How did he protect children when he posed as a FIFTEEN year old on the Internet (which is a teenager) and did nothing but trespass and get physical with people he accused? The castle doctrine could have been invoked on him in his other encounters, but the rogue sheriff allowed him to harass people with impunity.

The police department should have been investigating this online meetings. Not a citizen who had no formal LEO training...
Never directly confront strangers you've already established are dangerous. Undercover agents rely on their training as well as being armed for a worst-case scenario. Not to mention they have backup teams nearby.
Sounds like Lee was a good man and give his life trying to save children.

This is why you gotta be careful when doing things like this. you never know when one of these lunatic predators will pull a weapon out and use it on you when they realize they've been set up.
