    This video shows me installing a Bakki river of my own design on pond. The river was installed after a drum with k1 and the ramic media will be a great addition on top of the current k1 filtration.

    looks awesome to be fair. I know a lot of people like to hide all there pipe work and filters but I love to be able to see the pipes and as with your video the bakki river. awesome. keep the videos coming pal.

      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety

      Thanks. This pond is going to have a shed built over where the pipework is so the pipes will be all indoors. Otherwise they would have to be insulated these pipes would freeze so easy.

    I know I've said this before but your bakki river filters look just as good as pieces of contemporary art water features to me. I'd love to know how you came up with the idea and how you went about having them made - I know you told us last year but maybe an idea for a new vid with more detail ;-) . Love your vids mate, always interesting and informative. Cheers, M

    You need more bio media in there. Most of the water is just flowing over the media and not actually passing through it to be filtered. But it's awesome!

      JDO Fishtank Just lower the weir. Bakki rivers are not meant to be packed full. Lower weir which will lower water level and allow more to pass through bio media.

    IMO this is a trickle filter and not a baking. A bake is a waterfall with much more water flow through bhm.

    Well, this "bakki" river is a good idea if you are short on space around your pond.
    - I would choose a little stream with a few waterfalls and it will end up having the same effekt.
    What I do not understand !
    - Why did you place it by the pond, it doesnt lift the looks around the pond to be honest ?
    - why did you use those filter media ?, its transparant and it again, doesnt look to good in my opinion
    - Why not a regular Bakki Shower, those are proven to work just fine.
    Not that I do not like you idea, I just wouldnt have placed it around where its visible, if I did, I would make sure that it would look better and more natural..
    Just maybe, lower the water level in it, place LavaRocks and maybe plant somthing green and growingin the top stream ?
    - but I will follow your progress, so keep up with all your nice video´s, good luck from a Koi Friend ;)

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi, The first bakki river was a 15ft long stream that is on my main pond this design just make that smaller.
      - It is placed next to the pond for ease and apperance.
      - that filter media are the most suitable for that application there are a huge ammont of reason that was chosen that cannot be covered on a youtube comment.
      - there are also a lot of issues with bakki showers it you had one you would know what they are
      - it is transparent for a reason. Imagine a black box that is ugle now imagine a clear one with pond water flowing through it what would happen inside a clear box. The answer to that is life things live and grow inside it plants love the huge ammont of food in the water and humidity and heat. trust me it now blends very well with the surrounding enviroment.
      I get what you are saying and you are correct but you are missing the bigger picture you dont need to do anyting to it, it is its own micro climate. unfortunatly i wont be making a follow up video of the specific river but i have seen a few pictures of it now and it looks like a forest in a box.

      Thank you for your reply.
      I do have a Kinshi Sieve 5 + a Large Bakki Shower on my pond, thats all, but what I need is a fine mesh / filter, to remove the smallest dirt / debres in the water.
      If you have a look at my channel, then you can find a video called "koi pond construction"
      I have also made a small river to make that kind of "filter effekt", but I need to redo mine, since its to deep.
      I used Lava Rocks combined with large granit stones to make it look natural.
      But since it was so deep, the dirt and debree would collect betwine the stones and lava.
      - so I have to make it less deep, so I can gain more flow.
      I do agree on the "transparant" vs black, the transparant is better ;)
      Its nice to know that the river has plants and other green life growing in it, that does make it look better, if you could share a picture of it somehow, it would be nice :)

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +2

      Thanks, This pump is a Blue Eco 240 Pump. the meida matures in different stages for ammonia its very fast even a few days. Nitrite i would say within a few weeks. having said that the results can differ dipending on the pond and time of year etc. although ceramic media like siporax is the fastest to mature much faster than any plastic media.

    Adam, have you used bakki house media? Compared to the siporax which is better ? I have both but use them together in one system so I can't do a comparison. Trying to find a stainless Steele bakki shower without paying over thousand

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +2

      I have tried both bakki showers with Bakki house media and siporax but only recently have i had a bakki shower that is just Bakki house media and so far i am a bit dissapointed i thought it would be better however that pond does not have a drum and all my siporax tanks have drums. personally i would use siporax all day its so much cheaper for a start. That is why i make bakki rivers because they are a lot cheaper than the equivalent shower in stainless. im not sure if there is much difference in BHM and siporax exept for the price.

    Hi Adam I'm having a slight problem with the nitrate in my pond I am doing a 10 >20% water change weekly by a trickle in and out , do you use siporax to tackle this problem
    Thanks mark

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +2

      Hi Mark,
      Siporax is great at processing Nitrate you could also use stuff like Bakki House media. The only media that is not good for Nitrate is plastic media such as k1 most ceramic media and sintered glass media will do well with Nitrate. However a 10>20% water change a week should be enough to keep the Nitrate levels low. Have you ever tested the Nitrate in you tap watet as it can be quite high in some places.

    • @AdamJulyan
      @AdamJulyan  Před 7 lety +2

      Hi, It's made of PETG rather than acrylic (perspex) better for outdoor application and more solid structure when built as PETG is welded with heat rather than a solvent. also PETG has a really high impact resistance and is not affected by weather so it will last years before it shows any signs of age. I used 6mm but if you are using acrylic i would make it a bit thicker.
