NIN is more of an Industrial Metal band. If you want something harder, try some songs from their earlier albums "Pretty Hate Machine", "Broken", or "The Downward Spirial". You might also like their song "We're in this Together" although it's not as hard but still an awesome song. Btw, Trent Reznor aka the one man band, the lead singer of NIN is the man that discovered Marilyn Manson.
I'm Afraid of Americans or Perfect Drug. They may be 'mainstream' as far as NIN goes but I think they portray long haired Trentness exceptionally well.
NIN did become a little more pop-sounding as he got older, so if you want harder, I agree with everyone who suggests stuff he did earlier such as Head Like a Hole, or Closer. You might also like Starfuckers, Inc. You might also want Ministry or Stabbing Westward, two other Industrial bands with a lot of gritty noise and screaming. For the super hard, and just fucking weird, I suggest The Cramps, or Foetus. Well, Cramps is more hardcore rockabilly, but they are weird. Garbage Man or Human Fly are good ones to start with. They don't yell, but Foetus does.
Finally some NIN! A lot of suggestions for Head Like A Hole, Wish, Last, Happiness in Slavery, Closer etc. I would like to have a reaction of 'We're In This Together' .
Manson and NIN back to back?? Hell yeah Alex. This was actually my first NIN song too (back when it was a new single in 2005). I highly recommend checking out older NIN material. Songs like "Closer", "Head Like a Hole", and "Down In It" would be fantastic. I know you'll love all three. One day you need to react to their performance at Woodstock '94. The aggression of young Trent in a live setting will give you goosebumps.
"Wish" won a Grammy for NIN, not an Emmy. It was an over-reaction by the Grammy Academy after flute playing Jethro Tull won the hard rock category the year before. That caused some outrage and the Grammies tried to split hard rock and heavy metal into 2 different awards the next year.
This was a bit into their career.. their earlier work is definitely heavier.. and are very deserving of a deeper dive into. Hurt, Head Like A Hole, Reptile. And many many others.
