A Quiet Birthday for Asante

- *It was Asante's Birthday last week. To keep up with all the news / @sloggervlogger
They did get some beans for a change, before they got cabbage again. Asante was still inside while Shufai was tucking in outside. His aunt was enjoying some browse on her platform and then on her favourite pole. Later on I spotted her on the hut roof with all the other family members outside, but it didn't take long and she vanished inside again. Ozala and her mum Biddy were outside as well and if my memory serves me well ( which doesn't say a lot these days😂) I've never seen Silverback Oumbi inside the cave. Only really Lope used it occasionally and a lot just before his move to the bachelor pad. He went in there for a cabbage, which surprised me even more. Shufai and Ozala waited outside. Oumbi sped up the slope, making sure Ozala stays out of his way. Shufai went inside the cave to have look.

Happy Birthday, beautiful Asante! I’m disappointed that the zoo didn’t make a big deal over her for her birthday. Didn’t the zoo not do anything special for Biddy’s birthday too? Do you ever get to talk to any of the zoo workers, @SloggerVlogger? Any explanations why they didn’t do anything special for their birthdays?
Very rarely do I get to see anybody as they mostly work in the backroom. Biddy's birthday was even more disappointing as she had her 50th. Such a big milestone. I have spoken about it with staff before, but there were different reasons, which none of them make sense to me. I think mostly it comes from higher up what they can and can't do.

I'm wondering if they didn't have a public celebration because they're so reluctant for people to know the names of the gorillas (they don't want people constantly calling out the names all day) - it's hard to have a public birthday and not say her name. I'm just relieved she didn't get pushed around by His Majesty 😊
Oh, I don't know. I think that would be just an excuse. I think most people wouldn't have known her name and the people that do, are normally respectful enough and know you shouldn't confuse the troop by shouting their names.
Is nothing happening there without Lope? 🤔
Shufai does have his moments, but yes mostly been quiet there.

I did see her get some green beans and the fresh browse earlier, but she really deserved more. Especially on her birthday. The chimpanzees get a lot of cabbage as well, but at least they get some red peppers, primate biscuits and other veg as well. I don't know why the gorillas get so much cabbage all the time. It never use to be like this. It's like they are on a cabbage diet.

@SloggerVlogger particularly when boredom for primates in captivity is such a huge issue. A little something special would make today different from other days, which is as close to celebrating an animal's birthday as you can get. They could vary their diet, and alleviate their boredom at the same time
