- Mark Kozelek - Third And Seneca. Live @ Sommerfesten, Giske, 31 July 2010
In my room at Third and Seneca
See the pigeons peck on tar rooftops
Homeless on the corners, they carouse
Ferries float out in the Puget Sound
Scenesters with their beards and tennis shoes
Skinny girls and pudgy ugly dudes
Lift their amplifiers from the ditches
Sullen doormen, brooding barroom witches
Seattle black, Alaska blue
Oregon grey, raincloud Vancouver
Dead-end Denver, drowsy Idaho
Just dreams away from your love, San Francisco
In my room at Laurel and Beverly
Your mind blossoms, mine is withering
I'm retiring, you're aspiring
You're dream-chasing, I'm only escaping
Blood orange LA, blood red Arizona
Lonestar Santa Fe, lone palm La Pomona
Old soul San Antonio, dry grass of El Paso
Lifetimes away from your love, I know
From my view at 32nd Street
Winter throws its snow down heavily
Empty halls of friends who've come and gone
I'm awoken, rushed, and dragged along
New York, New York, New Haven, Hoboken
The skylines appear spinning past in fast motion
The words we shared dissolved as they're spoken
All the worlds away from my love - Hudba
Yeah, I call this situation "Nick Drake experience" - singing those fragile heartfelt songs in the midst of all the mindless fuss. It tends to happen to most of quiet music players and I admire those who can still be true to their inner sound. Some passages in the lyrics actually seem to refer to those boring and drunk guys and girls. Great song.
13 years later, but there’s actually like 2/3 songs by Mark referencing guys with tennis shoes (or something very near there), lol. One of them is obviously in Third and Seneca, and then he says just about the same thing in Sunshine in Chicago, and I think there’s one more but I can’t remember the song.
Mark Kozelek's music deserves to be listened to standing face forward in solemn silence, that would show intelligent appreciation of the mans genius.
brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Words cannot describe the genius of this man.
Utter, utter, utter genius
All of his songs make me want to have a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other sitting on some porch somewhere, staring into a sunset.
I feel bad for Mark, he tries to focus on his beautiful song even though teh crowd isn't being silent and appreciating his music... damn those people !
those assholes don´t understand art
honestly, the coolest video on youtube. So unique with the crowd, song and everything
Even the best of musicians can be ignored under the worst conditions (like this,) Just be thankful somebody got a video of it so the people who care can enjoy it. That's what it's all about these days.
Sounds like he was pretty close to a dance music stage towards the end of the song. Thanks for the upload.
@TrapSoulDoor No, TrapSoulDoor, thank YOU! Admiral Fell Promises was an album that really opened my eyes. For the first time since God knows when, I finally found an artist who takes music as a serious, sophisticated art form, at least as much as Mark Kozelek does.
@TrapSoulDoor Nice posting. There's a similar posting on YT of Michael Gira being ignored somewhere in Italy. It's hard not to feel misanthropic sometimes. But at least he looks as though he's happy just to play the music. And what music!
Yay! New Sun Kil Moon album "Amongst The Leaves" out on 29th of May! Been waiting sooooo long.... it feels like, anyway.
Mark's the best thing that's happened to the music biz since Elvis.
The guy should be headlining, with the crowd sat together in the dark , ears open and mouths closed. There is something to be said about not being appreciated in your own time, though. At least he won't be reduced to a ringtone.
I was there... Mark was great, but the crowd was horrible...
And I was so mad...!!
Btw, you can find the whole consert here: konsert.smp.no/default.aspx?menu=1000,9&artist=191&play=1394
The guy sure knows how to make an exit...
@stevenstanley This actually is in Europe.. And I believe the level of the noice (chatting and such) gives a wrong impression of how it actually was to be there.
But sadly, I agree that this is not the best setting for his music. This festival is absolutely great, but there are so many concerts at the same time, and so many people, that this kind of quiet comtemplative music kind of drowns.
@LPWNCAKES Well said! I agree 120%
god what kind of crowd is that?
it's really hard to play that kind of music with all the commotion going on
@guitar19904 Hey dude.... I would be like some of them... just sitting and enjoying his songs..
@TrapSoulDoor Couldn't have been said any better.
all this time im watching this video...I kept wanting to say "SHUT UP!" out loud...I felt like I couldnt hear his song...argh.
@Praetorian10123 Lol, nice life
such a perfect and beautiful song man! the stupid people there talking and walking around, watching this video i was mesmerized by those chords and his technique, amazing
Musicians with acoustic sets just have to deal with it when playing festivals (
Was he pissed at the end? He just stops it and leaves... It made me sad, but I can see why..
I don't understand... what are you people judging this audiences mood on?
just because they aren't standing face foward in solemn silence doesn't mean they don't enjoy his music..
This performance would be so much better without an "audience".
This is hard to watch, wow. Pearls before swine, wha?
