Wow. Nice picking. I've had an early Klos travel guitar - with a mahogany neck - since late 2016 and still really, *really* like it. It's not the same as my battle-scarred 80's Taylor 510, but when it's not travelling it is perfectly at home sitting right next to it. When I first received the Klos I got into an email conversation with Adam Klosowiak about it and made 3 suggestions: a) Ship it with a better capo, b) Include a screwdriver, and c) Replace the 4 wood screws with machine screws and threaded sleeves. I am delighted to see that your guitars include all 3 - that says a lot for Klos as a company.

What a lovely review. To be honest, I skipped to the part of the video with the mini guitar because that's the model I'm interested in and I have to say that your playing is fabulous and showcases the tone of the guitar very tastefully and with clarity. I have found other demos and reviews of these guitars don't seem to do them much favors and the person kind of overplays or attacks the strings too hard perhaps(?) and don't make them sound as good as I feel they can. Whereas you did a wonderful job how pretty they can sound. Great work!

Every time I watch you review a guitar I want one ... you're the best guitar salesman of all time ... the last thing on earth I would've ever considered buying is a carbon fiber guitar ... despised their look and sound ... now I want one.
The wonderful thing about those composite instruments is the stability and consistency. Those guitars are perfect Stanfest guitars, because it will be impervious to any change in humidity. They should play the same im the desert as it would sitting on a boat in the ocean in the fog here in Nova Scotia

I live on the east coast of Canada, but I travel back and forth to work in Nunavut, which is drier than the heart of a haystack. I think I'm going to have to get me one of those travel guitars, absolutely.

I have a thin body Rainsong. It was one of the last built in Hawaii. It has the Fishman pickup. It sounds very much like the Klos. I like how you can take to stage out of a cold vehicle or the belly of an aircraft and is still in tune. You have done a great revue of this product. Thanks for sharing!
I have a rain song made in Hawaii I use the e a and g strings from a nylon set of strings mellows the tone a lot

Thanks for the great review. Based on your evaluation, my next guitar purchase might be the Klos (nylon) travel guitar. I usually ride my motorcycle to my weekly music lesson and taking my full-size classical guitar is a bit challenging, to say the least. The headstock, in a backpack gig bag, sticks up about 6 inches above the top of my helmet, creating a nice sail effect. The travel guitar sounds (no pun intended) like a great choice to take to a friend's house for an afternoon barbecue.

The Dreadnaught sounds fine but that travel size sounds a bit like a ukulele unless plugged in. My travel guitar is a CA (Composite Acoustics) Cargo and sounds bigger and less boxy. You are correct, no adjustments on my guitar. Once I cut the nut slots so it didn't play sharp at the first couple frets, it became a great little guitar. A close friend swears by his Journey Instruments carbon fiber guitar. Composites are hard to beat for stability and durability and many have amazing tone. If you want to spend some major coin on a carbon guitar, McPherson also makes them which pretty much lifts composite guitars from novelty to full-on legitimate.
I've found that some Fishman amp/guitar combinations really benefit from a TC Electronics BodyRez pedal. Might help that Travel Klos.

JP I ran into the same thing . . . I used to think carbon fiber guitars sucked . . . but my friend has NGD (every day it seems) and unboxes a carbon fiber mcpherson and emerald x20 / x30 . . . the mcpherson and emerald has their own tones, its loud but the chords ring with the notes . . . plus they are nearly weather / climate proof.
Furch Guitars makes a great travel guitar, my friend who's money instead of collecting planes, trains, or automobiles like his father / fore father he collects guitars

Also composites can be engineered for specific frequencies either dampen or release. I can see in the future music instruments being made with this . . . All the aerospace companies make them (because different parts of the plane vibrates, so for longevity purposes they engineer the composites . . . example is the wing vibrates at a certain range of frequencies and they design to absorb and dampen, the attached engine casing has its own vibration and the wing itself, depending on location will have its own frequencies, ex tip vs middle or leading edge vs flaps . . . )
stealth mats used in stealth fighters can deflect radio (and some sonic) or absorb . . .
It is possible to engineer composites to match or even exceed tone woods, but guitar manufacturers haven't put research or funding into this.
Its like the audiophile industry has amazing vacuum tubes with modern designs, or tube amplifiers far better than guitar boutiques, but guitar industry has far less budgets than audiophile industry . . .
It's weird more research is done by electric guitar industry into how to relic guitars to look like specific wear, than modernizing design (they could keep same looks but make better tone quality) or how much effort into specific vintage tones but no scientific tests on frequencies and building amps to match, while the audiophile industry can successfuly nail vintage record sounds with modern turn tables.
Your finger picking is immaculate, but I wonder what it sounds like when strumming some chords on it.

I don't have one, but several of my friends have Rainsong guitars, and in my experience they are loud, not quiet and muted. They don't sound like a fine wood guitar, but they sound pretty good. My friends own them because they are so convenient for touring as they never go out of adjustment because of weather changes.
I would have to agree with you Rainsong guitars are loud and have more bottom end than this Klos. They are heavier than all solid wood guitars but the are as stable as can be and a lot more attractive than the Klos
Jp correct me if I'm wrong that body is made of carbon fiber. They make race car body panels out of it because it can flex. It also flexes because it is thinner then composite and graphite.

Curious if anyone compared one of the full sized Klos with a full sized Composite Acoustic guitar. The CAs are among the most 'wood' sounding carbon fiber guitars to my ears.

Klos is currently building my guitar. But I cant stand fishman eletronics; so I asked if they would put a LR Baggs Anthem in and they agreed! I can't wait!

Hi, JP. I took your advice to ask Klos if they can install a K&K Mini. I emailed them and asked them if they could do that. I got a response in under 24 hours stating that they could and it would add $107 and two weeks, which I'm fine with. I think I know where my 2021 tax refund is going! I'll ve able to enjoy this bad boy out in my yard in the humid Long Island Summer. I've had experience with pickups the "miss" the E and e strings and it's frustrating!
It seems responsive and to project well.

Weather, cold heat, if one doesn't desire to expose a expensive wood guitar to the elements these options could be a real solution..

Wow. I just discovered this was a thing, because it's relatively new, it seems. Also, your style is the closest thing to my own I've found on YT - but that's besides the point; carbon fiber can be thought of as wood without the sacrifice of a tree. Trees are, after all, comprised of a *great* deal of carbon. This is like wood on steroids.
I listened and I watched. This guitar has good sound for a composite guitar. The sound is not for me. Even plugged in that guitar lacks alot of brightness and warmth compared with a wooden guitar. It might sound better with a K and K. This guitar has a definite niche market. If you live in Costa Rica or anywhere in the tropics this guitar is great because wooden guitars don't do well in those climates. This guitar is great because the composite fiber doesn't move with changes in humidity and temperature. For sound WOOD IS KING! Cheers everyone.
I have a Composite Acoustics Cargo and it is amazing. It sounds absolutely astounding for the size. It doesn't have a truss rod but the saddle isn't fixed and I shaved it to a really nice height, although after 15 minutes of sanding it felt like it was going nowhere and realized it was carbon fiber too. 15 minutes on a grinder later and voila. The Cargo ate my Journey OF660 for breakfast lunch and dinner. I got the Cargo for a steal at $400. If you can find one for under $1000, get it.
I have a CA Cargo. It sounds amazing except..., sharp on the first couple frets and since the nut is molded carbon fiber, I am afraid to file the slots any deeper for fear of going through the gel coat or going too far and having no recourse. So, it's a weatherproof, indestructible travel guitar that really makes me homesick for my wood guitars.
@@patricklundquist9869 Is yours a pre-Peavey? I've noticed the fit and finish of those aren't great. Mine is a Peavey and everything is perfect. Also I play it more than my '49 Martin 0-15 and my all solid Custom D.
@@patricklundquist9869 I just looked at mine and the nut isn't an integrated piece, so I could replace it if the need arises. Yours is definitely different.
@@bigmac51290 There goes my theory that pre-Peavey was better. Yes it is a pre. I definitely play my Martin J-40 more often. I'll need to keep an eye out for a KLOS. JP is really good at convincing me to buy guitars.
@@patricklundquist9869 From what I understand, when Peavey took over they would toss out whole guitars if they came out of the mould wrong. So the quality control was almost _too_ good, it might be one of the reasons CA went out of business.

There's a big price jump from hybrid to full carbon! For practical purposes, there's no need for carbon fiber for the neck. I wish they can go the other direction in price by using other material for the neck.

The smaller sounds a little more thumpy and the larger not much at all. So there is a difference, the small body has more pop and echo like. Definitely like the larger body and the scale lengths for both are the same. Nice sounding guitars.

The 3 ply top makes it a double top guitar. The price range for a classical double top can be around £12,000! They sound extraordinary with pristine clarity so this instrument is a bargain.

One thing I ordered you didn’t mention was the side sound port. It Doesn’t seem important… but to me it is a good addition. I strongly suggest it. At least on full size.
But I liked your explanation: it isn’t wood: It isn’t “better”but it also isn’t “worse”. It is just different.
I think it plays cleaner than wood. Which means you need to play a little cleaner. But that is not a bad thing. (For example: I think it is easier to hammer on etc. ). And yes I think it would be a perfect practice guitar. You move to wood after being forced to play clean on this… and you will sound great. But you don’t need to move to wood… this is all you need. Unless you get a travel size one.
EDIT: I also used the word “addicting” when describing playability in my text review of this guitar. I have not yet posted… I got it in August but wanted to wait a few months before posting a review.

Odd that composite (i.e. carbon fiber or so-called 'graphite') guitars run 25 percent heavier than comparable wood guitars. I say this because my only experience with graphite (carbon fiber) is with fly rods, which typically are 30 to 50 percent lighter inch-for-inch than wood (i.e. split bamboo) rods. But fly rods and guitars are very different critters, I guess, with different building requirements. Although I've learned that fly rods and guitars are often used and enjoyed by the same folks.

I am shocked at the sound, but for that money, I could buy 2 Sigma D-45 copies. It’s not worth it in my opinion.
Even if it did sound better, carbon fiber or graphite, whatever it is, will never get better with age like wood does.
Sorry, just do not care much for this one. Love the Alvarez, Yamaha, Boucher that you have reviewed, and also Recording King. It has to be wood, and that is my opinion . Other people might like the composite, but I would not spend two cents on one.
Nice review but can’t say I’d pay that much (checked the prices) for something that doesn’t have that woody acoustic sound.
