  • I heard that matches should burn the coolest, followed by Zippos (liquid fueled) and then butane lighters. Since I don't like Zippos and matches are cumbersome, I wanted check if this is indeed true or rather kind of an urban myth since the only information I could find on (flame) temperatures is the burning temperature of butan. While these temperatures are correct, they are the maximum temperature under ideal conditions, which we will most likely never experience using any kind of lighter (think burning under pure oxygen for example).
As it turns out, all except the torch burn at around the same temperature and the best way to change the flame temperature is by changing the amount of fule burnt. For highest temp, use a torch with as many jets you can get, for a low temp, use a quality lighter with a steady small flame with gives off the least amount of heat.

I was burning my mosquito coil with a gas lighter and while looking at the flame I wondered how hot the flame was, not even thought that a random guy on youtube had had the same thought as me and REALLY bought all the devices just to verify the information he could totally find on the internet. Keep being motivated like this, bro !
