    There is a safety ruler, "Securcut", available at Amazon and other places, which has a RAISED handle, so that folks don't cut off their fingertips. The handle runs the length of the ruler, 13.5 inches, so that when you hold the ruler down, even pressure is applied to whatever you are cutting.

    Man, after seeing dozens of your videos now (I'm an advanced newbie), I have to say they are generally awesome. Thanks for doing this great service, and you can bet I'm gonna spend even more money with Simple-Shots than I already have. A red Torque just arrived at my house yesterday (it's very fun and accurate). Oh, and thanks also for promptly responding to my previous comments/questions. Absolutely outstanding.

    Nathan, there is available a special ruler for use with rotary cutters - it has a raised handle which not only helps to prevent cutting fingers, but also is great for holding the ruler securely on the rubber while cutting - it allows the same pressure over the length of the ruler, basically.
    THWACK!

    I have the Scout. The older version. What taper widths are best for this slingshot? 3/4" tapered to 1/2" maybe? OTT, I shoot, 3/4 butterfly (to shoulder anchor point). I mostly shoot from corner lip anchor point but, its time to stretch the span a bit.

    How much length do you add to the calculated active band length to account for tying to pouches and attaching to the fork?

    • @cerwach
      @cerwach Před 2 lety

      Depends on the size of your frame and the type of band fastening it uses.
      You just have to measure and experiment.
      The band should be long enough to extend below the tie groove and still have your active band length measured from the top of the forks to the pouch.
      Or long enough to fill the toothed section of a frame with integral clips.
      Or long enough to extend just below external clips.
      Or long enough to be folded at least twice for a frame with no-tie slots.
      I hope that makes sense.

      It is always beneficial to make your own bands. You can tailor them to your wants or needs.

    Hi, I was wondering are they V shaped or they have one side straight and other one slightly tapered?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 6 lety

      Great question. That's up to you and your preferences. Generally (key word) tapered bands are a little zippier and have a shorter life. The great thing about cutting your own bands is the ability to experiment (just make sure your blade is sharp!)
      Happy shooting!

    Does it matter what direction you cut the bands our of your material?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 3 lety

      Nope. Latex does not have a grain.

  • @MrDRUM4LIFE92

    can you use a fresh Stanley blade or doesn't that work ?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 5 lety +1

      You can, yes. But it will need to be very sharp and the flat edge is much more difficult to use than a rotary cutter. The flat edge wants to bunch up the latex which will always give you a crooked cut.

    • @GrandmasterHobbyist
      @GrandmasterHobbyist Před 3 lety +1

      Dont even try it man lol..get the materials he told you or you will piss yourself off and waste a bunch of material....speaking from experience i tried a rotary cutter on a cutting board and it bunches up and cuts crooked etc

    on tapered bands what end goes on the pouch

    • @simpleshot

      The thin end ties to the pouch. 👊

    @simpleshot how about Linatex sheets?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 3 lety

      Sure. They cut the same. Get them while you can because Linatex changed their formula. What we have, we have. It is no longer.

  • @TheThoover
    @TheThoover Před 6 lety

    so I'm guessing the narrow end attaches to the pouch?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 6 lety

      Indeed. If you've got a taper, the thinner end is the end that ties to the pouch.

    what size ammo would you recommend for a taper of 30mm to 20mm ?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 3 lety +1

      Those are very close to the size taper of our 1/2 inch steel bands - simple-shot.com/accessories/2s1000xx/slingshot-flatband-bandsets
      Not knowing the thickness of the latex, we can't say for sure, but assuming you're using a fairly thick latex (.7mm), those bands are going to shoot ammo close to 1/2 inch.
      And just because we always recommend it: Be safe and make sure you can shoot lighter bands and ammo flawlessly before graduating to heavier bands and ammo. 👊

    Dang, I wish I would have seen this before I completely MANGLED my first set of bands. I failed to realize the importance of the self healing cutting board and used a bamboo board. I couldnt get a uniform cut, and I thought I could go back over it on the spots that were either uneven or incompletely seperated... big mistake. I basically wasted 15$ worth of therabands.

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 4 měsíci

      Oh no, what a bummer! Yes, the self healing cutting mats help a lot!

  • @WV591
    @WV591 Před 2 lety +1

    those cutters don't work with anything thicker than .65-.75 mm rubber

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 2 lety

      That depends on the thickness of your template or ruler.

    Can pizza cutter works ?

    • @simpleshot
      @simpleshot  Před 5 lety +1

      Afraid not. You need a very sharp blade or you’ll have uneven edges and nicks that will result in band failure.
      Our blade in this video was not as it should be actually!
