I am a widow đąand 71. I grow my own vegetables and berries. I can EVERYTHING! I have 2 large freezers full! It is nothing for me to can 1200 jars a year. I give about 300 jars to my adult kids, as I have easily 3 years of just can goods.I donât have any bills but the basics. It is extremely hard doing it all alone. But the Lord gave me this life and the knowledge I have, and I am thankful for that. But believe me, itâs hard being a widow and doing it all.
Thank you for the encouragement to push on. Today has been one of those challenges physically and why am I doing this. I am near you age. Bless you.

People waste so much money and say they're broke. Drop the manicures, pedicures, booze, cigarettes, massages, vaping, Tobacco chew, tattoos, fast junk food, Starbuck, coffee, keeping up with the Jones, forget new cars, color your hair, cut your families hair, mow your own dang yard, clean your own house .....need I go on????
Netflix and any of the other subscriptions, going on a cruise or vacation, designer clothes are a few more.
I do none of those things and still I worry.
Exactly! I cut hubby's hair most of our marriage, and our 4 boys til they were older teens. My DIL cuts my eldest sons hair and helps trim his beard.

Best thing is to have no bills and try to live off the grid. Be able to barter also. Don't count on the government or anyone else to support you.

OMG...I used to encounter this when I was still an ER nurse....people would get SO angry that we gave them an Rx instead of dispensing a bottle of Amoxicillin or Augmentin or whatever for their kid's ear infection or croup, etc. I couldn't count the number of times a parent would angrily proclaim they didn't understand why we wouldn't dispense it "because it's free" & they don't have the $5 to fill the prescription. First of all, it's NOT free. They might not pay for it but the rest of us are! Secondly, don't tell me you can't afford a $5 bottle of antibiotic for your kid while you're sitting there with 3 packs of cigarettes poking out of your purse while talking on the newest $1000 cellphone on the market to set up an appointment for another custom tattoo & picking debris from under your custom-painted, bling-encrusted salon nails. to the folk that say I cant prep..... I used to have to be on Food stamps! I had to make $300 last a whole month!!! it was my ONLY food money!!! So how did I do it? Lots of spaghetti, lots of hamburger helpers, Mac and cheese, soups, ramen noodles, caned veg. shoot I was even on tv showing how I did it! So My advice to you-all who "can't" prep. First you start out with enough ramen for one meal a day per person in your family for 2 weeks worth of suppers. then you get canned mixed veg. one can per pack of ramen. that is your starter emergency food. is it health food??? NO but it will get you buy a few days. then when your shopping normally you get 7 meals a week start getting 8 or 9 a week. over time that builds up. start learning how to make your own things. like bread, noodles, etc go to the bakery and ask if they have any empty frosting buckets you can get. take as many as they will give you. get them home and clean them. label them sugar, flour, oats, rice, etc and start filling them. the extras save for container gardening! over time you will have a month of food, then 2 months and on and on so long as you keep doing it. watch for sales. my store will do 10 for $10! make the most of those. I mean this with all the love in my heart, you cant eat excuses!

I lost my husband a year ago, just a couple of month's shy of our 32 year anniversary. I'm closing on a small homestead of 2.5 acres next month because I just can't handle living in this big city anymore. I started prepping during the shut downs after I saw all the panic and shortages at the grocery stores. I plan on putting in a garden and fruit trees, raising chickens and possibly sheep and/or goats. This will be a whole brand new experience for me, and I have a LOT to learn! I'm doing this all by myself and I know my husband would be proud of me. We were already planning on moving to a rural area this year anyway, so I'm just following through with our plans. I also bought a Glock after he passed and took classes on how to properly use it. We had already been talking about me getting a handgun a couple of years before he passed because of how crazy the crime in Houston has gotten. I know he would be proud of me for that! I have no debt except for this new mortgage, but luckily I have a lot of equity in our Houston house which covers a big chunk on the down payment. I know it's going to be a lot harder to do all the things I want to do with this homestead without my husband to help me, because he was a great handyman and DIY'er. Being a widow, I know I have to prepare and do all the things, because I'm all I got now. I put my faith in God that all will work out as He intended for me. But I just don't think anyone should have any excuses to not do SOMETHING to prepare for the worst, no matter how small, given all that's been happening these last few years!
My mother told me year and half ago it was impossible for her to sell her house and buy land worthy of the move with a home. I have had a lot of struggle in my life. Iâm 52 years old and I have 7 children. I have raised them as a single mom the majority of the time. I had no help from outside family. I have had to be on public assistance before, but I worked hard cleaning houses and made ends meet eventually. I did without vacations, beauty amplifiers, pretty clothes etc. my priority was to save money to buy a home with land. I made sure I always had good credit so when the time came and the home I prayed for became available for a good deal, I was able to buy. That was 7 years ago and now I have fruit trees, bushes and gardens. Small livestock that an aging woman can handle. âWe afford what we want to affordâ we all need to get our priorities straight. I drive a main highway to work and I'm seeing more and more abandoned cars that have broken down. Also seeing more people walking along the side of roads that look like they're homeless. Signs are there
Yep
Iâm 68 years old I have no one been single 20 years now. I have one neighbor I ask to help me take my TV out of box and he charged me $50.00. I did pay him for yard work he charged me $50.00 I understand somethingâs about paying but other neighbor said he charged her $35.00 for yard. I did get riding lawnmower to do yard. I cry everyday that Iâm alone.
I find your comment so relatable,,
Would be nice to not always make a buck helping someone especially your neighbor!

@@Dolly11165 Yeah, I blinked at that one. Never would have thought to charge for helping a neighbor with something simple like that, now and then.

My husband and I do not live in a bubble. We are very much aware that the country is going to hell in a hand basket. We fully understand the intentional stresses being placed on America by those in power. It makes me personally nauseous when I hear each Party announcing that they will win a federal election if supports will help them raise hundreds of millions of dollars. Is the Presidency of the United States for sale to the highest bidder? It is past time limits on political fundraising is set at an equal level. Suggestion: you get 20 million dollars for a Presidential campaign, use it wisely. Neither Party is allowed to raise a dollar more. What do you think?
I feel that's best.
Agree 100 percent!
England does not have elections like ours I think it is only for a few weeks. More intelligent.
I too am amazed at how many people don't have a clue or just don't care about what is happening. I have totally lost all confidence in government. When SHTF our government will not help us or even care. Wake up people. đą
Lady, if you have been listening to Patara, you know she is wonderful person and has a wonderful family!! đ
I dont think we ever really came out of the 2008 crash..That was obummer right? Askin for a friendđ
I agree that we are in a depression now.
Family, farming, food and fur babies are the most important factors in our lives. Thank you for another great video, Miss Patara. đđ
I live on the out skirts of Houston and a couple found a newborn placenta in tact left on a walking path. Praise God that baby was found in time. 90 degree heat was found in the early morning. Just born.
WE WENT THROUGH ALMOST 4 YEARS OF A RECESSION/DEPRESSION SINCE MR.POTATO HEAD TOOK OFFICE.
For me....peach and blueberry cobbler, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.....oh my.
You made me hungry đ đ
Apricot/peach fried pies are my favorite.

I believe your 100% RIGHT!! We are in a depression and only going to get worse! đđ»âźïžâ„ïžâđ»đ©đ»âđŸ
They lie so much that they actually believe their lies but they deep down they know they are lying. It is verydiscouraging.
I've been a widow since I was 43, I'm now 66. I worked 2 jobs for 14 yrs. I retired last year. I love your show. I am a tough cookieand I've had to be to take care of myself.
they need to try and keep things normal. Until they cant. When people start to question the weather, volcanos & earthquakes and why the northen lights are appearing so far south.
Patera my friend, as a 79 yr old widow, I so much appreciate you and all the effort you put into your channel. Thank you. God bless you and your family â€
I love that I'm seeing articles like this "Tennessee governor signs bill calling for 30 days of prayer and fasting in July". Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill calling for 30 days of prayer and fasting beginning July 1 in the Volunteer State. The resolution asks the people of the state 'to seek Godâs hand of mercy healing on Tennessee.' This needs to be a call to all states.. I'm in AZ and will be following TN led.
Yes amen
When the pain becomes greater than the denial, true change will occur...
Yesterday, potato salad with potatoes, onion from the garden & celery from the neighbors garden that I trade peppermint for.
Today, making salad with lettuce from the garden, eggs, cucumber, tomato, from the farmers market, & mushrooms from IGA.
đŠđșđžđThatâs awesome. Trading and bargaining. My daughter does that with her homemade soaps, etc
I am one of those little old ladies on social security. And when that time hit that is exactly what I said. I am not going to be in this situation again. I started then and I'm still working at it now. Little by little piece by piece you can do it. But don't put yourself in a box with a big no on it. Get off your butt and start getting two or three things at a time. Like you say five cans a week and putting it back. Think of your family first. You'll never get anywhere in the world. If you think of yourself always as number one.
Wow, so much wisdom in her words. â€đ
The funny thing is I am an educated economist and a pseudo prepper and told people leading up to 2008 before it hit, of course no one believed me đ. About 2 years ago or so when I started seeing prepper channels on youtube talking about finance topics and finance channels talking about prepping I knew people were starting to see what was coming. The two things go hand in hand.
Oh and BTW we have been in recession since October 2023 and it's still getting worse. Plan Accordingly.
There is a difference between a need and a want!!! Young people have different ideas about what those are.
Loved that statement about Jesus being there 24/7; absolutely!đ
This is like your in the desert and drive with gas light on. Your 100 miles away from a gas station. So you pretend it's not happening. What's important is to realize you will run out of gas. What do you do. We are literally out of gas!
đ Graaaaaat analogy!
My wife and I heard your words, "We are 2 to 3 weeks ahead...", and our ears perked up. On our way home from church this morning we were noticing the wheat fields and comparing them with some of the crops in our own garden and we both agreed, we are ahead of a normal year... noticeably. We live in SE WA State and our church is in Whitman County, WA. (I must mention that this is the #1 wheat producing county in the U.S. I'm sorry, but I can't help but be a little bit proud of this. Heaven knows that when you live in the same state as Seattle and the stuff they've had going on for the last few years, you have to search for things to be proud of here in WA State.) Back to the topic - "ahead of last year". I've wondered if the crops being early isn't a blessing from the Almighty. Maybe He knows we're going to need this food. Soon. Only time will tell. I'm sure He has all this figured out and doesn't need my help, but it certainly makes me wonder.
Also, you commented on your cucumbers. We planted cucumbers. Twice. Neither planting came up. What?
Well, God provided the means for us to purchase a freeze drier and my wife has been freeze drying everything she can get her hands on for months. (It's not a good idea to stand in one place for very long.) She's another blessing from the Almighty. Thank you, Patara, for everything you do! God bless.
