My take on why and how: since we are all connected to and with, and coming out of nature, and manifestations of, we'll say, universal intelligence, that intelligence communicates to some of us how to access these tools of spiritual awakening found in nature. Why? Because Awakening is our purpose, so of course there would be a communication mechanism in reality for us to have a hunch to discover these tools.
