Yeah, he's a lovely guy by all accounts. He's well liked in the peloton for his positive and supportive attitude, especially in the grupetto. He's the best climber of the sprinters, and apparently he talks to everyone and keeps them all motivated to make the time cut on the hilly days.

Girmay just made it look easy, that was a beautiful sprint, just smooth. He took the perfect spot and waited until the perfect time, and it was probably the cleanest sprint finish I can recall from at least the last couple of tours. Nice.

Across recent history we have seen such things, like Cav, when he actually placed his head onto Sagan's upper arms to gain leverage.
Having judged a sprint or two, I remember overt and dangerous hooking, throwing one
s back wheel into a rival.
Notice today how the choice of the fast German was shut down by #s 1 and 2 finishers closing his chosen line.
Over long time, pure speed does win, as Cavendish in his tdf career and track career. But bike racing is team tactics against individual weaknesses as well as individuals.
You just have to swallow any concepts like morality, as that particular game, sprinting is as loose as streetfighting, with only the truly overt psychopathic moves penalized.
I remain also suspicious of huge consecutive successes in difficult stages, as bodies just do not do that. It is why bike racing evolved into team tactical sport.
It really seems that only knowledgeably riding in races even opens window into the competing tactics - the references made in "highlights" try to indicate , but the game is different than the loud biased commenters of youtube imagine.

A month ago I called Bini overrated because he got too much hype and his results weren't that good. After stage 3 and also today I had to change my thoughts for this incredibly humble man and I hope that Bini and you can forgive me for these thoughts.
