The whole album is a MASTERPIECE
Absolutely,,,, if I found myself alone on a dessert island,,,, if I had Animals I would be OK,,,, it's my bible
This song is a perfect example of how Pink Floyd's music is relevant, today. You discussed this as an actual current attack on Trump, when this was written about English politics in the 1970's.
Good art stands the test of time.
That's especially funny since the live shows show trump as the pig
As others have said, "Whitehouse" is a reference to Mary Whitehouse, a socially conservative old bag who was never off British TV in the 60s, 70s, 80s, railing against everything from televised violence to loud music to anything remotely sexual. It's cool that we can relate the song to today's politics, but it's actually got nothing to do with the US government directly.
She sounds like a good time on a Saturday night.
@@bschuler6216 Bay City Rollers?
Mary Whitehouse...Britain's version of Tipper Gore....a self-righteous bitch who hated anything that might actually be FUN.
@@williamosborne6866 S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y. NIGHT!!!
Ned's Atomic Dustbin do a mean cover of this Bay City Rollers tune.
Gotta do Sheep now. Then the holy trinity will be complete and you will have mastered the art of karate.
Gotta love those karate sheep!
Really they need to do the entire album!! Really there isn't that much time on the album left, pigs on the wings 1&2 are short, and sheep is just amazing! But everything together!?!
I think it’ll happen soon. I’m the person who paid for this song reaction and it came about because on the Dogs reaction video I proposed a plan for paying for a reaction to the other two songs as well. The guy who paid for Dogs reaction got in touch with me, and we made sort of a deal where I would pay for the Pigs reaction and he would pay again for the Sheep reaction.
@3y3 Ov eve Haha they're so dumb xD
@@PotawatomiThunderNew Awesome :D
They're actually talking about Mary Whitehouse. A British conservative.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Whitehouse
@@neil_9000 You are correct,, they refering to Mary Whitehouse,, described in the song as "house proud town mouse"
✌️
@@Misiu1963 aye, but when Roger Water did this song doing his 2016(?) Tour he purposely attacked Trump via this song. It was great
@@shortstuff780 👍
It's true that verse was written originally about Mary Whitehouse, but I listened to this song for two decades before I ever knew that, because it fits so well with our "Whitehouse" politics. So much so that I believe Waters himself sort of revamped it for that purpose, specifically for Trump.
The Whitehouse reference was about Mary Whitehouse, Conservative British activist who was against the “permissive” times...but the song as a whole has evolved into a very anti-Trump piece in Roger Waters live shows. Check out any of the performances from the “Us & Them” tour to see what I mean!
“Animals” is, to me, one of the absolute best PF albums. Cheers!
You are right about the song and about Waters live shows. I've been to 5 or 6 of his shows in the past 10 yrs but I never stay for his diatribe at the end of his shows. Love the music but not a fan of his left wing politics.
@Michael Grow up.
@Michael you just dismissed his opinion with that childish TDS label.
I learned something today. I had assumed it was was either about Nixon or maybe Kissinger for years.
@@rkenseth ah. So your one of those who likes the pretty songs and likes to sing along, but you don't know what it means...
My dad just died Tuesday and On the turning away was his favorite! You need to react to that song especially live version it is one of the best. If i have to become patreon to hear this song than so be it!
Metalpimp 114 haha rip
dude that is one of my favs too sorry for your lose but happy for your dads new transition of being,, in the end we all meet again.. my fav is about me and my twin brother and it is "lost for words:".. give it a listen bro..
Thanx man i will check it out !
Between the FAT Bass Line, the Profound and Timeless lyrics, This song is another "Perfect 10" from Pink Floyd. It's amazing how those lyrics Still ring True today huh.
Y'all Be Cool Amigos - PEACE
It rings true today because were still under the same system.
The whole Animals album is a perfect 10. My all time fav from Pink Floyd.
Nick Mason says it's all about the drumming. LOL
@@nickknee3515 agreed as you get older it resonates with you alot more 👌
Mary Whitehouse was a conservative activist, and no Thatcher wasn't popular to the working classes, on his solo tours Roger actually changed the line 'Mary (your nearly a treat)' to 'Thatcher'
Its called PIGS! So yeah, pig noises. LOL. That solo at the end though!! That groove is undeniably Floyd. Brilliant on so many levels
This is my favorite album of all time. I'm so glad to see you guys reacting to songs off of this!

When the song was written it had nothing to do with the Whitehouse in the nation's capital. It was a reference to Mary Whitehouse... a UK activist. And now you need to do "Sheep"... the heaviest track on the album.
What a gorgeous album Animals is. You gotta do Sheep now. One of the heaviest in the record. ❤️
My favourite too,,, greatest intro in rock music,,,, period
this whole album's like a funeral dirge for humanity
That's a good way to sum up most of the writing of Roger Waters. I don't think the man has experienced a single day of joy in his entire life.
If you haven't played that bass run at the end on your imaginary "air" bass, then you haven't really listened to this amazing song!
i thought i was the only one
For some reason I thought you two did this one already. Never clicked so fast from a near heart attack before!
Why you gotta go and start my Saturday with a near death shock of joy?
Yea I thought they'd done it too, i even searched cos I was sure they had 🤔
Epic solo at the end !!!
Hey Sori, I’m Sebastian who paid for this, no worries on not being too into the song, it’s all good 👍🏼 It was still a great reaction because I always love the discussions that come after the song is over, especially the longer discussions, I watch them all to the end. 😁 and Vin, you need mentioned how Pink Floyd should come out with an instrumental record. In 2014 they released their first album in 20 years called The Endless River which was almost entirely instrumental. The only song that had vocals was the final song on the album called “Louder Than Words”. All the other songs are instrumental. Very ambient, very relaxing music. I’d actually recommend the song Louder Than Words just for the fact it’s the only modern day Pink Floyd song, like with actual lyrics and stuff, plus it’s a genuinely good song.
What did you pay? Im gonna do the same i need to on the turning away!!
Metalpimp 114 reactions are $125 the first 3 times and $75 every time after that.
You pay for reactions? What about you ? Are you frozen? At least they should be able to absorb the material they are talking about
Lucio Della Porta I don’t understand what you’re saying to me.
And considering when this was written, the production is amazing.
The Whitehouse they're referring to is Mary Whitehouse, a British conservative campaigner who was very influential in the 70s and 80s pushing an anti-liberal social conservative agenda, particularly in the arts and media. However, while its a very specific reference to her, it's amazing how one can apply the lyrics to that other Whitehouse.
PS. Mary Whitehouse campaigned aggressively against pop and rock music and tried to get many songs banned. She’s on record as saying “the whole 'pop' scene has done more than anything to destroy the manners upon which Western society has been based.” Everything from Elvis to the Beatles, Bowie and Pink Floyd were her targets, often for very innocuous lyrics. Basically, she was a real prude! She even sought to ban kids TV shows like Doctor Who and The Goodies (Brits and Australians will know how absurd that is!).
@@lbd-po7cl And now it's the so called liberals who seem to be keen on banning things. Can't even have cartoon characters that don't meet their standards.
Love the T shirt, my friend. Go Bs!!!!
My favorite Pink Floyd song ever.
I subscribed after the NOFX The Decline review. But now the Bruins shirt confirmed I made the right choice.
the entire album has the most amazing keyboards i've ever heard!!!
It's about a British conservative activist named Mary Whitehouse. It's not about our Whitehouse.
If you have seen Roger Waters last show, today it is about the Whitehouse.
@@legend03100 As a modern protest, the lyrics say Mary

HEYYYYYYYYYYY!!! LOL :) NIIIICCCEEE FOR DOING MORE OF ANIMALS, I KNEW YOU'D GET AROUND TO IT, THANKS GUYS, BE GOOD!
still waiting for " sorrow " from the pulse concert.......
Animals is my favourite Pink Floyd album, it was the soundtrack to my high school graduation In the mid 80’s & this is my favourite song.
Oh, Sheep HAS to be next. You gotta!
the "Whitehouse" in the song refers to Mary Whitehouse, a conservative activist in Britain in the 70's
David Gilmour "sorrow" Live at Pompeii and "on any tongue" i seen your reaction to comfortably numb. These 2 songs are his next to best solos. Only P.F. member is Gut Pratt on bass. His playing without the BIG light show. recommend any other songs on that CD
Finally 👍This is my all-time favourite song
"Is Margaret Thatcher not very popular to British people?"
Man, when she died, "Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead" hit #2 in the British singles chart. People were partying in the streets.
When Vin asked that i was laughing out loud. "Not populair" is quite an understatement.
Where were these street parties? I seem to have missed them 🤔
The only people in the streets were the idiots who don't know any better.
Thatcher was the best Prime Minister since Churchill.
She was poor evil ask the people of Liverpool and the North of the Uk ?
Thatcher was a sociopath bitch
You guys need to do a full album listening party of "The Wall"
NIIIICCCEEE JBL'S! :)
this is in my opinion the most underrated Pink Floyd record. I would love to see you guys do Sea Of Madness or Still Life by Iron Maiden.
welcome to the machine!!!!!! next !!!!
The "Mary" mentioned in the third verse is allegedly Mary Whitehouse, who was a British educator and conservative activist.
Allegedly? The lyricist stated it clearly.
Nothing alleged about it.
Endless River thats what you need to hear
Battersea Power Station down the road from my old manor in Clapham South London on the album cover. Great reaction. Pink Floyd are absolute legends. Saw them live, never forget it.
I'd love for vin and sori to watch and react to the entire 20 odd minute set at live 8. To see these guys who had been fighting for decades come together and sound absolutely flawless musically. 4 old age men rocking out better than anyone today can. Had the crowd in the palm of their hands
Echoes and Learning to fly next please. Love your reaction and breakdown.
I still have this on cassette. This song fades out on side A, and fades back in on side B.
U should watch it again but the Roger Waters live version in Mexico!
it´s time for" Echoes".Greetings from Germany
Love the Bruins shirt!
Loooove pink floyd❤🐷🎸
Sori..Love the T-shirt. Can we have some background info?
As a PF geek something cool i want to point out. Look at how Vin's head bobbing automatically switches to the next guitar groove before even knowing what it was going to be at 13:55 - 14:05 something kinda weird about how good Gilmour is
Live at Pompeii
man this is one of my all time favorites, to smoke a little something, sit on my deck in a anti-gravity chair and stare up at the Pacific North West sky
Best Floyd album in my opinion.
Do pink Floyd echoes
Sooner or later you got to react to Live at Pompeii from the 70's. The whole concert. That's an experience.
I do love dogs, but this is the best song on the album.
Vin was really feeling that one lol
Poets and painters of music that s what Pink Floyd are and know one else can blend the two.
And Oh! what an outro pitty it faded out, and a session with Dave playing through a talkbox showing his versatility! Enjoyed it.
You should react to Echoes, which is long on instrumental. Abit of a montage of all the Prowess that this band has.
My favorite Pink Floyd song! You guys should check out My Journey to the Stars, and Valen both by Burzum.
Need to do the live version from the tour. Waters is outstanding with the screams.
You're definitely not getting any money when you misidentify the product. They are JBL, not UBL.
All about the money, money, money. V & $
And Vin is always so confident when he mansplains to Sori.
It's been JBL since I was a kid, I'm old now. Was JBL then, still is today.
UBL, 😝😝😝😂😂😂
It is JBL btw. You can do Pink Floyd Keep Talking as way of thanks for being proven right, Sori ;)
...mostly PF doing instrumental? That would be their "Meddle" album, which is straight-up astonishing
Yes! I was one of the "you gotta do pigs!" 😂
I think Mr. Vin will make an excellent Social Studies and History teacher.
Dear Vin & Sori, you have not only did review a Maiden song from A Matter Of Life & Death, a song of In Flames, but NOW ONE OF MY FAVORITE PINK FLOYD SONG?!? MY BIRTHDAY IS IN TWO MONTHS YA BASTARD
Luv
This is without a doubt, my favorite Floyd album by far.
Just a few things: Richard Wright (they piano/keyboard player) passed away from cancer in 2008 and really, there is no Floyd without him. Waters and Gilmore just do not get along, at all. This album needs to be listened to as a whole to get where it's coming from. As for Vin, there is only one band that comes close...TOOL. Stay safe, stay healthy
the Talk Box in this song imitates the pig's squeals!!! lol!!!
Same as on Sheep, David Gilmour does the bass and of course the lead guitar. That bass line at 10:17 ... damn...
when Roger Waters does this song in concert, he puts up huge pictures of Donald Trump :)
Yeah... Look at the video of it on YT.
The giant video screens flashing... Trump is a pig. In man high capitals. I thought it was a nice subtle touch in that concert :-)
The problem I have, is this: Animals was created during a time when it was conservatives who were the moral busybodies and social censors. The members of Pink Floyd, Rodger included, grew up in that era. The album is railing against authoritarianism and censorship, which, at the time, was the remit of the right side of politics. However, in the modern age, that has completely flipped. Where the conservatives were the holier-than-though censors, it's now the left-wing, 'liberal', democratic side of politics that have taken up that mantle.
If Pigs was written, here, today, it would be squarely aimed at authoritarian leftists(diversity is our strength brigade), not conservatives like Trump. He is a mouthy and uncouth bulk of a man, but he is not a tyrant nor an authoritarian, and has very laissez-faire approach to freedom of expression, including artistic. Yet, write a satirical song about the LGBT in the UK(I'm gay btw), and under current British law, you can go to jail for that... Under the 'Malicious Communications Act'..
To appreciate the intentions of the song properly, which transcend time, it is better understood as a statement against censorship and artistic limitation, and it's not the conservatives responsible for that anymore...Especially in the case of the UK.
As I said, Rodger grew up in a time when it was the conservatives seeking to silence him, so it's understandable that he superimposes that onto Trump. But, it's ultimately misguided and no longer accurate. Things change after decades, especially in politics, and Rodger hasn't caught up with that change yet. Other musical icons have, however, such as Jonny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, and Morrissey .
You were right about this album when you did the first song you did on it it's about the book animal farm so yes he is talking about politicians in this one
Dogs, Pigs and Sheep altogether paint the big picture of the themed album. You have to listen to all three for context. :)
The title of the song is Pigs(Three Different Ones), so yes, they are talking about three different persons. My interpretation is that the first verse refers to business men/capitalists in general. The second verse makes reference to Margaret Thatcher. The third verse references Mary Whitehouse.
To be honest, the Secret Service makes the call on going to the bunker. Trump could say no, but in cases like that, the President usually goes by what his security team says. For him to lie about it is crazy. He could have easily blamed the Secret Service. What's ridiculous is that The Press knows the procedure. So, reporting on it is a little disingenuous on their part.
Every president has had people protesting screaming along the fenceline. This is the only president that actually went into the bunker for protesters. The others said no. They even would stay at the window wondering if they made the right decisions. This is why bunker boy and bunker bitch were trending on social media
You're not supposed to be exactly in love with the "pig noise". It represents loathsome disgust. The low point of greed, selfish nastiness. That's the point. In recent concerts, Roger Waters did this song in dedication to Donald Trump, who eitomizes everything this song is about.
I heard a Story about when they went to a Studio with their first Album ...the Boss there said no way to have sucsess with this Music , before Pigs learn to fly .
After their Album was a big sucsess they let Pig-Ballons fly over London .( maybe on a Concert ) .
for me the best pink floyd song in live...about 20 min each time..with two solos of gilmour..you should try pigs at fort knox 1977
This album has Gilmore's best solo's in my opinion, the one at the end of this song is just fucking savage. The length of the songs make them less accessible and not as popular but it's some of their best work!
Yes, it's savage, biting, searing, all that.
Gilmour.
@@psbarrow Thank you!
The Animals album was on my turn table forever. I played it till the needle practically wore through the vinyl. I should listen to the entire album again, someday. Btw, it's the secret service that decides to take the president/vice pres to the bunker. Typically they just grab the president and whisk him away. But you are right, Trump doesn't need to make an excuse to go down in the bunker.
Huge Floydian!!!! And Animals, even though there isn't a bad Floyd album, is my very top rotation! The guitar and bass work is out of this world.
Animals sticks out among the Pink Floyd discography for many reasons, one of them being just how 'different' it is....yes its beautifully written and performed, yes in moments there is a blissful drifting of ones mind...but the purpose of this album wasn't one of comfort or to illicit warm daydreams. It is purposefully jarring, and abrasive at times, things like the pig squeals snap you back into reality, and that's exactly where they wanted you. This is a true concept album through and through, and the concept is awareness and social justice. Holding the pigs, and dogs and sheep accountable. We all have a role to play.
The animal factory Orwel...for me is best Pink Floyd album.Ciao from Roma
Anathema- Untouchable live in Universal Concert Bulgaria or studio version
Hi...at one point of the song you discussed about "White House" is actually about an English conservitive named Mary Whitehouse...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Whitehouse
Just so you know, no one in the band was happy with the quality of the recording of the entire album (Animals), saying it was way too rushed. There has been a big movement to try and get the album remastered. Roger Waters even addressed this in his rant a couple of weeks ago. Aside from that, one of may favorite PF albums. I will say this album has my great guitar solos! Gilmour really shines!
the beginning of the end for floyd
Another Pink Floyd classic that Gilmour plays bass on as well as all guitars.
Song references Mary Whitehouse a British Politician.
The song is just as cheeky in Waters' true sardonic style, calling the pigs a “charade” and even pointing criticism to British politician Mary Whitehouse by dropping her name directly in a lyric-and, perhaps incidentally, confusing American listeners into believing that the lyric was critiquing the White House itself.😅
this is the only song i listen to on that album.
By far the best of all Pink Floyds albums is Animals .
On liars and big lies and continued lies leading to people disengaging and no longer listening... That's the whole point!
The album you're looking for Vin is The Endless River.
Every song except the last is instrumental.
Warning though, it's often considered one of their weakest offerings or at least most unpopular offerings.
You should do Pink Floyd - Echoes - a good 23 minutes long! Sori can drift off to it as well.
Anathema- Internal Landscapes live in Universal Concert Bulgaria
The line about Whitehouse was about Mary Whitehouse who was a British social conservative but given current events the Whitehouse line could be about the events of today. Sori you're cool but damn, this song is a masterpiece! I'm not gonna be too hard on ya though. Like most people my age I was introduced to Pink Floyd by The Wall and The Dark Side Of The Moon, they're an easy intro. However, as I've aged and lived life Animals has become my favourite Pink Floyd album and I think if you keep listening you'll feel similar. This album grows on you big time.
And yes, Margaret Thatcher is not looked fondly upon by very large segments of British society.
'White House' is actually Mary Whitehouse and also the Mary in the song.
Those "pigs sounds" by David Gilmour are 🔥🔥🔥
Great song choice. My favorite album from Floyd. IMO best guitar work from Gilmour. Btw, they are JBL headphones. The ones Sori has are on ear. I don’t like those either, I do the over the ear. I love JBL. I have headphones, Charge and Xtreme Bluetooth speakers and 2 soundbars.
Deep Purple also wrote a song about Mary Whitehouse, called Mary Long.
The Whitehouse thing has nothing to do with the White House, they’re talking about Mary Whitehouse, a British conservatives activist
All waters on this one
