I’ve started to volunteer at under one sky, and it’s really great!! It was my second time recently and I’m really enjoying it! You get to meet lovely people from the organisation, but also from the streets aswell. Really deeping it and just taking it all in that homelessness is an actual problem in London. It’s a crazy thought yk.

All jokes aside i'm glad you're helping the homeless. Me and my Dad lost our home 10 days before my 20th birthday, almost 9 years ago. We lost everything and ended up living in a tent in the woods - Sadly that wasn't the end of the shit - The local council (the same local council who refused to help find us a council house) came about 2 months into our stay living in the woods and told us if we didn't move we'd have the police called on us to and I quote "arrest you and destroy your belongings". So we moved our tent to another part of the woods and lived there for the remaining months of being homeless, until a farmer made the same threat - A week after that we were able to find a small flat to live in where we still live now. It's not the home we had before, the landlord is horrible but we have to deal with it because otherwise we risk being homeless again. A lot of people out there are homeless and most of them are looked down on, judged and most of them were just unlucky or were fucked over by people close to them (like we were) and it's hard to find people who will help. Whether its finding you a place to live, letting you simply eat some food/drink some water or simply having someone who doesn't look down on you.

The other side get all the benefits even after being abusive (to the kid and the father )and going against court orders. It is what it is. My goal in life is to hopefully someday meet a great woman who's a great mother so I can give my kids a better childhood than I had

What’s scary is that a lot of them do it willingly. I don’t mean that in an exploitative way, but just rather the divide between being homeless or somehow living on minimum wage/benefit is massive. Being able to rely on the help of charities and communities can feel more reliable than getting ‘help’ from the government.

And being homeless doesn't necessarily mean you don't have friends or a job still either but trying to get a home can mean having to give those up even temporarily which can be devastating. There needs to be a better pathway to stability.
