Long time whiskey drinker here, new to rum. I've heard good things about Foursquare and decided to try the ECS 2011, which is a 12 year rum aged in ex-bourbon barrels. I was blown away. It can definitely compete with top tier whiskey and I will be seeking out more.

I have always kept shelfer rums on hand as mixers for quick, crowd pleasing cocktails. After seeing an inerview with the Rolling Fork guys I bought their 11 year, 110 proof rum. Really enjoy it neat. Thanks for the informative video!

Love rum. Will need to pick up a bottle of Foursquare. Love the Bardstown FS finished

Love the Foursquare! It does make an easy transition when coming from whiskey. The newest Exeptional Cask is the Equipoise. It used ex-Calvados brandy casks along with the usual ex-bourbon. Was $160 and twenty more than I paid for Touchstone but its good. Its really really good.

Can’t go wrong with Foursquare but they are so expensive. Another option I like is Grander. It’s a Panama Rum. Especially if you can find a store pick. My favorite is 10yr Party Source pick finished in Woodford Cask for 11 months

As good as Barbados rum is, there are some other providers of rum that are doing great things. In America, Old Line, Maggie's Farm, Richland Rum, and Privateer are doing great things. Outside America, Mauritius and Australia have some good rums. If you can ever find the high end Amrut rums, highly recommended. El Dorado has some great single barrel rum from Guyana. Rum is a whole other rabbit hole.

I just tried a Puerto Rican rum called Ron del Barrilito, big fan. Aged in ex-sherry. Going to grab A bottle.

Thanks for covering! Keep the rum education coming. I completely understand the value of no additives, but for a first sipping rum purchase, anything out there for day $60 or less, even it is not entirely pure? Something to simply dabble in. If a rum comes from Barbados, is it only sourced from Four Square? Cheers!

There are others like Mount Gay but Four Square is the only one I have seen doing single barrels and sourcing. For less, RL Seale’s or Real McCoy are two brands to keep an eye out for. Big difference will be proof. Lots of the “cheaper” rums are 80 to 86 proof where we lean more barrel strength with many of the rums we love.

Jeff Did you try 4sq 2008? See it locally for 85 and never pick it up as not sure how many liquors I want to dive into.

Yes! I would buy that again for $85 in a heartbeat. Those releases are getting harder to find and more expensive.

I say get that before it's gone. That one is from about 3 years ago and the srp's are over $100 now.
I was at a taco bar last year and saw a 2007 loitering on the shelf. Maybe 4 oz left. Never had it but a pour was $12 so I tried it. Hot damn! Killed that bottle and wished I could find one for myself. It was incredibly flavorful despite the low fill level and still plenty punchy with it's proof. I daydream about that one from time to time 😆
