Thanks, Ben and Meg @thehollarhomestead for hosting this class! It was wonderful learning more about where our food comes from and building a deep respect and appreciation for the food that fuels us and for those who raise and grow our food. Meg is a wonderful cook and an amazing host and Bed is a fantastic teacher! Meg's Pork Digital Cookbook - www.hollarhomestead.com/shop/p/the-pork-cookbook-e-book

Thanks for sharing.
I've always wanted to try but I'm squeamish, yes I used to have pork cracking constantly.
I was so happy to see you all together! 🙂
I saw you last week on the Hollar homestead I follow. I'm glad you had the opportunity to see and experience where our food comes from. I watch you everyday that you have a podcast and I learned so much from you Becky and your wonderful bouncy and joyful attitude that I see inspires me to want to do more. Love and hugs your way. Looking forward to your next podcast🥰🌻
Becky, I retired last June at the age of 71. All my friends talked about their plans to travel, spend time in warmer climates, etc. All I wanted to do was get serious about my 4 little raised beds and do some canning. Things i never had time for while raising two kids alone and then just working, working, and working. You have been an inspiration to me. I take your ideas and downsize to my needs. Thank you for all your many videos, ideas and encouragement. BTW: my friends think I'm crazy! I tell them this is the person I am, a homebody! Done the travel, done the career, time to concentrate on my joy! Relearning old skills, and new ones! Gotta go figure out my planting needs and where I'll be setting up the seedling station!
That’s me too! All the best from Australia.
I retired in 2020 due to disability. I never knew I'd be interested in all this. Becky got me into this world and I appreciate her so so much!
I am retired, too. I love being a homebody and I love cooking. Becky has really been an inspiration!
I could have written this with a few tweaks! Good luck to you...enjoy a happy life!!❣
Yep ,retired, then covid came and blew my travel plans.I was just going to volunteer to keep busy and covid messed that up also.THEN I said, "Let me try to grow food.lol Well I suck at it but I keep trying. Who knew it was more than just dropping seeds in soil? The SLUGS and GRUBS and other pests. What a wake-up call.
As a farmer I totally relate to the feelings that arise when it is time to harvest the pork. Whether you want to or not connections are made between farmer and livestock. If you’re a wise farmer you’ve given them as much as a beautiful life as possible. It is always hard to say goodbye yet thank you. ❤
Becky, I saw you on The Hollar Homestead with Ben and Meg a couple weeks ago. I am so glad you shared on your channel. It was nice to hear how this affected how you will order pork in the future and have a deeper understanding of the farm to table perspective from a grower. Great job jumping in there and getting hands on experience processing. I have hosted countless chicken butchering workshops and over the years and have become great friends with many of the folks that attended and still process with and for many of them 10 years later.
Yea I saw her on their video also.
I was like I hope I can see this from Becky’s eyes also as I know Meg and Ben are so busy that filming it all is to had for them. But also as it is great to see the sharing and spreading of each o th era channels
Being a hunter, I clearly remember the first animal I ever took. From shooting it to processing it and putting it on my table to feed my family…it was a VERY emotional experience. It wasn’t easy to do at all. But knowing where our food comes from is paramount to future generations that they too can appreciate an animal giving it’s life to sustain ours. THANK YOU so much for including this on your channel.
Much respect!
My husband and I are total opposites. My mother said it would not last a year . We just celebrated our 48th anniversary on the 9th.
Wow, congratulations!!! When it's right it's right.
Story: they ask a guy you've been married for 25 years what is the secret?
He said at a
the beginning of our marriage he said every time she's upset I go out and when I am upset of something she goes in the bedroom and stay there until everything is settled.
So they ask him what happened? He says nothing that's why I'm in the street for 25 years. 😂😂😂😂...
I was watching the Holler Homestead channel and saw you in their vlog of the class. I thought "Is that Becky?" and it was you!!! I never expected to see you there...Small world? good for you and thank you for sharing your food journey :)
I don't personally eat any meat, but knowing where your food comes from and supporting locally/community and being sustainable is what this is all about! Awesome for gaining new skills and making sure you are doing good by you and mother earth 💕
I also do not eat meat, but I think what they are doing is great!
The Hollar family are hard working homesteaders, Meg is a fabulous cook, with all of their home grown ingredients I don't think anybody eats better than they do!!! It was wonderful that you got to spend some time with your sister, Becky!
I agree!!!
As son as you said hog bursting class in north Carolina
I was like HOLLAR HOMESTEAD !!!!😂
I seen you on Holler Homestead the other day. I said, WHAT...... There is Becky. I was so tickled to see you there. I know you had a good time.
I thought so also lol.....this confirmed it lol as soon as the video started I was like she went ro NC for Hollars Hogs! ........I bet it was sooooo fun!!!
That looks like fun. When my husband was alive we did butchering. I miss it.
Same I paused the video make sure it was Becky lol
I saw her there also but had to look twice and there she was.. love her❤
I work in the PNW but I live in NC. That flight is brutal. I always fly early from PDX as well. So girl I feel your pain!
I followed the Hollar Family on every video as they travel cross country on the search for their forever homestead. It has been so much fun for this 82 yr. old woman to watch them grow and prosper, just as I have watched and enjoyed you and Josh create your homestead. I so love your cooking videos along with Meg's. The creativity the two of you have with food is unbelievable and so fulfilling to watch and learn and be able to applied for my family of two. Bless you for sharing this wonderful trip in enlightenment for you with all of us.
It was fun seeing you on the Hollar's video. two of my favorite families in a class.
I love it when my CZcamsrs come together🌻😎 I have been watching Hollar Homestead for years…so awesome and cool to see you taking advantage of their classes making new friends and connections…love it 💜
Becky, I was watching " The Holler's" pig butchering video a few weeks ago and saw that you attended.. Thanks for sharing your version of it from the students point of view. You and Meg are such great cooks in your own rights. I faithfully watch each of your videos. It's nice to watch Ben and Meg and you all growing your own food..
OMG…when I watched their video of the class I thought……wow, that looks just like Becky!!! You picked a GREAT class to attend- love their channel!!
I saw you in Meg and Ben’s video a few days ago. It’s amazing how widespread this homestead community is. It’s like seeing old friends. I watch the Hollers and Bri from scratch-knew they were friends as well as the Rhodes. Y’all are all my faves for different reasons. Love your channel and all your content. You teach this 68 yr old great grandma new stuff everyday.
Ask your butcher to course GRIND your lard or tallow. It allows you to render it so much easier.
Great idea
They did :) I wish my butcher would do that for me.
This is very educational. Thank you Becky for letting us tag along. I learn so much from your videos. I’m planning on starting my very first garden this year. Y’all were close to me, I’m in S.C. Charlotte is about 2 hours away. I’m glad you and your sister got to spend time together. Sisters are the best❤
I recognize that iconic carpeting. Love flying out of PDX . Eastern Oregon girl here. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
You were in my “neck of the woods”.😁 I hope you found NC welcoming. I love your channel and enjoyed this adventure with you and your sister. Thanks for sharing.
Becky I thought I saw you on the Hollar channel. You are confirming for me that they are genuinely nice people. I also watch Bri. So happy that you all are friends.
How delighted I was to realize you were en route to another of my favorite homesteads, The Hollar Homestead! I have watched every one of their up loads from the time Meg started in California before their epic year of travel to find where they'd settle to raise their family and have their homestead. Becky, I watch every one of your up loads also, perhaps it is the genuineness you exude that makes me love to watch both you and Josh, and Meg and Ben; whatever it is I love what you do and your work ethic. I can't believe I watched the hog butchering class vid a few weeks ago and totally missed you were there. So glad you have met and appreciate each other. Blessings all around.
I was glad to see your side with Ben and Meg. I've been following them for a few years. They are awesome people. It was great to see them from another perspective. Thanks. I've started watching you now because of them. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your time at the Hollar Homestead. It was great to see the class from a different view.
Ben & Meg's channel is in my top 5 homesteading channels! Becky, I'm so glad you & your sister were able to make the trip out to one of their classes! Very cool to see their class from the perspective of a participant! Thanks for taking the time to document your experience there ❤
Love this lesson I never knew all this stuff!!!
I was watching Holler Homestead when all of a sudden I said look, there’s my friend Becky and then I started laughing at myself I thought why would I say my friend Becky she don’t have a clue who I am but I sure felt like all of my friends were gathered together lol and it made me so happy!!
Same here :)
Becky, have you considered putting out a cookbook? You reignited my love for cooking and I am beyond grateful to you! My family has enjoyed so many of your recipes. I’m hank you for all you do to share your love of food, gardening and homestead living!
Neato, I watch Ben and Meg. Seem like very nice and hardworking people.
I knew that was you in the Hollar's video. I bet that was quite the learning experience. The Hollar's are amazing and so willing to share their knowledge
I have watched Meg and Brian feed those pigs and prep for the course. Nice to see it full circle.
This video brought up a lot of memories for me. My dad was an avid hunter. He also processed all the game and fish he caught at home. It was a hands on process that we were all involved in. I miss my dad very much. Harvesting an animal brings a whole new range of emotions and appreciation for them giving up their life for us. I take nothing of this for granted. It has been decades since I last went hunting. I am admittedly soft and do not do well with the whole harvesting process. I have the utmost respect for those who raise these animals, harvest and process them. Thank you for sharing this new journey. I appreciate it.
Omg! as much as I love your normal CZcams videos of food, shopping and gardening I’m just loving this vlog video.
Woot! I thought that was you in the background! ❤
I watched ben and meg and thought it was you in front of the table but thought you live too far away for it to be you so im glad you put this up hope you had a great time hope josh managed the little one ok too
I thought that was you in that Ben & Meg’s class. I was surprised as you never indicated interest in this area before but your video was really great. I was also surprised & a little disappointed that you, Ben & Meg didn’t do a ‘talk bit’. I have followed you & The Hollar Homestead for years now as well as other homesteads & every time other homesteads go to another homestead they do a ‘talk bit’ with each other. I am surprised you, Ben & Meg didn’t.
Wow, Becky! Welcome to Charlotte! This is where I live. I love your channel and been following for years.
What a great video, Becky! Thanks for capturing your adventure. There is a lot of spillover effect for me because of this video...igniting a respect for where our food comes from. It's so easy to take it for granted, but we shouldn't.
Becky,
You are such an inspiration! Your videos are informative, thoughtful, organized, and particularly in this video, respectful of others ideas/beliefs. As a teacher, seasoned gardener, environmentalist, and vegan you give me "food for thought" in every video. Your thorough documentation of your thoughts throughout each video gives deeper meaning to what you are doing. I appreciate all your time giving credit to those items you use and those who have contributed to your knowledge. All the prep for each video provides your viewers with a professional product. KUDOS to you and what you have achieved so far. I for one, am staying on the journey with you. Thanks for each of your posts!
So happy to see you merge with the Hollars! Two of my favorite channels! ❤❤
I, like so many, saw you in The Hollars video. Glad you were able to learn something new and share the experience on your channel.
I love that you are friends with so many of my favorite CZcamsrs. I would love to meet you, Jamerill, Bri, Meg, Jessica, Rebecca and Rachel. All my favorite homesteader families. I'm glad y'all do all the things and that you share it all with us.
Wow, that was an exciting trip! Thanks for taking us along! The time spent with your sister would have been precious & the whole trip a memorable experience! That was a crazy busy trip & the weather a bit challenging (so much rain); I’m thankful you got home before the cold weather came. We had extreme cold in Alberta, Canada, where some nights it was -40 C & colder with the wind chill. Thankfully, our natural gas & electricity stayed on. Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
Becky, when your video began, never did I dream that you would be coming to the east to attend hog butchering! As a child I grew up on our farm, where we raised hogs, corn, and lots of vegetables! I have watched Ben and Meg’s youtube channel since they lived in California. I’m sure you learned a lot from a wonderful couple with the sweetest children!
It was nice to see your trip. Becky. I had seen you on Ben and Meg's channel just a couple days ago so I knew you were going to share your time at the Hollar's. Thank you for sharing. So blessed that this has ignited you to even more understanding where our food comes from and how to prepare it to be wholesome and delicious. As a retired PNW Foods teacher, these things are a blessing to see. Nice also to see Sarah, your sister and Mt. Rainier!
I’m definitely an early bird! Coffee, newspaper, relax! Traveling by yourself is a bit of a marathon! Enjoy your sister time!
Loved that you did this! Understanding the process can be difficult, but we always called it 'farming!". I am glad you did this. Great video!
I love how you say "That's ok" instead of fretting about things.
Back in the day, we used to crop people off with a good 45 minutes to get from the airport front door, through check-in, to the boarding gate, and up the ramp without running. Now it can easily take 3 to 4 hours just to get through security.
My husband had the pleasure of raising our own hogs last year! What a humbling experience. We processed them out ourselves. I was a total mess but I walked up the road to give my husband time to do what he had to without me freaking out but I jumped right in and we proceeded them together. Got our cuts packaged and in the freezer. Delicious, healthy non stressed meat! I absolutely love it
I was emotional and I didn't raise them. It makes me respect the food I eat even more now.
I always cry when I say goodbye before harvest. I know that I have shown them my love and appreciation for them throughout their whole life but I always need to tell them face to face how grateful I am for providing my body nourishment. We always lift their spirit to God and ask Him to care for them in our stead and thank Him for providing. And I am heartbroken every single time. But I am also proud of the ability to provide the best food for my family. I think that if butchering day ever gets easier on my heart, I am doing something wrong.
😢😢😢
@@renabarnett2238 This touched my heart and made me cry. Thank you for appreciating the life of these animals and lifting their Spirit to God.
@@renabarnett2238 me too! I always walk away when I get emotional because I don't want to stress the animals or my husband! It's so important, I always say for years we have consumed stress even in the meat we ate. I treat our animals great and respect them because they in return nourish and feed us for months. What a blessing it is to be able to raise our own meat! Definitely make you respect our foods more ... Many blessings to you beautiful SoilSista 💜
Ben and Meg are amazing people and I am so glad you had the opportunity to attend their workshop. Along with yours, the Hollar Homestead is at the top of my CZcams playlist. Like you, they embody the essence of homestead life from start to finish. Thank you all for sharing this life with us.
We saw you in the class with Hollar Homestead. I love their family and channel. I have watched their journey since they were in California. I hope you enjoyed it. ❤
An amazing informational class given by Ben and Meg. I would love to watch you and Meg cook together sharing your individual cooking talents!
That would be amazing to see. I love both these youtubers.
I saw you in the Hollar's video last week. I was so excited to see my 2 favorite channels together.
I have enjoyed Ben and Meg for about a year. I'm so happy you had a chance to visit their homestead and the opportunity to learn about processing pigs.
My husband and I are so impressed that you traveled across the country to learn the how to process food you love!
Good Morning Becky. I live in a divided household when it comes to travel! I like to get to the airport early!! Enjoy your time with your sister!! Precious memories for you two! Be sure to introduce us to your sister!
Hey Becky. That is so cool. I just went to a chicken processing event at a local farm and it was very educational and I am so grateful for the opportunity and experience. So true to know where our food comes from and the details of the process ❤😊
Hi Becky, I love Ben and Meg have been watching them for a few years they are one of the best.! I watched their butchering class and was surprised to see you and your sister there...lucky you two!. I am jealous you got to experience her food.
Glad you enjoyed the class also nice to see Bri there (she is amazing).
Oh Becky l grew up in Georgia and l remember our annual hog butchering. I was the youngest of 12 raised on a farm. It was my job to cut up the fat into cubes which when rendered the
cubes became cracklings. These were added to the cornbread. It was quite a feast. Mom always fried tenderloin and made biscuits for for lunch on butchering day.❤
So happy to see this video that youve experienced what was an annual event to me growing up on a farm.❤
God bless you and your family. TFS. Love you Becky & Josh.❤
How exciting, Becky! Fun times with your sister and these wonderful people! I’ve been following them since they left their home and started looking for a new homestead! What a journey they’ve had!
Thank you for sharing this experience with us! ❤
Oh my goodness! I really appreciate the reverence and the consideration that you gave to Meg’s cooking. Not just her cooking but the skills and importance of using the whole hog. Thank you for being open to new ideas!
Welcome to the Easr coast. Those are tornado shelter signs. We used to have tornado drills at work. We are not used to 10 inches of snow that we just got this week in East Tennessee. Thanks for sharing. My dad was a butcher and he even made his own sausage. Nothing is better than what he raised and fed us growing up.
My daughter and I love to watch your videos. So cool to see you on our side of the country! I love the respect you show for the things you don’t know and how you always try to learn. And we learn from you… so thank you. ❤
I had just watched Bri’s video and she said she had went out for dinner with friends! How fun!
Interesting & I am so pleased how you shared the respect for your viewers. You never cease to amaze me! Thank you, Becky! ❤
I am glad you got to come to NC, my home state. Meg is an amazing cook and I love seeing how she puts the simplest things together for a stick to your ribs meal. Love your channel also!!❤😊
Loved seeing some of the NC countryside. I lived there a long time ago and still have family there. When you have a chance and a little time go back and drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, especially during the spring. It is breathtaking and the people are great.
Hey Becky :) i am so glad you got to visit North Carolina . I live about 45 minutes from Charlotte I know it was very nice to meet Meg and see the whole process of cutting up the hog and separating it . The food here in NC is awesome . I was born and raised here so it just comes natural :) so glad you and your sister had fun and learned so much .
The Bearded Butchers channel is a good resource to learn where different cuts come from. I have learned a lot from them!
Yes they are so helpful!
we appreciate you and your sister helping to support our amazing farm families also! 💚
What a great video, and I can only imagine how much you enjoyed this experience. It's something on my list to learn how to do in my homestead, when the time comes. Thank you for sharing some of it.
Hey Becky! I wish I had known that you were going to be in Charlotte for a quick minute! I work close to the airport and would have loved meeting you there! I saw you on Meg and Ben’s video too. I was so excited! Glad you got home safe and sound before those crazy storms hit out there. You inspire me with every video! Love ya!!
Since I love you and Meg and Bri and Ben and your blogs this was a special time! They already had talked after you left on their channel and said it was a great class!
I saw you on The Hollar Homestead…glad to see you two together! I love Bri from Scratch too! 🎉❤
Me too! It was great seeing Becky at the hollar 😊
I wondered how to attend anything at the Hollars. You and your sister did it last minute, Wow! And so early.
I’m so glad that you had this experience, especially with your sister. So wonderful. I hope to attend one of the Hollar’s workshops this year. Thank you for sharing!! ❤
OMG!!! I knew as soon as you said where you were going you were going to Holler Homestead! I love this so much. I love both your channels and am so glad you have connected. I am constantly amazed at all the channels you are connected with that I love to watch on a regular basis.
I was so excited to see you on their video Becky and so pleased that it was a profound experience for you. It’s always a joy to see content creators that I love spending time with each other. And such a blessing for you sharing the experience with your sister.
It's so neat that you were able to go do the class. I have watched Bri and Art from the very beginning. I'm a big follower of several of the Homesteads in NC, Tennessee and SC. I live vicariously through all of you. Thank you for this video and safe travels to you and your sister.
Thanks for taking us along with you, been a long long time since I
have done anything like that. My dad has been gone 25 years and he did all this for our family.
I see a lot of the comments are what I also want to say.... I dont eat a lot of meat and never watch butchering videos but did watch this because you are a "friend" and I watch what interests my friends... You are charming and fun, talented too!
I learned a lot watching this today, thank you for sharing. I have been considering purchasing a whole hog, and I had no idea of the cuts that I would want. I’m happy that you and your sister got a chance to spend some time together ❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this video! That is such a cool experience. Now I want to see if our local butcher can offer classes like that lol.
I appreciate those who learn butchering skills and then share those skills with others. It is such a blessing for an animal to give its life to feed people, and learning where our food comes from is humbling and can make you much more grateful.
I enjoyed this! I watched Meg & Ben's vlog after the class and saw you were there. I really liked the detail you went into during the butchering process! And we all now know what a great cook Meg is!
I am so glad you were able to experience this. I am so glad you shared your experience. Very helpful. Safe travels! Blessings.
This was awesome, Becky! I really find the butchering process interesting and that dinner looked so dang good!
I grew up on a farm and butchering hogs was a yearly event! So glad you shared your experience and that Ben and Meg were the teachers! They are both great teachers❤
Thank you, Becky, for sharing this journey with us. I am originally from the PNW - but have lived in Germany for almost half of my life (most of my family members are still in WA and OR). It was fun to go with you to and through the various places (many of which I've been to before). I've followed Meg and Ben for a very long time - so it was a joy to recognize you in their video before this came out - and what I especially want to thank you for, is your sharing of the profundity of what you experienced. Many years ago, as a teenager, I had also planned on raising and processing my own animals. However, I was unable to emotionally handle it, so became first vegetarian, then vegan. Having said that, I totally appreciate and support those who are able to do the whole process themselves - in whatever capacity. I appreciate your statements and encouragements. I am a more sporadic visitor to your channel (unfortunately, I have developed a type of viewing ADHD, and can't regularly handle the longer videos) but so appreciate your soothing voice and you sharing your thoughts as you do. Thank you again for this phenomenal video. All the best!
What an incredible opportunity!
What a blessing for all involved. I'm so grateful that they're are like minded ppl it there that are willing to share their knowledge. 💞
I am so happy that you connected with that beautiful family! I've been following the Hollars for many years, before they settled in North Carolina, as well as Art and Bri. A wonderful community there:))
Thanks for sharing this experience. I also follow Meg and Benn's Hollar Homestead and last week when they showed their video of the event, in a scan of the room I noticed you in the background. What a cool surprise, Having watched a few of their workshop videos it was really cool to watch one from a participant's vantage point. Glad you had such a wonderful experience and that you returned home before the storms.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING US WITH YOU FOR THE EXPERIENCE OF THIS TRIP! YOU ARE A WONDERFUL TEACHER OR A WONDER PERSON THAT CAN EXPLAIN SO WELL TO UNDERSTAND AND STAY INTERESTED!
You are truly Blessed to be able to expand your interest in food. This is as you can hear in you're voice not only for you BUT FOR YOU'RE LITTLE FAMILY.
This is sooooooo cool! I only wish I could afford to do it. *Someday*. However, for now, what a learning experience just from watching this and being able to tell the butcher which cuts I'd like and how.
Not only is it cool you got to hang out with the Hollars but Bri as well. What a treat!!! I bet you were the one who came from the farthest away too.
I love and follow both your channel & Ben & Megs channel. . This makes me so happy to see that you attended one of their classes. ❤
I'm so sad, I work in Charlotte and would love to have met you while you were here . I hope you enjoyed North Carolina
Such a great episode and learning something new. I too am learning so much from you as a retired lady that loves to garden and can. Thank you, Becky!!!!!❤❤
I had the pleasure of attending one of Ben and Meg's classes this past year. What an amazing and knowledgeable family!
I also spotted you, and I'm glad you got to learn some new skills. We make our own bacon it's so nice to know what we are eating.
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing experience!! it was so encouraging to me for all the reasons you shared. You have really changed my life when it comes to food prep, canning and overall falling back in love with my kitchen!!! My husband loves you too because he is reaping all the rewards by eating all the fabulous recipes that you have taught me! 😊 Blessings to you and your sweet family!! ❤
Thank you Becky for sharing all of what you learn and where you travel. You are truly inspiring❤❤❤
