though they’re good still) but it will never top TDK in terms of quality that movie is legendary in terms of characters, story, villain and action scenes
That's ok, The Batman is a masterpiece, so is Batman Begins
@@denimschaffer9439 But it is far better than TDK in terms of it being a Batman story.

I just started watching your video and already know it will be amazing. Your judgment is always spotted on.
I do see Oscar Nominations for the Batman mainly for the technical aspects, such as Editing, Sound, Original Soundtrack, Cinematography, and Makeup. The Batmam is the kind of movie comicbook movies should be now these days, but most of them look dull.
Bringing in people like Christopher Nolan, Matt Reeves, and Sam Raimi to make these comicbook movies bring additional style that makes them feel and look unique.
The Joker/Riddler conversation at the end felt like a deleted scene. Speaking of which, didn’t really think the Joker scene fixed The Batman. I don’t want to see him fighting Joker anytime soon. I get it: he’s the best of Batman’s rogue’s gallery, but there are a TON of iconic other villains out there, too!
You are missing something though.
It's not that he is Batman's best villain(Which he is), it's that he is Batman's other side of the coin.
Batman is only truly put to his final test when the Joker is around.
So I am with you 50/50.
I don't want him to come soon, let other be the villain instead. But I do want him to come at some point.
I think the best way to handle this Joker is to have him cameo in every movie and series apart of this new Batman universe. Have him built up from the ground up, and then have him be the villain of the finale to it all. Have him be the ultimate villain.
Exactly. As much as I'd love to see Matt Reeves joker in full form, I think he should bench joker all together tbh because I think we've seen plenty of different versions in a short space of time.
@@tombailey837 Especially seeing Jared Leto brought back in The Snyder Cut just last year (as the worst Joker), I would like to wait.
Mr. Freeze is the next villain I believe, considering that the poster is blue rather than green or purple
Exactly. I wanna see scarecrow, killer croc and hush for the sequel or sequels and even more villains like killer moth (who has never appeared in a batman movie). Seeing batman fight joker AGAIN would be so tiring and cliche
I love the classical music you used for the lengthy introduction.
The Batman is the best.
It's the best written of these 3, but the biggest factor is the fact that it is easily the most "BATMAN" of all Batman movies.
It also just feels like HIS movie instead of the villain's.
What I loved about it is how it made me feel for Batman himself.
Man, that scene where he saves the civilians from the flood. It gave me serious Spider-Man 2 train save vibes. And I love it.
I agree on that last sentence
The movie feels less like a Batman movie and more like an episode of CSI or Zodiak Killer. It’s a cool detective story but you could swap out Batman for any other detective and the story is the same. It’s missing the theatrics of a Burton batman film. Gotham feels like just another big city without that distinct vibe of the comics
Not at all.
Batman begins feel much more batman.
No Batman Begins is the best. Much more complete and better paced but The Batman was good as well.
@@SigalDa hell no
I love how matt reeves made the riddler look like a average twitter user
Yesss!!! This is the one I've been anticipating!
Fantastic job Eric you clearly understand the character of Batman and his world and I appreciate you for that. you’re right we need more comic book movies like this and hopefully in the future studios could notice that 👍 🦇🦇🎥❓❓❓
I think for riddler's sudden motivation for the third act for the seawalls to explode is rushed and contrived, but it does make some sense.
The seawall is built using the money from the renewal fund. Riddler saw it as money that could have gone to him and destroying the walls shows that the money and effort to build it is gone and there will be less corruption I guess. Sorry for the horrible explanation.
My hypothesis is that Riddler has no faith left in humanity thus why he tries to destroy all of Gotham.
Your explanation isn't horrible. It's intriguing
Hey Eric great video as per usual. I wanted to bring something up about the riddler flooding the city. It's very clear in the movie that riddler is insane. So to him I saw it as the city is to far to save, and is more of a mediator for flushing the corruption out of gotham. I could just be reaching but that's just how I see it, and I totally see what you mean. Thanks for another wonderful video, you put so much work into these it's insane
Exactly, it's one massive metaphor. I always can't help but wonder if the flood is a reference to Taxi Driver when Travis Bickle says 'someday a real rain's gonna come'. Matt Reeves seems heavily influenced by 70's films.
Keep up the great work Eric! Love your vids and 100% percent agree with you
That plug in for the credit card at the beginning reminded me of Batman and Robin in the best way possible.

Thanks for the versus video! It was great! I was a little nervous about what they were doing with Batman (Pattinson) with him being more of a sign of hope. I do want to see where they go with this character because I worry they'll turn him into Superman. I gave The Batman an 8/10 but definitely one of the best movies I've seen in 2022.

anyone notice parallels between joker and the batman in hospital scene and the title screen. I love how the title just come straight without any build up or theme tune in background.
Riddler's overarching plan is strongly biblical. The use of Ave Maria, the bible verses, the film's very direct reference to Se7en, it's clear that religion plays a large part in this character's ideology. The flooding of Gotham harkens to the great flood of the old testament, washing away the unclean and the sinners. It is still a little silly that his plan included screwing over countless other people suffering in poverty such as himself, but I feel like that at least explains why he went with a flood.

I do actually think that there might be a reason riddler blew up the city. You see the thing is he’s a physcopath so he doesn’t give a crap about civilians. But I think the reason he didn’t care for them was because he thinks that all the good people were his twitch followers and Batman so he thinks that only the ones who deserve to live should live.

I don't really think you can compare these three movies. Completely different. One was the start of a franchise. One was an origin story and reboot. One picks up where a reboot isn't necessary
Do you think Matt Reeves can surpass the dark knight with his trilogy after watching the batman
Possibly
Like Peanut Jr said, possibly.
I’m hoping the second one is a very human film, like Mask of The Phantasm, and with Mr Freeze as the main villain. I hope it surpasses the first one by a lot.
Then The Court of Owls for the 3rd movie
maybe , but I know for a fact that he's one of the only people who's capable of surpassing it.
If he finishes it off better than Nolan did probably
@Rough Collies Rock It's not grounded at all. Batman takes an explosion to the face, machine gun fire to his armour, hits a bridge gliding at 100 km/h. Not necessarily a bad thing but it took me out of it quite a bit.
The Batman was solid. But Batman Begins remains my favorite
I agree.
Amazing video as always.
Hey Eric! Love the vids! I think the reason why the riddlers motovation was to bomb the city walls was he knew the higher profile people he wanted to get revenge on would be there and with the flood, they would have been trapped so with riddlers "cronies" would have been able to kill the higher profile people..thats why i think he did it!!
About the out of character riddler thing, i’ll refer to this reddit comment which i very much agree with:
“His is a vigilante. That's what that means. He believes the corruption goes all the way up and covers the whole city and with Batman's help he'd expose and eliminate them.
If it was just about murder, he could have killed any of them at any time. Like Falcone at the funeral. It was about exposing them and after that drowning them for revenge. I don't think it was necessary but lets just say it was like...shooting fish in a barrel”
The Batman is currently my 3rd favorite Batman movie, behind The Lego Batman Movie for Nostalgia reasons, and The Dark Knight for obvious reasons
This [The Batman] was my most anticipated movie of 2022. Here’s hoping Jurassic World: Dominion, my next most anticipated, is just as, if not, better than The Batman.
Also, I had a brain fart and forgot who Liam Neeson was until I remembered: Qui Gon Jin.
There’s so many things wrong with your comment but I respect that
Lego Batman and the dark knight are baller

Nicholson's joker being so directionless always felt intentional to me. Correct me if I'm wrong since I don't really read comics, but isn't the Joker supposed to be an agent of chaos?
