Do these “pundits” even realize why Palmer was particularly effective last night? He was playing centrally in place of Enzo, not out wide. Saka is a straight up wide player. If anything, the real conversation should be about dropping Bellingham deeper with Rice and having Foden or Palmer playing in the middle. Lazy analysis.
Agree with you that these aren't the best pundits however why would you change Bellingham's position when he has arguably been the best player in the world this season in his current position, that doesn't make much sense either. Also Rory did mention the possibility of Bellingham dropping deeper which again I do not agree with.
@@MarkLukeFarrell because you can't play everyone in the 10 position and you need to make choices based on what is best for the team. Bellingham can play deeper as we have seen it before.

Bellingham exceeded expectations for Madrid in the first half of the season but his goalscoring form has decreased significantly over the last few weeks because that was never his intended role in the team in the first place. I think that the only reason Ancelotti has been using him as a 10 is mainly because he has too many solid options in central midfield such as Valverde, Kroos, Modric, Camavinga and Tchouameni, so he decided to play Bellingham in a more advanced position because of his tenacity and willingness to drive the ball forward and make things happen, but his best position is still as an 8, imo.
What is it with this obsession with English and thinking we should try and fit all our number 10's in the starting 11?

If you consider Englands assets you probably play Foden, Palmer and Saka. Last couple England tournaments Saka has been quality. This season though behind both.

Palmer has played on the right wing 90% season. He does tend to drift in whilst Gusto hits in the crosses.

Saka is playing for a team where teams just play the low block and put three players on Saka.
Take Palmer’s pens away and the goals they have both scored are pretty much the same.
Saka brings other attributes palmer hasn’t got.
Listen to Dan Burn on this who has played against both. He states that Saka is the most consistent player has come up against.

Palmer wouldn't replace Saka, they dont play the same position. I get it, anytime someone starts doing well they get compared to Saka but if Palmer replaces anyone it would be Maddison or Foden. Palmer is a 10 an attacking midfielder who isnt great defensively or at tracking back so playing him on the wings out of position would be a waste of his talent
There's no doubt his number are great for Chelsea but I doubt if he can replicate that in big games for England, four goals vs struggling Everton should he have done this against the likes of City and Liverpool then I wouldn't doubt him for England. I still think his good for Chelsea not for England form is temporary Class is permanent, he still have a long way to go to prove himself. I would still drop him for Marcus.

Cole Palmer is good, but let's be honest... if this was the Abramovich era Palmer would never have played because the team was too good! He is currently a big fish in a very, very small pond, which has not been normal for Chelsea over the past 15 years. He should go to Euro 24, but he doesn't play with any discipline (positioning) or structure (tactical IQ) at Chelsea and in tight games he is best off the bench to inject energy when nothing else is working. International football is different to club football, and if Pep let him go, there is a reason. He chose Messi over Ronaldinho. Messi was 21 and Ronaldinho was 28 (in his peak). Rory Jennings you are not serious. Did you say charity shield is a BIG GAME??? Palmer is a good player but this is typical DELUSIONAL HYPE by English pundits. It is one thing scoring against a mediocre team like Everton it is a totally different game playing against France, Belgium, Spain etc. Saka is ahead of Palmer. Also you are not God so you cannot predict Maduaeke's future. He has scored many crucial goals. Palmer went missing in the league cup?
9 of Cole Palmer's 20 goals are penalties, and penalties are things he relies on others to win and things which plenty of people in the England team can already take, so you would be an idiot to think he is better than Foden or Saka or at the same level as them when their goals are scored in open play which is much harder and the expected challenge at the Euros. So his goals are more realistically 11 and that will show in the following seasons and the rest of his career which will not see so many penalty taking opportunities and certainly not for England. As for his 9 assists at least 4 of those are registered assists that should not be there because they were unintended as he lost control of the ball and Sterling took it and skillfully dribbled a few players then scored from a distance, he took a shot that was going far wide of the goal and then Jackson skillfully deflected the ball towards the goal and in another 2 occasions he saw a low block with a wall of defenders in front of him and made a fifteen yard pass to Madueke who had the same wall in front of him and taking responsibility skillfully found a way through to score. So his assist are more realistically 5. If you think a player with 11 goals and 5 assist is better than or more deserving to go to the Euros than Saka or Foden, you must be out of your mind. And I'm not even talking about the selfishness, deceitfulness, and petulance he injects into a team as a bad influence while playing the innocent, or the defensive liability he has been to the Chelsea defensive set up as a team. If he is taken to the Euros, England are definitely not getting past the quarter finals even if he does not play a game. You get nasty players who do things in games against the opposition, but he saves his nastiness for his team mates and the game he wants to win is the game of attention ahead of his team mates, not the game of football against the opposition and so does not care if the team loses as long as he looks good.
