2:50 The English g is realted to the dutch G and the 'Dutch' ch, is wide spread though germanic languages, but disappeared in English (exept for spelling). The g has evolved and in northern and western accents the ch and g murched because the sound is pronounced mor at the back of the mouth. As a result dialects with the merged g/ch tend to keep English g in loan words and dialects that kept the distinction use their native g instead. Because ¾ of my family speaks with a soft (non merged) g, but I grew up in an area with the hard (murged) g, I do distinct g and ch and do use an English g in loanwords.
