Comments have pointed out I have missed two other groups at the start point. Good catch! I might be worth including them should mean you don't have to force a respawn like my video.
I think I found a quicker method using just one mob in eastern Nibelheim using the save/reload method. The mob is in an open area just south of the silo and pipes in between the Chocobo Stop and the route up to the Mt. Nibel Southern Ascent. The mob has three Nibel Wolves and a Poison Cap. They give you a total of 30 AP per fight, the highest easy fight I have been able to find so far.
My Materia setup is Fire/Ice-Magnify, Fire-MP Absorb, Fire-HP Absorb, Fire-Magic Focus and First Strike. I use Cloud with the Chocoking’s Cape and the Rune Blade with Full-Power Magic, Magic Attack +20, and Stagger Recovery. I think it may be overkill but it gets the job done fast.
I cast two quick magnified basic fire spells which kills all four pretty quickly. With the save and reload it takes about twenty seconds from reload to reload. That gives about 90 AP per Materia per minute, 60 if it takes a little longer on the button presses. That makes 3600-5400 AP per Materia per hour if you do not stop to change anything out, rest or go shop.

@@cantdoublejump There is also the mob of one Disgorgon and two Valrons on the beach just west of the Chocobo Stop on the Southern most island of the Nibelheim region that also gives 30 AP per kill. You used it in the route on your video.
The Materia setup is similar, but I stacked Ice Materia and used Blizzaga on them instead. I felt it was a little hard to hit them all with the spell box as the Disgorgon had a tendency to run towards me and not get hit for the quick kill.
Just do the first round of unending nightmare, the queen bee will keep spawning worker bees which gives 12 AP each. Equip the chocobo armband for triple AP for faster grinding
The only caveat about that is it only gains for the party in the fight. Other spots in the overworld everyone gains. Thanks will be handy for focusing on purple materia
I know this is a bit older now but 700 a minute is a bit of a reach. The newer loop of the 4 groups in the first area is 75ap per loop and took like a minute and a half. There is also a combat assignment 1 in cosmo canyon that gives like 27ap per run and i got through 4 of those in the same time for 108 ap just have blizzaga ready. Im sure there could be better places as well.
People are saying it's "700" AP because it's roughly 100 AP x 7 characters' worth of slots... it's bad logic, but it gets people to click on their videos, I guess.

Once you finish the game chapter selection unlocks. This lets you pick a chapter and redo with all gear and all side missions completed

By chapter 12 pretty much your main materias is already maxed up considering your right by the end of the game. If you're going to spend time grinding to max out your materias then you probably should reevaluate your life because it looks like you don't have one
Are you sure you have played this game before? You don't max out to finish the main story but to play hard mode which has several challenging bosss fights that are not in normal mode.
@@cantdoublejump i already beaten it. As for challenges on hard mode. I've beaten the main game/story. I have a wife and kids, my time is limited
