The Riggory of Drag Race UK 2

  • NOTE: Saying Lawrence got dragged to the end was messy and I don’t actually believe that. I should have just said Ellie instead of lumping them together. My apologies! Remember I’m a stupid American who think we know everything when we really don’t ♥️
    Remember, this is a reality show, and the producers are just trying to make the most interesting stories that they can. No hate to the queens, producers, or Ru (except for the fracking)
    Let me know in the comments below what you think was the biggest example of riggory in UK2!

    The Scottish Drag thing is very very important because it’s a whole country that wasn’t represented in the season despite calling it drag race UK. The dominance of English queens is pretty annoying when you’re scottish if you’re going to call it UK Drag Race... then please have a mix of queens. Otherwise you could just call it Drag Race England

    • @lukegillespie242
      @lukegillespie242 Před 3 lety +15

      I can sort of empathise with that but at the same time sometimes it feels like Scottish people always feel like they’re being victimised for no reason. You don’t see Welsh people complaining that Ru didn’t like tayce or that we needed a Welsh winner. We also have to remember that Scotland has a population smaller than London alone, so of course they’re going to be less represented. Isay this as a Scot myself and sometimes I’m embarrassed seeing Scottish people be so high-and-mighty over English and American people. See many comments in this comments section for examples.

    • @86wellacre
      @86wellacre Před 3 lety +7

      The whole of the UK is important, representation from England would naturally be higher as the population is almost 10 times that of Scotland’s. I think some people are tired of this overarching theme that Scotland is somehow dictated to by England when it’s not. Not every season will be the same, for example no Northern Irish queens this season.

    Cherry was robbed. Michelle pointed out how she looked unsure of herself during the Rusical when it was literally part of her act. Ellie messed up her lines in the performance but was saved and Cherry was thrown into the bottom for literally no reason. She's so talented and kind, it was so upsetting to see her get eliminated when she shouldn't have been in the bottom in the first place. Her runyways for the other categories were INSANE and would've knocked all the other girls out of the park. Regardless of how talented you're, if you aren't giving production anything to work with storyline-wise, you're disposable. I get that it's a reality show at the end of the day, but it's so frustrating to see amazing artists get pushed aside because they're not giving us drama or some overproduced character arc.

      @@balladeer9384 Thing is, those queens you mentioned were either perceived to kill it in the finale (Sasha/Viv/Monet), had huge momentum going into the finale (Yvie's standout Rumix), or had overwhelming fan support (Shea) by the time the crowning aired (emphasis on *perceived* here). They all had at least two of those three. Laurence arguably didn't have any (which is absolutely not her fault at all; she could have joint or even solo won the prior acting challenge or been given a better edit during the stand-up--A'whora mentioned in an interview that Laurence's set was better than what was shown in the episode...). For whatever reason, production decided to give her no momentum (instead, a huge focus on her edit being angry at Ellie over something silly... why?) but planned to crown her anyway. Her entire edit in the second half of the season was mishandled and that's why her win was a lot more divisive than it should have been.
      Even the judges gave her negative critiques for her performance in the finale (even if it was intended to be endearing?). Odd choices overall.
      I think this is what the video should have focused a lot more on. It's not that Laurence didn't deserve to win, but failures in production choices almost made it *seem* like she didn't. That's a huge problem and it hasn't been this bad in a season before.
      In the end they had many good reasons to crown her. First plus-sized winner, opportunity for a Scottish winner (which they may not have for a looong time... S3 has only English queens last I checked), Laurence openly not wanting to ever do all-stars while Bimini is the opposite, Laurence being better suited for the prize etc etc... Her win makes complete sense. It was production that was shoddy; Laurence herself was *not* the problem.

They don't understand the local drag culture or generally UK culture and wider European culture (eventhough Michelle thinks she understands them very well). Ru doesn't even understand what the contestants say, so how could she be proper judge for this show? I'm sure the producers are toning down some cultural challenges so that the judges can understand them better. BeastEnders was surprisingly on point but the RuRuvision challenge lacked lot of possible Eurovision references (and why the lipsync wasn't Eurovision song??)

    Lawrence wasn’t the worst in the finale

      Bimini was called safe before Lawrence. So, the true placements for that episode (even tho I don’t agree) are: Bimini - safe; Lawrence - Low. Lawrence stood there with the bottom 2 queens and Bimini was called safe before Lawrence

      @@ewanxo But the critiques don’t change anything, I agree that Bimini should be low, but she was safe and Lawrence was on the bottom 3 that stood on the stage. We have to go by what rupaul said and she said safe to Bimini and put Lawrence in the bottom 3

    I'm surprised that with all your UK helpers none explained to you why Scottish representation in general and on Series 2 was important. I'm honestly disappointed that you spent the entire video degrading Lawrence's wins for no reason only to try and wash your hands in the end.
    Lawrence didn't win as many times as Bimini but she deserved all her wins all the same. Her first design look definitely deserved to be in the top and win. You also can't just mention that A'Whora had an entire storyline about not being anything but beautiful only to ignore it to perpetuate the idea that Lawrence robbed her of a win when it came back in full force. A'Whora was phenonemal in Morning Glory but Lawrence's runway was both more true to the brief, and better than A'Whora's.
    I had hope thay this channel would be better than Uckey Lee and the toxic veiled racism there but I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong.

    I think this season had a lot in common with DRCanada in that it was sort of fantastic despite itself. Questionable judging, frustrating favoritism, and heavy-handed storylines, but the cast was just so darn talented and lovable that the season was good anyway. I seriously think UK2 is one of the best, strongest casts of any Drag Race franchise, ever.

    sister got dumbed aside so much by the producers to the point where people forget her which is so awful. for example, she was in the bottom 3 on the ruruvision episode for what reason? like what? she performed that the best and also had the a better runway than ellie’s so like what? make it make sense drag race😩🤚

    I honestly think Sister was robbed. She’s one of my favourites on this season, and she received so many negative critiques which were completely unjustified. Imo, the only bottom 2/3 placement she deserved was in the talk show episode. For me, she was safe in week 1, didn’t deserve critiques (for the challenge) on the ruruvision, for Snatch Game she should have been top 2, and honestly, she shouldn’t have been anywhere near the bottom 2 on the lockdown supersheroes challenge. I thought her look was good, yes it was very busy, but it was well made and had a great concept, which can’t be said for Lawrence or (unfortunately) Bimini. She could have won so many challenges, but like it was said, she was a non-entity on the season, and was basically a safe bet to lose whenever, kind of like Cherry. Basically production just shat on her the entire season, and the queens all came for her, sometimes undeservingly. Also, A’Whora’s attack on her was so unnecessary. Yes she did sort of copy the look, but still at least she had the thought to change it. That altercation made A’Whora my least favourite queen on the season by far.
