- Pressing up into central kentucky, we find our way to the Richmond Mall, a dead mall hidden in the hills. Although killed off by a lifestyle center, the mall still remains as a haven for mall walkers.

Thanks for this Doomie. I remain fascinated by malls, dead, alive and anything in between. I live across the pond in the UK where malls generally do well and mostly lack that 80s and 90s vibe about them. So I watch your videos to get my nostalgia hit. Thanks!
Polished those floors as a student at EKU.
Man...this mall holds alot of memories, like K.B toys and such, me and my friends use to hang out at the arcade after watching a movie, I got my first kiss from a girl I liked when I was like 12 on the steps leading up to the old food court. I prefer this mall better then that other area, so sad seeing it like this.
4:07 that’s the dance studio my mother owns today❤
I remember when this mall was alive and thriving, so sad
Use to date someone in Richmond so used to visit often.. never knew Richmond had a “mall” 🤷🏼♂️
Also got pulled over on the Richmond bypass going 90 something mph ((I was in a bigggg hurry and there was like no one on the bypass at the moment)) but any who, the cop gave me a WARNING! I couldn’t believe it!! Lol
Please come to parkway plaza mall in Madisonville Kentucky. It's been there since 1980. I remember seeing it open it's doors two weeks after my birthday. Now I'm sixty and the mall is forty years old.
I remember the blog Labelscar once did an entry, on Parkway Plaza. Hopefully Doomie gets there, down the road.
I remeber going here as a kid, they use to have an arcade and theater
As a lover of the 1980s, I sort of like this little mall. It doesn't even have its own Wikipedia page.
I love doomie grunt
Owensboro KY has a mall thats about dead enough for a video.
Relaxing mall and stop in for a Dr. Teal douch.
I liked the tables and chairs in the center of most of the corridor in lieu of kiosks. It almost gave the mall a bit of a cozy look.
I live in Murfreesboro TN and the same developers were building a mall here then as well. Sears, Walmart, Goody's, and a never built Anderson's were to be the anchors. The anchors changed over the years. Years later a lifestyle center came but they opened with Belk as the only department store. So now the old mall has a pretty busy Dillard's and JCPenney but the inside is virtually empty. Very strange. This mall reminds me of how our mall used to look.
Was that the same Anderson's chain, that used to be in a lot of places in Ohio? Such as having one store, at the now closed(and I think demolished too, if I recall correctly) Woodville Mall outside of Toledo, OH.
@@BoratWanksta Sorry, I'm not sure at all. I know it was reported as a junior department store and it was based in Owensboro Kentucky.
Good video. I thought the mall was kind of plain looking. Thanks for filming.
Two dead mall hallmarks in the same corridor: Mall Church (possibly defunct) and a government office (DMV). At least it's clean and appears maintained.
Omg it looks so weird
I dance here there’s a studio in the mall CATS I live near there
I used to go to this mall every weekend around 2000-2006. I have so many memories in this place. I went there today and walked around. It's very sad, to see how empty it is. Every Friday and saturday it was packed.
Glad u do I am 8 so I dance there
The Walmart took up the Bargain Hunt and the empty storefront next to it. It was pretty big for a normal (non-supercenter Walmart). One problem the mall always had was the corridor leading from Walmart almost all the way to the center court was empty from the get-go. It was just a long, dark walk to Walmart. Goody's was the same way for a long time. There was an empty corridor leading from center court to the store that never leased. Eventually Goody's expanded all the way out to center court. (I could talk about this mall all day!)
You sure know how to find these properties, this place was a real treat to see. Hastings was a great store back in the day. Vintage Stock or 2nd and Charles are the best comparisons available in 2021. Vintage Stock actually took over some Hastings locations and made very few changes.
Half Price Books feels a little like 2nd and Charles or Hastings(now closed), IMO. I think the only difference is that as I vaguely remember you could rent certain movies at Hastings, and you can't do that at HPB or(from the one store of theirs I ever went to) 2&C.
If you eliminated government subsidies, most of the businesses left in these malls, which are minority owned and run, the malls would all be pretty much empty and ready to close.
Koki: Lexington, Kentucky 4/2/17
Does this place have any upper floors.
I am wondering where did you get your information from exactly. I am doing a paper for class on the Rise and Fall of the Richmond Mall.
I had to make do with insight from other retail nerds, as well as checking online articles for information.
If you have a means to get the membership, newspapers.com pulled through for me where other sources failed.
Thanks! This was my college mall when I went to college in Richmond in the early 90s. As you correctly stated most everyone around there preferred to go to Lexington to shop. I'm curious, did you happen to make it down to Somerset Mall on your Ky trip as it is only about an hour and a half from Lexington. That is my hometown mall.
Somerset Mall, as well as Cumberland Regional Mall are in the archives. They may be a few weeks out from the schedule, though.
@@DoomieGruntVentures You just made my day!
I don't see many places of commerce in there? I guess you can get the tags for your car though?
It is bad when B&BW can't make it
It is a far cry from what it once was, yeah.
How do we get the CMDO94 - 3000 song and/or name of song at 5:50 mark???
The track is part of an album by CMD094 titled "Lost" Plenty of moody ambience that ties malls like these together.
Wow.. that is one empty mall ... and to me it’s not giving off good vibes ....you have to ask is it worth staying opening ?
Me and my family have said it should be the new high school, over 2000 kids in one school and the other high school already has over 1000. It’s big enough to be a medium to small sized high school in the very center of the city but the schools would be unwilling as it would mess with the sports team.
Your the first one to get it on camera!
How dose it feel?
Not being mean
There have been a fair number of malls out there I've been the first to cover. Although the jury is out on this one since someone else out there is insistent on being my competitor.
First!
