This man made a whole musical skit cause he was never allowed to be in one in high school
ICON
LMAOOO
True fact: Drew Carey put musical numbers in his sitcom for this reason. H e wanted to add them to "Price is Right" ,but Bob Barker said "no".
He should have gone to my school
Any dude that came to tryouts or walked by the theater room they’d take
Actually, he made 2 skits (Diner Lobster) 😂
Who?
when snl just goes full nonsense, its when it really shines
I know I love it!
This shits scary af. My granma would be dissapointed. Saturday night live was best during the 50s. Back when people would smoke cigs and have sex at Disneyland in the bathroom with 2 strippers.
You have to be from nyc to understand this skit.
@@eugenestarov4890 nah. Im from Wisconsin and we would tell you you wouldnt really get this unless your from the Midwest
Absolutely nothing to do with nyc lol
I like how the toilet is completely disgusting but the toilet paper is still folded into a triangle
I didn't even notice 😂
damn. good eye
thats genius. i didn't pay attention to that detail. lol

This cat's costume is better than this year's cat movie cgi
To be fair, thats a pretty low bar
So are the cockroach costumes

I imagine the writing sessions started with, "Okay, people liked the Diner Lobster sketch, but some thought it went a little off the rails by the end." And then John said, "'Off the rails?' I'll show you 'Off the rails!'"
James Relich i read that in his voice 😩😂
It did go off the rails. Started off great.
Ah Der Der Der. You're so funny, 😤
SNL writers: diner lobster was off the rails by the end. Mulaney: hold my beer
James Relich John probably wrote this episode, he used to write on the show anyway
I’m telling my kids this was Cats
Brilliant 😆
Better special effects for sure...
More like Rats.
you’ll be doing them a huge favor.
lol
Somehow I find it so endearing that John Mulaney is a musical theatre dork. It makes me feel like glitter is exploding inside me
Sneaky Crazy Ex-Girlfriend reference... I think Mulaney would have appreciated it
That feeling is known as gay
Imma find him
And imma *bleep* him.
Einsame M no that’s just the effects of the Bodega Bathroom
They made 3/4 of a gay man but forgot to flip that final switch
Producers: whats the budget for this skit?
Lorne Michaels and John Mulaney: yes
yuliana
My thought as well. This must be one of their most expensive sketches ever.
I hope this becomes a running gag whenever John hosts
Hopefully John keeps hosting!
Yesss
Agreed.
Also, I love the GKMC picture.
GAG being the key word !
I think he needs to host every season
special shoutout to the costume, prop, set design and crew, lighting, and everyone else who went way over the top and made this skit so great
Yes! They did a wonderful job. It's sad they never get any credit. Without them there'd be no show.

when John mulaney's tie drops at 2:11 and he picked it up I felt real theater vibes
same tho i was like "nice didn't break character John I see you"
As someone who’s been in theatre for many years, I’ve done that too many times
In case you were wondering:
1. 0:45 "Pure Imagination" from Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
2. 1:46 "The Candy Man Can" from Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
3. 2:43 "Feed Me Seymore" from Little Shop of Horrors
3. 2:59 "Memory" from Cats
4. 3:39 "Oompa Loompa Song" from Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
5. 4:42 "Seasons of Love" from Rent

ok, next year when mulaney hosts again, can the entire episode just be a musical?
Ben To The Future I support this idea
Yes, please.
Please
They haven’t referenced Hamilton yet! And Little Shop didn’t actually get a song, so here’s hoping.
I'd pay just about anything to see this happen.
SNL should run like a Christmas special where Jon Mulaney just writes wall to wall musicals.
Carl E. Now THAT is what dreams are made of!!
@lorne michaels give the people what they want
Carl E. Best idea ever
"TRENDING" IS NOW ONLY FOR THE SIMPLE MINDED. NEAR ALL POLITICAL VIDEOS AREN'T ALLOWED. THIS HAPPENED WHEN CZcams REALIZED THAT DEMOCRATES LOST NEARLY EVERY DEBATE ,IN THE COMMENTS SECTION.
superman superman And as I see you represent the group of “simple minded” here...
I like to think that the characters in this, airport sushi, and diner lobster are the same characters, and this stuff just keeps happening to them 🤣
It is (at least Pete, Chris, and John).
I know, I meant the characters they play as customers
Yup that's how recurring characters in sketch comedy work.
I love how Beck shows up during the last song wearing normal clothes and just stays in the back dancing and singing. He’s having the time of his life 😂
He was also the voice of the Toilet
That’s why he was just normal clothes I think
Nice sequel to the diner lobster skit.
Nice work by the costume department this week. I wonder if they took the cockroach legs off Don Cheadle's costume.
@@blakes5827 They 100% did
The lobster! Yeah same people that to was great
They should do buying sushi in a gas station.
Why is that a thing?!
Fenuna Granchweed because the bodega man can
If it doesn't involve gladiator matches and the first born of a centaur, I don't want to watch it.
with the musical influences of Wicked, Sound of Music and Sweeney Todd
If they did I woukd have to sue for emotional damages because I do not watch snl to be attacked
John Mulaney is the best thing that ever happened to the theatre kids hiding inside this cast.
That bodega actually looks like it would be fun to run. Lol.
That’s how it gets you...
*oh, the bodega man can*
I love how much Pete enjoys these Mulaney musical bits
They love each other
Awsome ✌🏻💯💕🌹
Pretty sure he wrote this. He definitely wrote Diner Lobster
I don’t know how I never noticed that John’s bow tie fell off and he had to pick it up during the choreography
Totally thought he was trying to look for his spot- that makes the most sense.
He picked it up to prevent any problems when the shop parts turn.
Yep
Conan brought it up when John was on the show
Annie Lanier shit was so funny 😂😂😂😂
Now that Cats is getting an LSD drenched remake, I need John Mulaney to come back and write a sketch about it.
Tune in on 2/29/2020 (Leap day) to see if this happens. John Mulaney is coming back to host SNL.
You want a ticket to... the Cats movie?
Lorne Michaels: "Alright Mulaney, somehow that weird sketch you made us do with the Les Miserables diner lobster was well received. For the sequel, which musical do you want to combine with NY culture next?"
John Mulaney: "ALL OF THEM"
Why did John clapping out of sync make me laugh the hardest
I think he was too excited and busy high-fiving everyone that he missed his cue 😅
Hannah Bowman This is why he wasn’t allowed to be in his high school’s musicals. 😂😂
Hannah Bowman he drops the tie and he can’t recover, the stress of it takes effect after his line
Elle Kay hmmm, Jimmy can we get a timer on screen
Hannah Bowman omg I never noticed that this is amazing
This bodega has incredible set design...
For sure 💝
They’ve been getting really elaborate with the costumes!
Haha! I was waiting for that line from Pete!
Even in this comedy skit, Cecily's singing voice is no joke 🔥
Right? I'm surprised more people have not commented on her voice.
Thank you! She is a legitimately awesome singer. You can clearly hear her power through all the other voices from time to time. Why hasn't she recorded an album as of yet? :(
who’s here after airport sushi
Meee
Yup
Meeeee
And Lobster Diner
Had to watch all 3
That "tiger sex pill" line is delivered so well I just keep rewatching that part
I keep watching the black light part 😂😂
We got the sequel! The production value on these kills me!
I thought for sure Everytime they cut to Pete he was going to make a production value/elaborate set comment again. This was so great
"I've decided to drop out of NYU and run the Bodega full-time" Pete's delivery of that line always fucking gets me LMFAOOO
Wow I love Lin-Manuel Miranda’s tony award winning musical, In the Heights :0
Aidan is cool I thought the same thing!!!

Deadass thought this as soon as i saw the word "Bodega"
Dear SNL,
More of this please.
Thank you.
It was John Mulaneys first rejected skits

Or at least find a writer who's just as weird as he is, if not more.

Aw, I was missing Stephon, too. Since Hader was there, kinda hoped they’d add him in.
I read this in Haders voice lol
John did an interview once where he said sometimes he would change up haders dialogue right before he went on as Stefan to get him to laugh. As a huge fan I remember many times when he was saying the names of clubs and what they had where he could not keep it together so he had to cover his laugh w his hands.
You forgot Dan Cortese lol
"... And human sour patch kids!"
Seth: "I'm sorry, did you say human sour patch kids?"
Stephan: "yeah, You know, it's that thing when a midget dresses up like an oompa loompa and walks around a grimey bathroom in a Bodega while singing songs from musicals"...

Just type "Memories" in the search engine above and you can hear many different artists singing it.
“Would you like your water hot or sold block of ice”

The best part of this beautiful sketch is it genuinely looks like they are having so much fun. I think that the skits that end up having most (or all) of the cast are the best ones.
A second installment to the nonsense Mulaney musical parodies, why they exist lol. Amazing

Divya Patel little shop of horrors is a musical where a guy named Seymour has a plant that lives off only of human blood and there is a song called feed me Seymour. The toilet is supposed to be the plant

The angle of Kate's arms in that candle costume and Cecily singing about a flan that mysteriously appeared in her hands are the two of the funniest details in this sketch.
Watch VERY carefully in the bottom right corner of the screen at 5:14. They give it to her while they cut to the guy smoking watching soccer.
