It’s not a poker face….. it’s shellshock, or what we now call PTSD.
Tommy has some control over it, but he’s not doing it on purpose, it’s his mind and body’s way of trying to deal with the trauma of the Trenches.
No amount of “sigma” training will allow you to do this, you’d have to experience the real hell on earth that every man in the trenches experienced.
To be honest, the whole 'poker face' or 'shellshock' added a lot to Tommy's character, made it impressive and also added a lot to the show, but to my mind, the actual poker face doesn't seem to have been demanding of Cillian Murphy as much as his body language and walk seemed to be. It looks relatively less tough (to my mind)
