    Great Video, Had a new board installed a week ago. AC worked flawless all day long on the first outing. Turned the AC temp up as it was turning into a meat locker. AC turned back on and the trouble began. I have a basement AC with two compressors. Compressor one would buzz and two would turn on. Found your video after talking to Winnebago about the issue. They said it was a stuck relay switch. Your video confirmed the issue. Now the big question. The board has to have a warranty on it. Labor to install the new board is the question. Thanks for the video.

    Great video man. Here it is the 5th of August 2023 and your video is still the first one that covers this repair to fix my ac unit with the same symptoms as yours. I sorta figured that was the problem with mine but wasnt wanting to pay $224.00 for a new control board. But anyway thanks for the video because its going to help out alot of people. My unit was humming or buzzing like yours was and only way to cut the ac off was at the breaker box. The thermostat wouldn't cut it off. Thanks again.

    I'm pretty sure this is my issue as well.. Ive got a hum when I cut it off at the wall and have to turn it off at the breaker to get it to turn off. I also hear clicking not all the time but when I do its a lot of clicking. Ive been having to turn it on and off to keep it from freezing up and freezing us out.. we're full-time and the summer was too brutal to try and go without while trying to figure out what was wrong.. Its been a pain searching online( as you know), nothing has matched our issue and a huge checklist of what it could be. I had pretty much decided that if I had to replace everything in that list, I might as well buy a new unit. However, we will be in our house sometime next summer, and I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. I figured I would search the internet one more time.. and voila there you were. You did a great job explaining everything and I feel confident that this is it..
    Thanks so much for posting this video..!!

  • @patrickdenisemodrell6495

    Just a little diagram 101- the K-4 relay is the compressor relay and the "NO" stands for "Normally Open". The lower right grouping is the 6 pin connector from the control box to the compressor/fan on top. Blue is compressor, black is high fan, red is low fan, with is neutral for compressor/fan, green-yellow is ground. And i'd bet you do have a furnace.

    Hey. Many thanks for this video. Last trip, we pulled in, plugged in and the Compressor would not fire. Turned the system on and off about 10 times and then it turned over and stayed cool for the whole trip. By the sounds of this video, the relay switch is sticking and likely unstuck itself. Sounds like I should order a board just to have on hand in the event the sticky switch fails completely.

    • @RamblinMichigander
      @RamblinMichigander  Před rokem +2

      Yes, that’s definitely a possibility. The other thing that causes the compressor to not turn on is the capacitor failing. But I believe the capacitors pretty much either work or fail completely so it’s prob not your issue.

    I have this same air conditioner in my 2000 Hitchhiker II fifth wheel. Mine will do the same thing as yours but if I shut off the breaker and back on again the compressor is off. It may act up again on the next cycle or be fine for several days. Lately it's been getting worse. The fact that my relay does shut off with power loss makes me wonder if it could be a thermostat problem. Does that seem possible to you?

    • @RamblinMichigander
      @RamblinMichigander  Před rokem +1

      I’m not an expert but no, that doesn’t sound like thermostat. That sounds like a relay that is sticking but not constantly like mine was. But things like that always get worse. I suggest replacing it asap. If the compressor runs for very long without the rest of the AC unit operating, it could cause damage to the compressor or, I hear, even start a fire. Not worth taking that risk for avoid paying for a $100-ish part.

    I wonder how much that board was. The relay is probably in the $10 region and should be a common type available in AutoZone. And yes, anyone with a little bit of soldering skill could swap it in 10min. Good skill to have.

    • @RamblinMichigander
      @RamblinMichigander  Před 2 lety +1

      With overnight shipping it was about $110. Yes, I could’ve saved money by having a new relay put on, but I just didn’t have the time. I needed it fixed to be ready for my trip. Plus there are other things on that 20 year old board that could’ve gone bad later. Better to just replace the whole thing.
