- “Higher!” commands Madame Blanc, played by Tilda Swinton, as she instructs new company dancer Susie (Dakota Johnson) in the mirrored room. This crucial scene from Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Suspiria’ physicalizes a number of key power shifts that lie at the black heart of the auteur’s horror remake - and it provided more than a few technical challenges for the filmmaker as he worked to execute it. Here, Guadagnino talks in detail about how he achieved the illusion of Susie leaping to almost impossible heights, how his camera swirls about the mirrored room completely unseen, and the intricate relationship dynamics between the dance master and her increasingly powerful pupil.

Tilda Swinton was such a perfect casting choice for Madame Blanc
EXACTLY! she got the eccentric soul and emptiness but also filled with beauty
I could listen to him for hours - explaining the film and his ideas - he is a great artist!
Same! I also love seeing him smile as he's watching the scene. He deserves to be proud of his work.
The suspiria remake is fantastic. Whereas the original is a visceral technicolor nightmare, the remake tried a different approach and is as layered as a good novel. I love both the films dearly for different and a few similar reasons.
I want him to break down all the movie.
so true.-a rule breaker. visceral technicolor. masterpiece and refined. nightmare... for all.
@@daniangelicamongiat2417 are we talking about the same movie???

I knew they were in love
Brilliant film, brilliant video.
We need more of this videos, in which directors break down scenes from their movies.
I'd like to see Tarantino or Scorsese doing that ...
