Well. It wasnt necessarily the games random decision. If you press the d pad in one of three directions after winning, you get to choose which victory animation you want to play.

Screaming PHOENIX I’ve heard it’s true in Ultimate but I’m not sure how soon you’re supposed to be holding the D-pad direction to get the desired victory animation to play.
You might need to do it before the “GAME!” disappears, or before the match itself ends even.

Brawl - You can be punished but still do it as if it was N64 and Melee
Wii U/3DS to Ultimate - You are punish for rolling, dodging, shielding, etc. too much or too long (Ultimate) and your "invincibility" when grabbing the edge is gone after grabbing once the edge, the more times you keep grabbing the edge there will be a chance you "miss" the edge completely.
But I'm a casual player who enjoyed the Brawl era (and N64 for nostalgia) than any of other games so I don't understand the Melee elites or the competitive side of the game
@@kaitoshion1133 Brawl definitely had a ledge grab limit cuz it benefited metaknight a lot, and if you try and challenge it you probably would've died. Only certain characters could actually challenge it
@@adamice2526 brawl added that you can grab the ledge backwards, it still has invincibility on all grabs, aka no limit. The reason metaknight benefited is the same as fox in melee, he had a safe move that allowed him to grab the ledge repeatedly without anyway of being hit.

you should be allowed to punch people in the face mid-game if they ledge stall you for 8 minutes straight

chocolatechipbagels disagree, it’s part of the game. It takes 2 people to stall. If you’re winning and ledge stalling you shouldn’t have to approach bc you’re winning. If you’re losing and ledge stalling, you’ll just run out of time and lose. At any point the opponent can try and approach and make something happen, the opponent is stalling too if they too just stand at the other side of the stage, not doing anything.

I'm so glad it was only friendlies, since me and my friend have one from doubles. It was Smash 4 doubles and we had brought it to a 2v1. The enemy was offstage, so we decided to spike them. We both made this decision. He was Toon Link and I was Mewtwo. I missed the sweetspot and hit him upward, and my friend suicide spiked me, losing us the game.
