Even though Monét said she had studied opera singing, I still did not expect her to be this good for some reason. What a powerful, amazing performance, gave me literal goosebumps. Also, a nice palette cleanser after all these lipsyncs. And Raja deserves props too, her performance was beautiful as well, and you can tell it meant a lot to her.
True!! Because that performance was not just a reflection of formal education, but a reflection of her gift as a performer. She proved that she has the ability to do a showstopper performance by just standing still and sharing her heart through her beautiful voice

Looked like Monet and Jinkx were the only ones singing live.
Monet sounded very good but I wish she had not held the mic so close. A real opera singer would have held it a couple of feet away because when they perform in an actual opera house they use NO MICs! They can project to the whole house without one, which is why live opera is the greatest music to hear live. BTW in musical theater performers do use mics because of all the talking they have to do.
@@wyheadintx this can also really depend on the acoustics of the space. I've seen many videos of opera singers holding mics close in a recording studio or an outdoor venue.
I was reading that production insisted on them recording the tracks, because it makes it easier to mix the show in post. I directed a live musical performance once, and it’s actually really difficult so I don’t blame them. However, both Jinkx and Monet did a great job recording while already in the competition.

That's actually why I was surprised by how AMAZING her performance was, because if she could do THIS, why is this the first time she is showcasing it. Unbelievable talent. I'm glad we got to see it, she would have deprived us. How dare she.

I think it's the phenomena of watching a drag Queen on drag Race, performing it, which is a nice memory refresh of the many times a gender bending expression has been seen through what we perceive as an artform (like the Greeks who did drag back in the day through theatre).
But it's biased. I do remember Gia Gunn getting no recognition from the judges because she comes across as shady

Raja and Monet were the best in this segment. I really appreciate Raja’s performance, it was so rich in terms of movement and visuals, the garment she was wearing was so beautiful, it took my breath away.
After watching so many other temple dances with professionals or experienced dancers, Rajas dance seems way off… it was beautiful but she just didn’t have the skills. I don’t think we should award something that was executed wrong just because it gives representation. She did look beautiful tho

Yvie still did such a good job despite how hard it is for her to move now. I hope she knows we’ll still love her whether she can bend and flip or not. We will still love her even if she has to preform in a chair or on a bed. I hope she knows we don’t just love her for her gymnastics abilities, but for HER. If we wanted gymnastics we would watch the Olympics. The reason we love Yvie is because of the person behind the tricks.
Truth!! What she gives and is giving living through her incredible pain is awe inspiring! I could tell that just showing up to this season was almost too much for her. She wrote a long note about how she originally planned to do a no-hand backflip but her body was so exhausted by the end of the competition that on the first take she went for it and didn’t land it. she landed on her head/shoulder/neck and basically scared the hell out of rupaul 😭 so she took it easier on the second take that was aired. that’s the last time she has attempted it since
When I first saw Raja's talent I was underwhelmed, because I had never seen this dance before. But I researched it, learned about it, watched other videos of the dance being performed, and I came away with a much deeper appreciation for it, and for her choice to perform it in an authentic way. She took this opportunity to expose the public to part of her heritage and to be that kind of ambassador. and THAT, in itself, is its own talent.

The way my jaw DROPPED when Monet began to sing 😱❤️ What an unbelievable performance. So cool to see it done on the main stage while wearing impeccable drag. Monet, Raja and Yvie were the top 3 of the night for me. Excellent showcase of diverse talent.
Underrated moment of the episode: Yvie’s dancer perfectly imitating her movements. We would not have believed that was Yvie had he moved normally.
I feel like there isn't much appreciation for Yvie doing all this while having her condition. That takes A LOT.

Raja's background music was so mesmerizing. I've never seen balinese dancing before. There's art in it. I felt a profound feeling from the fluttering of the fan and the movements of the dancer.

Raja was one of the first instances of representation I felt as a southeast Asian on mainstream television, so her being able to share her culture and story on the show really warms my heart and inspires me ❤️

It was Raja, Jinkxxie and Monet for me. Raja for the culture and uniqueness and the passion. Jinxxie and especially Monet for how goddamn hard it is to sing like that even without a corset and drag.
You got me for 2 outta 3, Monet, Jinxx, Shea. But Raja's story was very sweet & tearful
This season was the best. No one was lacking and they were giving it all and letting folks know why there were the winners of their season.
Shea Coulee's performance and song!!! Ugh, HUNTY!!! WE WEREN'T READY!!! SHE CAME, SHE SERVED, SHE ATE!!! Shea Coulee's "Your Name" is the song of the Summer for me!!! IT'S SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!! Definitely the best performance of the night. Also, yes Monet's voice and performance made me cry 🥺 it was beautiful!!!

Side note: Even though sometimes its a little off putting when we don't know who the guest judge is, this guest judge was really nice and I hope she comes back again. She had a great energy and showed how much she cared about everyone's art and performance.

But the people who stood out to me were: Raja for that BEAUTIFUL traditional dance of Indonesia, Shea Coulee's song ACTUALLY SOUNDING LIKE SOMETHING YOU COULD HEAR ON THE RADIO RIGHT NOW & Monet's operatic song! Damn, this ALMOST makes me want to subscribe to Paramount to see this! LOL!
As an Indonesian, seeing Raja talk about her Indonesian heritage so much this season and even do a BALINESE DANCE!?

Monét doing opera may very well be the best thing we’ve seen on drag race

Opera singers are often corseted (with made to measure ones), as it not only helps with breath support, but also posture. The impressive here is watching a full blown male voice coming out of this beautiful looking woman. That image was visually powerful.

The corset is actually to her advantage, as already pointed out.
This Drag Variety format should be it's own show. Contestants of RPDR are given a budget and a few months to create a performance and wins go to charity. I bet a lot more people would watch This than all the other similar shows! Each week different queens, no eliminations just entertainment.

That's what local drag queens do. The Empress Jose Sarria of the Imperial Court of San Francisco would put on shows sometimes performing opera (in parody) and raise funds for uniforms for the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band.

Raja was incredible and for me it came down between her and Shea for the 2nd spot with Monét.
It broke my heart not seeing Raja in the top 4 but at the same time, Shea was just so sharp and professional with her movements. I'm a huge Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson fan and lemme tell you, IDENTICAL.
But the cultural talents always get shafted and that upsets me because Gia and Raja were both the most hypnotizing talents with rich History

This has been such a great season and not just for the crazy, wild and professional talent but for how positive the competitors have been with each other. While I don't know what may be on the edit room floor I do want to thank EVERYONE for this season's messaging of mutual joy, respect and friendship with the Queens! Drag Race reached a whole new level!
I’m not someone who likes fighting, so I’ve really enjoyed this season. I don’t like seeing people being miserable to each other because it makes me feel miserable, and there’s drama enough in competing at this high a level.

Again, like with snatch game or roasts, I wish they gave the queens more time. Like all these performances are great but condensed into a minute and few seconds, it feels like they could have given way more and let their talent shine.

I saw Raja's performance,,, and I can't help to feel proud of her for trying to dance Bali's traditional dance. The shoulders form is difficult, I've tried and never got it all those years ago, even got a beating from my Mum HAHAHA (she's the dancer in the family). Love you, Raja!!!
All fabulous...I just have to point out that Monet is giving an operatic performance while tucked and fully CORSETED. As a vocalist (and occasionally corseted historical reenactor), I know exactly how much breath and diaphragm control is required to get that tone quality. When your body is that sickeningly snatched it is like trying to breathe through a vice - OUCH and DAMN girl! That was splendid!
Monet, this was maybe the best talent show ever. I’m so glad she saved this for all winners and didn’t do it on regular all stars.

I think this Talent Show was incredible. My personal highlights are: Jaida, Shea, Monét and Raja. Jaida passed me the vibe check. We all know she's not a singer, but her lyrics and outfit were on POINT. Shea choreographed beautifully, every single movement achieved perfection! Monét... oh my dear Monét, that diaphragm control!!! And she looked gorgeous!!! Raja was great and their show should receive more appreciation, because it was so risky to do such a different talent.
But really, all the girls did amazing!

RAJA????? The backstory and look was BEAUTIFUL. But the actual TALENT was 3/10. If any other girl did that on a regular season they'd lipsync for their life. She did one "move". @@trentgomez they did a cultural dance, which most of us don't actually have a knowledge or access prior to the show. and they represented a cultural background (Indonesian) that usually is not represented in mainstream media. the talent itself may be not appreciated, but it's a gate opener to the viewers to their culture and that should be praised

It's been difficult watching her get favored on All Stars 7 though because all of the Queens already have legacies as winners & really outshined her in some of the challenges they gave her a win for. I'd be happy with anyone winning, but Monét is my pick for Queen of Queens & Raja is my choice for Queen of She Already Done Had Herses! ❤Such a great season. I love that we had a non-profit showcase this episode as well & the Queens got to perform what they wanted & not just another Main Challenge. I got emotional this episode because it's probably the last time we'll see most, if not all, of these Queens on a competitive season of Drag Race! 💔

I worked with opera companies for years and it was such a pleasure going to rehearsals listening to professionals sing beautiful works of art every day (except dark days). It was such a treat for Monét to bring opera to the mainstage. I got misty eyed hearing Monét's melodic tones and vocal training. Made my artistic black girl band geek theatre nerd self gleefully happy. 😊💙🖤✨
I'm so happy that Raja and Monet chose to do what they did. So unique and especially super close to both of them. Raja got to really showcase her background and culture for the true first time on the show and Monet finally let herself open up and allowed us to not only see her, but feel her full self. Bravo!!!
My favorites were Raja, Shea, and Monet! This season these queens are literally showing the worthiness of their crown props to all of them!

I have to say... Jinkx, Raja, and Monet were the stars of this talent show. Everyone else just lip sync to an original song where their voices had edits done to them. These three queens presented their raw talent in three very different ways/mediums to everyone else, whereas all of the other performances felt way too similar and doing something that isn't all that special, since lip syncing isn't exactly a new talent to showcase here hahaha. Jinkx, Raja, and Monet really stepped up to the bar.

I do agree but I also wanna point out that Shea also did choreo so she wasn't just lip syncing so I'd put her in as well. It's not new, you're right but Jinkx's talent which was singing isn't new either.
There was nothing impressive about Jinkx's singing this go around. It was middle of the road, there is a reason she was not in the top.

Have you seen these comments, boo? Did you see the things her peers and the judges said? Just because someone doesn’t win doesn’t mean they’re not appreciated. I live in Asia, so I appreciate Raja’s performance, but Raja fans keep doing the most. This is an All Winners season. They’re all good AF. But the judges made their choices, and they didn’t choose those undeserving either. Stop.

drag race used to be about showing yourself and your culture. now you can “show” it by acting like a sterotype ir show it in a mainstream “excitable” way. it’s so sad cause even if i don’t particularly like gia or raja they very clearly ate. the judges just didn’t get it
Raja did something that we haven't seen before, but she didn't do it very well technically speaking. That's probably why she didn't win. If she had both the message she had and a great perfomance, there would be no stopping her.
And don't remind me of Gia's robbery. She on the other hand had both the bautiful message and a great perfomance. I'll never understand why she wasn't in the top for that.

The case is: it required tons of skills do to it right.
Raja just didn't have any skills. She was not able to do ANY of the moves the dance requires. She was just walking around the stage. What she did was more a parody of a temple dance.
i'm glad monet was able to knock this week out of the ball park as she definitely could have won more before this. this week she definitely was the best out of the bunch and earned her finale spot. not only for the performance this week but i would say she did well during the whole competition too.
Back again and every single time, Monet’s performance takes my breath away. Seriously. Her opera singing is so beautiful, and as a fellow classically trained musician, I KNOW she put in so many hours of practice (maybe even 40 hours a day, if you know you know). Her win this episode is so well deserved. Also, if anyone hasn’t seen yet, she uploaded a full version to her CZcams channel, and y’all need to go listen. It’s gorgeous, especially without a corset hindering her (which, btw, makes this performance even more amazing. Opera singers, to my knowledge, use their diaphragm a LOT more than pop singers. They sing from the belly, which cinchers and corsets severely restrict. The fact that she was able to sing like this with a corset on is just triple proof of her skill).
Oh wow, I cried listening to Monet. I knew she could sing but she doesn't n normally sing in that register. Everyone was so talented. I didn't know Shea could sing like that. Loved Yvie coming out of the box and talking about her disability. Jinx's vocals, Vivienne's all on point. I loved everyone.

I have mixed feelings about the 3 stars this challenge but Shea and Monét killed it. A well-deserved win for them indeed.

I don't. It was the final challenge. These are all winners. Whoever won the final challenge got automatic entry into the finale. That seems fair to me. I just wish Trinity and Jaida got to face off for the final spot instead of Monét picking, but I'm also happy for the alliance actually mattering lol
