Exploring Abandoned Prison With Power

- This abandoned prison was built back in 1968 on a hillside with almost 100 acres of land. It opened as a state correctional center that held some long-term prisoners, but the majority of inmates served short-term sentences. The prison contained over 100 different units, held approximately 1,000 inmates, and employed almost 400 guards and other staff.
This facility had a wide range of inmates at various security levels from murderers to thieves, but was known for being a medium security prison. The correctional facility, which housed adult male offenders and had pretty much all the amenities one could ask for serving any length of time in prison. There was a gymnasium, barber shop, weight room, recreation room, workshops, a cafeteria, outdoor basketball courts, and even hand ball courts.
The prison had programs that help inmates such as the GED program to help their release. Prison officials stated that declining inmate population in conjunction with increasing costs of maintaining the aging facility as the primary reason the prison was permanently closed in 2013. It has sat abandoned ever since.
The most noteworthy areas of the correctional facility was the main control center, with all the control panels and cctv monitors, at the very front of the prison. That was basically surrounded by several areas of different holding cells. This would have most likely been the area where the inmates would first come into the prison while they await their security level and cell block assignment, and where they would also receive their property and entitlements, such as care packs, a mat, and clothing. There was also a visitation room in this area, that included stools on each side of bulletproof glass, so the prisoners could see and talk to their families and loved ones. Surely some of the holding cells in this area were also used for the inmates that would be waiting for a visitation.
As we made our way down the long main corridor of the prison, there were several wings on each side of the corridor that led to different cellblocks, some of them white in color, others blue in color. These cell blocks were two-tiers tall, featured only single man cells and showers for inmates. This may have been where the prisoners that had a higher security level would have been held, such as murderers and rapists, since it appeared that they would have had minimal interaction with the other prisoners.
This cellblock design may have also been useful to segregate inmates that had protective custody assignments and could not be housed with the general population inmates.
As we made our way further back down the long main corridor, we came across some more cell blocks, but these ones were designed and set up differently. The jail cells in these blocks all had heavy locking metal doors, each with a meal tray, but each cell contained a bunk-bed, therefore, these were all two-man cells.
Then the final cellblocks were located at the very end of the main corridor. These large, wide, modern, blue-colored cells would have certainly been where the lower security level inmates would have been held, along with inmates that have proven themselves to be well-behaved and ones that had the privilege of being able to utilize the deprograms, such as GED and supportive employment.
In addition to the main corridor and cell blocks, there was also a towel level to the prison that held the workshops, classrooms, weight room, barber shop, and the gymnasium.
The overall explore of this prison was long and thorough, as we wanted to make sure that we didn’t miss anything. Also, in certain areas of the cell blocks, some of the former prisoners had left behind belongings, inmate clothing and shower shoes, commissary sheets and items, personal letters, and even inmate legal paperwork.

Those screens had the images burned in to screen as the video games did back in the day
Those inmates understood the assignment... can't catch a write up if the ladies have all the parts covered 😂
looks very modern. great quality like always.. thanks for sharing with us 🤘
Thanks for sharing this location!
Almost 1000 inmates with 800 officers?? Damn thats a 2 to 1. When I did time it was 1 officer per 80 prisoners lol
Probably inclusive of admin, nurses, doctors maintenance or any other full time staff spread across 2-3 shifts and casual fill ins etc it’s possible they had a combined total of 800 staff
Every prison is not the same some states have more money then others
Crazy to think people stay in these boxes for years at a time.... almost seems inhumane
Very cool and erie video. Thanks for sharing.
I noticed the torn bed sheet clothes line . It was also used as a line to pass or receive something from another cell . U would tie a thin paper back book to it and slide it under the door and push it to another cell . Called it phishing ! Longer rope longer reach .
Beau Travail comme d'habitude🔬🍀🎬Alex From France🙏🌌
16:39 that's illegal. It's a civil right to have access to the law in your defense or to appeal a case. Even if you're in confinement, you have a right to case laws.
Abandoned Central Thanks for sharing this video with me about Exploring Abandoned Prison With Power it was a very interesting video i really enjoyed it and i can't wait to see your next video and God Bless
Thanks so much for the support. Its truly appreciated.
16:17 AC - those are my initials. I never went to prison and I'd be housed in the women's unit if I did, but thought that was cool to see. I love watching exploration videos. It's fascinating that these buildings are just sitting there unused. Regarding the power still on; someone should have called the company. If it's not in use, then no reason to have power to it going.
Still photography well done..
So very cool
Imagine exploring in their at night time
Wow, you can take a warm shower their if your power goes out, lol 😆 😅
Cool prison
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching our video!
Very cool to see!! Would be awesome to get some locks and keys from there!!
Oh wow that's amazing and creepy😳😊🌹
You saw tools that were laying in the reception and classification center. So if I was a betting man, I’d say the reason why there’s a lot of things missing is because there was a couple people that were going in there and talking the metal for scrap steel..
Those are old style cells . The other new ones cells , officers had more control of cellblock areas .
Thats a flash prison did a short stint of 17 years in high security prison can say i love watching these videos
Creepy!!! Thanks for another great explore. I'm surprised that there isn't any graffiti, it's nice to see the walls are clear.
Thanks for watching Amanda. Theres no graffiti because security is onsite at the prison everyday. Its hard one to explore.
Interesting place but wouldn't want to be there. Thank you
Prisons are full why dont they use this. It is stupid not to
With the amount if Illegal Immigrants/Asylum Seekers, a place like this would be a good place to house them, and keep them contained and tracked during the time they await their hearing to see if they qualify to remain here in the US. Also, they could earn their keep by renovating and repairing the place, to make it a livable situation for them and the next group coming to join them. Also a good place to educate the new occupants in speaking English and learning a trade to make it out in the working society if they are allowed to rem in in the US. Just a thought! Would love to know where this is located. As it would be a great conversation for public leaders to consider.
Great stills
Thank you!
0:23 Norman Bates 😂
This prison was really pretty nice!
Thanks for watching!
How do you get permission to explore inside ?
Was it easy to get into apart from the security?
Do they keep a guard at this place
21:20 This looks like where they filmed the prison riot scene in American me
Where is this prison located ?
What state is this located?
The way you describe the details sounds like you done time lol
Really modern well kept why was it never used again?
Surprised to see porcelain toilets ! 🤔
Could make a juvenile correction boot camp.
What is the name and location. Can you rent it ?
Great place, I'm shocked over the lack of graffiti!
Its a hard one to enter usually. Security is on site everyday. We went on a national holiday and they just happened to be off so we were able to explore it.
What state was his prison in? 13:03 13:04
Where was this?
SCI Greensburg - Pennsylvania
I figured out the location soley from the first establishing shot. Just had to flex
Is this in Michigan
no
Keep smashing them likes! 👍😁👍😁👍
Thanks so much for the support Mary!
Of course, now they will need to spend billions on a new facility to replace this one. It’s absolutely stupid.
We’re you just able to walk in since there was no security?
you looking great in the day time , but video the same at night it will be a different story, ?
It will just be dark. Exploring abandoned prisons at night isn’t scary. Now a hospital with power and all types of machines running with noise is a little different. That can start to get creepy in there.
mens prison or ladies prison
It closed because of declining prison population?? Where is this? That doesn’t sound right
What kind of correctional facility is this
This was a hospital not a correctional facility.
Okay, my apologies
This is SCI Greensburg, PA. It was a medium security prison for males
The hero is always in the comments section. 100% correct@@Kfortch
Law library rule is for u not to get help from a jailhouse lawyer . It is sink or swim on your own . The prison gets a lot of law suits .
Repurpose vacant prisons to house the homeless until they get back on their feet.
I would have took those tools and other stuff
It doesn't appear the short termers were treated like animals and kicked back onto the street with the rest of us. thanks for that anyway.
Oshkosh correctional institute. Holds over 3,000 inmates
Ha ha dam jails ,Norteno,Sereno,Pasis, brothers ,woodpile ,others ,fun and games life or death ,prob the most dangerous place to be in the world 😂,day in day out
