    I've been fishing this fly a lot the last 6 months or so. I've caught a lot of trout on this fly after fishing many other patterns without success. I find myself tying this fly on first quite often. Had success with 12's, 14's & 16's ....Great pattern! Will continue to keep the Egan's Tungsten Surveyor in my fly box.

    For 30 years I have always started fishing with a pheasant tail at point a hares ear in the middle and a egg attraction on top. That way I have a darker and lighter fly and if the globug or mopfly works I know the fish are more aggressive to let me key in on what's working.
    I usually change sizes before I change patterns. I live in Central PA now and we have bugs galore and this is now a much better light colored pattern for me to use. Thank you.
    I now have replaced the hares ear with this one.

    Been killing it with this fly on the Provo and Weber River in Utah. Stoked on this fly for sure... I have gotten a lot of experience tying it as all my buddies have been stealing them on the river!!! hahaha

    Hi Lance! A little trick that will help with your dry skin issue is to run a piece of coarse sandpaper (around 150 grit) on your fingertips prior to tying. Crazy as it may sound, you'll have silky smooth fingers in no time.
    Hope that helps! Best regards from Portugal!

    Thank you so much for this, I caught 3 Rainbows on it today. I added a bit of chartruese to the thorax and it the fish loved it

    Nice. Pretty simple and I've had a lot of success with the rainbow warrior so I'm looking forward to trying this!

    Keep em coming boys .... formerly requesting 1) Your version of pat's rubber legs from Modern Nymphing 2) Walts worms you may use 3) tag nymphs I spied one with a white tag coming off the back in Modern Nymphing

      Derek Burt Pats Stone has been added. I don’t use Walt’s Worms. Tag nymphs work great. My fav is the red dart. The white tag was likely a new combo I tied up to try. They haven’t been good enough to need tying more.

    Great video! Quick question. I am new to fly tying game and am curious why you chose to use wire on this fly pattern but not rainbow warrior? Should you tie both patterns w/ and w/o lead? thx!

    what size hook has been most productive for this fly?

  • @rudychavira5558
    @rudychavira5558 Před 4 lety

    Hey the old eyesight, is off does the bead position, square, or round area matter as long as bead is up against eye of hook?

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  Před 4 lety

      Yes, you want the "round" area against the eye and the "slot" facing back. Otherwise, it won't fit as well (or at all).

  • @isupportthecurrentthing5225

    Hey lance. What sort of magnifyer do you suggest i use to really see the details of flies im tying? Lamp? Readers? Jewelers glasses.

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing Před 6 lety

      Nuckin' Futs I don’t use a magnifier but I’m sure you could find one at most craft stores.

    is this a light shade rainbow scud dub or the dark one?

    • @lanceegan1061
      @lanceegan1061 Před 5 lety +1

      It is rainbow sow scud dubbing from Wapsi. Hareline brand comes in light or dark shade but I don’t like their dubbing for this particular fly. (Hareline has many dubbings that I love) Wapsi rainbow is the ticket.

  • @flyfishingeasternsierras8664

    If I use the hareline rainbow scud dub, should I use the light shade, dark shade or light abdomen and dark thorax?

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  Před 6 lety +2

      If you have to use it, the light shade fits closest. I will say that it's very coarse dubbing and it's hard to get a nice compact thorax with it.

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing Před 6 lety +1

      Fly Fishing Eastern Sierras I’d skip the Hareline dub for this one. Wapsi rainbow sow scud dubbing is best.

      Here’s the thing. Rods reels lines truck time food. Trip to pick it - The Green Provo etc. add in the drift boat and camping/lodging etc etc.
      A $3 packet of dubbing ?
      Why play Pebble Beach with a range ball?
      It’s hard enough to hone something that works a good portion of the time. If a pro will put it out there with his name and reputation on it I just go into mimic mode.
      Buy the right dub.
      Just sayin.
