  • Beyond Celiac spoke with Australian researcher Dr. Jason Tye-Din about a few of the controversies in celiac disease. In this Town Hall, moderated by Director of Scientific Affairs Amy Ratner and Director of Research and Patient Engagement Kate Avery, MPH, Dr. Tye-Din discusses the safety of eating oats, a potential blood test that doesn’t require the gluten challenge, and monitoring adherence to the gluten-free diet with GIP tests.

I tried introducing purity oats here in Canada 7 months ago . Around that time I triggered my DH and have been flaring since. I can’t say for sure that it was the Oats but this is only the 2nd major DH I have had in 8 years since my Celiac diagnosis. I assume that minor contaminations which of course happens routinely is not enough to cause this severe of a flare. I either ate something with a good amount of gluten or my body reacted to the Oats. Perhaps a study on Oats with people who have DH would help to shed some light. The good thing about DH is that it can’t be confused for something else. It’s very conclusive and easy to biopsy.

I am hearing challenged and lost the captions early so this was of no value.
