- According to our camera, it's too cold to operate normally! Winter narrowboating can be beautiful if you wrap up warm! Today we take a trip from Engine Lock on the Caldon Branch of the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Leek Branch and the end of its navigable arm.
Colin discovers the transhipment base at Endon Basin, a disused railway that could see trains going to Alton Towers, and floats the idea of opening an ice cream booth in the middle of the Caldon Canal.

Your camera work and historical reference clips keep amazing me. I never have to imagine what you're talking about and then the sublime, completely unnecessary, quiet moments you add in of machinery at work, etc... are the hallmarks that make you a true artist. It's truly top shelf work, you two must be proud.
It really gives me a buzz when someone ‘gets’ why I do things the way I do them. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this. It’s made my evening 💜
@@FoxesAfloat Rather than the risk gilding the lily I will simply say you're welcome and please keep doing it.
I adore your videos, I adore Otis, and I adore both of you! Thank you so much for bringing your brand of narrowboating into my home - I cannot tell you how much joy (even in sad times) that you have given me. I'm certain that you have feedback from your many other subscribers in this regard, but I do feel compelled to thank you even though I may be one of thousands. Thank you, much love to all 3 of you because you share your love so freely, and Merry Christmas. -K Sea
Thank you so much! Happy Christmas to you and all the best for what will hopefully be a much better 2021! xxx
You two continue to amaze me with the quality of your vlogs. The music and videography are second to none, fitting to be a prime time BBC documentary. Good to see that Shaun is improving and that Otis always seems excited to be a true "seadog".
Thanks so much 😊 It really means a lot to hear that from someone who knows what they're talking about 💜👍🏻
BBC ITV C4 and Sky couldn't make this quality. You just need two men in a boat.
Thanks so much!
Yes BBC would pobably need a 30 people and a month to make half an hour of programme. Producer, Director, Editor, Camera, Sound, Reseacher, Make up, Costumes and tea maker and more and the result would turn out worse. I am always amazed at credits of even a short programme. They need to move into 21st century
'God bless muffs' was not what I expected to hear you to say 🤣
😂😂😂
Hee! Hee! Hee!
I’m glad I’m not the only one laughing at muffs 😂
Never did I ever think I'd be hooked on learning /watching to men cruise the canals of Britain. But here I am. Hats off to your brilliant channel and the life your both enjoying together.
Wow, thank you!
I wonder how many people realize how much goes into making us a quality video..I want to thank you for putting out entertainment on a weekly basis for our enjoyment!! Give Otis a cookie for me, love you guys!!
Thanks so much Darlene 💜
Just started watching you from the beginning. Have reached 134 and have to say Covid really did knock Shaun sideways. He certainly wasn’t his usual bubbly self.
He was very ill for a time 💜
@@FoxesAfloat so good to see him back to his usual self. xx
Nothing beats the beautiful English countryside.. Thankyou for sharing with us all
Our pleasure!
Gentlemen...I have binge watched this series over the last 7 days. Excellent work in every sense. As I got halfway through I felt there was a opportunity for a big network to capture this and it would seem this has happened. So good luck and well deserved. Photography was worthy of an Attenborogh epic. To Sean & Colin good work!
Aww, thanks so much! We've had offers from TV but we want to keep control of the content so we're happy doing what we do 👍🏻 Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Gentlemen. Apologies for my confusion. I took it that Amazon Prime Video (nice budgets for Jaffa Cakes and more) was involved with Project Evolve. A sort of canal based take on The Grand Tour. I will leave you to sort out who is the Jeremy Clarkson and James May characters but Otis must be Richard Hammond! Take care of each other.
Shaun, I just wanted to offer my sympathies on the loss of your father.....I know it's a few months in the past at this point. I'm watching your vlogs in order and just watched that one this morning. I've lost both of my parents and no matter how old a person is, it makes you feel very lonely and a bit like an orphan. It's nice to see in this vlog that you're smiling and laughing more. I'm very happy that both of you have recovered from being sick and I wish you a wonderful spring! By the way, I love your vlogs, both commentary and photography and look forward to many more !
Thanks so much, Brett 💜
This is so true. My dad passed in 2005 and my mom in 2013. I remember standing at the foot of my mothers grave at 49 years old feeling like an orphan. It’s so hard. Bless you Shaun.
Love how Otis stands on his hind legs to watch the scenery.
He loves it!
you must have swallowed all the books in the library your knowledge on the canals is incredable very well done that man
Wow, thank you!
Good to see Shawn smile and getting back to good again, be safe and keep smiling!!
Thanks, Barry! x
I love how curious Otis is. I love seeing him standing up looking out at the scenery. He is so precious.
He really is! x
Otis is so very cute watching the intro.
💜
"Hunky contractors." *chuckle* Down, boy! Ha-ha. Cheers. Love you guys!
😁
Looks like Sean is much better. That's a big relief. Pat on the head to Otis.
Hehe, done! x
Wonderful to see you are both recovering ... you scared me when you both got sick ... be well and take care. You are my favorite youtube program. Thanks for being who you are!
Thank you so much!
I lived in Leek for many years, my late husband’s family are from there, I’m now in Stafford and it was lovely watching these last few vlogs from Stone. So glad you are both on the mend from COVID, and so very sorry for the loss of your father Shaun. I’m binge watching from the beginning (unless I get distracted like I have with these last few). Your vlogs are so de-stressing and tranquil, I feel thoroughly chilled out when I’ve watched them, and educated. They are so informative, I’ve learned a lot about my own area watching these vlogs, long may they continue.
Thank you sooooo much, Karen. I love when we bring back memories for people.
Not just the beautiful scenery and your commentary, I really enjoy the music choices! And of course, everyone loves Otis!
Thank you very much!
I am pleased to see you both looking better and getting over that nasty virus. Otis seems to be in his element-such a beautiful dog.
He loves life on the boat!
Its so good to see you guys looking all lovely and pink again, especially Shaun. Did Otis fall in or did he leap in. Cheers
He fell in 😂
Oh dear, poor Otis, looked cute with the zoomies though
Thank you both Shaun and Colin. Not having a good week but the light at the end is always your vlogs. Thanks for putting a smile on an old man's face. Take care of each other and until next time take care
Thanks so much. Happy Christmas to you and all the best for what will hopefully be a much better 2021! xxx
Oh the detail you bother to research and pass on to us is so interesting whether or not any of us are local to that scene. Many thanks
Our pleasure 💜
Shaun seen in real colour not grey and white, pleased to see you improving Shaun. Haven't done nippy narrowboating yet! Can't believe otis jumped into the cold canal. Bet the boat is warm and toasty for you both during the rain. Look forward to next friday guys stay safe.
Thanks Paul!
I lost you for a while, I was one of your original viewers, when you gave up work ,and I was with you all the way when they put your boat on the water for the first time and your first panic attack on the river, you are much calmer now and looking really well and happy ,now I've found you again I can enjoy your adventures again, best wishes x
Yay! Welcome back 👍🏻💜
Nice to see you both smiling and healthy ,Sean I hope that crusty cough goes away soon. Entertaining as always with the history and scenery.
It's going now, Eric 👍🏻
How to brighten a crap week? watch you three. Love you guys.
Thanks so much!
Shaun is making progress and that’s really lovely to see 😊
Yeah, he’s getting there 💜👍🏻
Colin don't look half bad with hair on his head! I did notice that the "hunky canal workers" noticed Otis. Who knew that Otis is such a guy magnet! Those aqueducts just amaze me. Think of the loads that a simple bridge has to carry then think of all that water as well as your boat that the aqueduct has to carry. It's a marvel! Incredible show guys! I feel like young Mr. Grace, "You've all done very well!"
Haha! Thanks, Mike. Yeah, the contractors loved Otis 😂💜
Thanks, Gentlemen! Thankfully, Shaun looks and sounds a bit better, and we keep praying for that full, and speedy recovery. Stay safe and warm! Extra biscuits for Otis, please, zoomies and all.
Yes! Thank you!
Not long before Otis is going to be able to jump over the side cover. Keep well and warm
(about two weeks ago) 😂
Blimey that dog has grown, watcha feeding him on ? Lol
Haha! Good quality puppy food 👍🏻
Hi, guys! I'm always so happy when you add a new vlog. It is so very good to see Sean looking much more back to normal and acting his old self. Take care and now that you have many of us that care about you even though we don't know each other! Hugs
Thanks Rick 👍🏻
So wonderful to see Shaun, and of course you too Colin. Shaun you look a bit peaked and tired but so happy to see you back on your feet. I’m sure you are greatly relieved Colin and will take good care of him. Please feed him. He has lost a lot of weight. Hugs to you both and Otis.💞
Absolutely. He's well on the mend and feeling better with some weight off! x
Damn, guys that was great. I can't even imagine the amount of research you must do, incredible. Otis is becoming a really pretty dog isn't he.
He's a real terror! 😈
Glad to see your arm is doing better. Love watching Otis having such a good time on your travels. He looks so happy. Maybe he was a sailor in another life. May be cold, but still beautiful spots you are going to.
Yeah. It’s lovely!
Thanks for the hunk ay 16:29! I hope you were friendly to him.
Ohhhh, yes 😉
Really enjoy the history lessons of the area. The canal experience is so interesting. Here’s hoping Otis gets more runs. He’s all puppy. 👍
Haha! He get's lots of exercise 👍🏻
Poor Shaun putting on a brave face then after Covid, but happily these days looking properly well again. I reckon once I have caught up I am going to start over again watching all the episodes, they are beautiful. I grew up in the UK and was always cold even in the summer, where I live now it is always hot or really hot, but watching this episode I felt like I needed a wooly hat too. Brr.
It was really cold! x
Well, hello Gents. Good to see Shaun with more twinkle in his eyes this time round. I never tire of the lovely scenery in your videos Colin and, therefore, I need to make a UK canal trip on a narrowboat part of my bucket list...someday. Keep safe & warm fellas.
Glad you enjoyed it, Doug! x
Grey and faded green, cold in thin winter light, thank you for sharing. Looking better Shaun, but we are glad you are taking care to go at slower pace. Otis meditating and his post dunk Zoomies are great! Sending love and healing....❤️
Thanks 👍
Otis is growing into an exceedingly handsome dog!
A bloody terror! 😂
I remember that bone chilling cold when growing up in New Zealand. Living in Alberta at -20c is a lot easier to handle because of the dryness. When they trench the canals, what stops them disturbing or even ripping up the puddle clay which provides the waterproofing for the canals? As a lot of the canals are over 200 years old, surely the puddle clay must decay or weaken.
Maybe a question for the CRT engineers 👍🏻
You have a marker on your bucket which shows you how far to dip. 🙂
Only recently discovered your vlog. Love it. It’s always SO interesting... In a way you fulfill part of my dream life.... And at the moment, importantly, you also visually give me back some of my freedom from these crazy times! Thank you so much! I wish you a speedy recovery 🌿
Thank you so much and welcome to our channel xxxxx
Little Otis 😍😍, bless him, he had such a cheeky, inquisitive face. Love the zoomies 😁. I'm enjoying seeing parts of the country that I would otherwise probably never visit and hearing about the histories of those areas. It's a shame to see old boats abandoned and left to rot - they could be restored. Hope you are all warm and toasty in front of the stove😀
Thanks, Tazmin. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Shawn, I hope and pray that your lungs are healing and that you will be healed before too long. Brothers, take care of yourselves and stay warm and dry.
Thanks, John. x
Just watched your xmas eve live and wanted to say how good it is to see Shaun a bit more chipper, and to Colin, you do an AMAZING job at preparing, filming and editing your vlogs. They are well researched, well presented, interesting, funny and entertaining. You make them both professional and really normal and relatable. You are talented and skilled at it. I love how Shaun supports your passions and I can really sense your genuine natures. Big love to you this christmas and into the new year x🎄🥳
Thanks so much!
Shaun's looking like he's on the upswing and doing better, in fact, at 0:06 Shaun looks like he's about to take charge looking off in the distance before seeing what Collin's narrating about. That's a wonderful sign. Take care of each other and Otis, we need y'all in this very interesting year and beyond.
Yeah, he's well on the mend now 💜👍🏻
Hallo, my dears!
So glad to see you 'taking a Leek'!😊😂
Otis is an incredibly normal puppy!
You're going to have to keep your eyes on him, for a while!
Please take care!
All love, and best wishes, Claire and the girls, Berlin 😘 😘 😘 ✌ ❤
We will!
It's cold here, too! (MD, USA) Shawn seems to be improving; I'm so glad. Best wishes, lovely people!
Thank you! You too!
I don't know why you both came up in my my recommended list but I'm so glad you did, best thing to happen threw lockdown thank you for making me smile 😃
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you chaps for getting me through 2020.
I had to give up on my dream of living on a narrowboat but I have enjoyed living it vicariously through your videos.
It has been an awful year and I haven’t even been affected by covid, you three (and Dillon) have made it bearable and given me something to look forward to every week. I’m looking forward to a better new year and wish the same for you all. 🥳🥳🦮😷
Always welcome to join us every Friday! xx
Good to see you guys recuperating and getting back to your selves as much as possible . Can't believe Otis still wants a swim at this time of year no wonder he went zooming. All the best from Portugal again guys .. Take care
We agree!
I love otis's permed ears. He looks so full of trouble when he's on guard.
Great to see you both back. Please keep warm and take your time getting better but get better very soon. If you follow that. Love you all. Xxx
He's a little terror! 😈
It takes time. Better days are coming. Miss Shaun's laugh. It'll come when he's ready. Love and kisses.😘🙋♀️
"Miss Shaun" made me think of Shirley Temple with Shaun's face. 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the unexpected laugh.
He's almost back to normal now 💜
Ha ha my bad should said "I miss Shaun's...". My English teacher is rolling over in her grave.
Should have said..auto correct is a smart ass.🙄
Friday foxes afloat fun frivolity and fascinating fascinating facts and the fluffy fun loving OTIS XXX
Haha! Thanks, Carol! x
Hi. Shaun is looking a lot better has a bit of colour again. Ottis looks like he has had a growing spurt. Stockton Brook Pumping Station looks in very good condition the Brickwork and most of the windows still in it. What a fantastic home it could be turned into. I wonder if the pumps are still in there it would make a nice museum to the Canals and water pump Engineering.
It would make about 100 apartments the size of it.
Good to see you looking more chipper, Shaun Hun. Stay warm and safe both of you. Love
Thanks so much
love the music @14:30
Cheers 👍🏻
Reporting for duty with windlass, warm jacket and mini milks to hand. Lovely to see Shaun beginning to get his spark back. Stay safe you three. Happy Christmas, x 💜
Thanks Anita!
Otis on the boat in the background during the intro! 🤣 So cute!
😁
Lovely to see you boys, even if you’re a bit chilly. Sean is looking better and must keep as warm as possible! Thank you for all the info. Take care.
Thanks so much 😊
I’m not sure which 1 of you 3 I love the most. Lovely family
Aww, thank you! 💜
Nice to see you feeling better Shaun 💕

Can we all take a moment to appricate the quality of production here!! :) keep up the fab work
Much appreciated!
Rather chilly but beautiful nonetheless. Thank you once again. Keep warm!
Thank you 💜
Have a very Merry Christmas the 3 of you. say warm and safe take care.

Another fine video. It's another world is canal life I never knew existed. I thought I knew my English geography but I've learnt so much more from you two. Keep warm and safe guys. Best wishes from Chris. Love to Otis.🌈🌈😀😀😁😁🐕🐕
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to see you three looking better. Stay warm and cozy and well tucked in, it's cold out there. Love the historical info as well.
Thanks 👍
I stand continually amazed how the UK has preserved so much of our history, especially it seems things than force us to remember how and where illustration of the industrial revolution.
I think it's great that we remember it 👍🏻
Fab to see you both looking better and keep warm 😊 x
Thank you! 😊
I think you are lovely couple you come a cross as very good souls xx
Oh thank you!
So happy that Shaun is feeling better which will make you, Colin, feel better. I must say, I love the way we get a travel dialogue and so much history in your videos. You both study a lot to pull off what you do, almost seamlessly. And to scold you... - "Can we say sheeps?
No because The plural of sheep is also sheep."
You need to understand that this is our little world where Sheeps and Geeses exist. The soon you embrace this the better 😂👍🏻

I'm watching the blog eating some warm swiss steak with garlic and cheese scallop potatoes, I just walked into the house and its minus 18 deg C right now in Alberta Canada. I giggle seeing you guys saying its cold out ..LOL
Yup up here in central Alberta has been flipping cold I would love to go and see how cold it gets there
I giggle at your heating system if it's minus 18 in your house 🥶 😂
It can reach minus 20-27 in some parts here in the UK. A few years ago it was about minus 10-18 for a few weeks.
@@FoxesAfloat coldest I've been here is minus 35 to 50 in Cold Lake Alberta for couple of weeks when I was posted to the base there.
@@FoxesAfloat opps missed that comma LOL
As Auntie Flo's mother would say "it's chilly, without your muff."

This was a stunning Vlog. Maybe it was the overcast clouds, but the video was really beautiful. The soundtrack was great also. I hope you release a second soundtrack of this season's journey.

Great! I will look into it. I bought the first release and love it. It is my walking companion, driving companion, well...all around music to escape by.
All the best for 2021 lads .
Happy New Year!
I couldn't resist and bought the small membership to support you. Every little helps, I think.
