- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is on Trump’s shortlist for potential running mates. As of Thursday, four of South Dakota’s nine recognized Native American tribes have banned Governor Kristi Noem from their reservations, after she made disparaging comments connecting the tribes to cartel activity. That’s right: Kristi Noem, a top contender for Vice President of the United States, is banned from roughly 17% of her own state.

Thank for reporting this! Finally, as a former South Dakota resident, something I can be proud of. Proud of the Native Americans there! I was always glad my kids went to school in South Dakota because of the Native American taught there. Now she has taken that away. What a horrible excuse of a governor. She is in it for herself.

I don't think I heard him take a position, though, on whether her claims were true, or say what evidence she claims to have. Doesn't that matter? NBC News themselves ran a story about how Montana native reservations were being used by Mexican drug cartels. Is MSNBC's position that Kristi Noem's similar claims regarding South Dakota are false? Do they think claims like this are so offensive that it doesn't matter whether they're true or false?

I live in SD…I’m a native of the state. I’ve met her and wasn’t impressed…though many in our state think she’s wonderful. I haven’t found her to be for the people of SD, but for herself. She is a narcissist, so much like Trump. She is very ambitious.

Most of the people suffering from the fentanyl issue are poor white people. I guess theyre bored or something. But i suppose when white people have an issue its always someone else causing it. Natives have their own issues, most if which were started by well.....yeah.....i suppose it karmic retribution. Maybe these rural states need to see why the opioid crisis is affecting white people instead of blaming others. Noem is a trumper, and she has a history of lying and corruption, as nearly all trumpers in government do. They have a history of making claims with no evidence or proof to support the claims.
Bring the evidence/proof with the claim, or don't make the claim. It's a simple rule to follow, yet I do not remember a republican, especially a trumper, ever following it. Hence, it seems impossible.

Congress has needed to strengthen Tribal compacts and rights for a long time now.
But when a nation is always trying to fend off the 1% and their current lap dogs (MAGA, Tea Party, etc., etc.) these real issues never have the momentum to carry through into law.
