    My wife and I stayed at Aqualina 102 in Simpson Bay Dec 3 - 13, 2015 and it was 10 days in Paradise. We are from Winnipeg, Canada and just loved it there. I came back a changed person.
    I love your Canadian Flag.
    We did the 12 Metre Challenge and choose the Canadian Boat and sung our national anthem on the boat and shouted "True North" like we do at Jet games. It was a blast!
    We beat the USA team by 5 laps too!!!!!!! (Race is only 3 laps)
    Sint Maarten is the friendly island............with great drivers as well!

    we went to St Marten a couple of years ago on a carnival cruise ship, it was hot and we had a great tour over the entire island. I'd love to spend a week or more there someday

      funny you should ask as I was watching your vid in the marine store and at the time you were talking about the toilets, and my wife walk in and sais what the hell are you watching….which sais a lot about the way you present everything, as I do not even own a boat…ha I think it just was bringing up great memories of when I was a teenager in Redondo back in the late 60's into 70's and my friends parents would let us sail their Del Rey to catalina, we had soooo much fun, some of my fondest memories. I always wanted a Cal 30 or 28 or something like that, I thought those were the boats at the time, mina like the old nikon f camera…do love the drone shots and the walking around the shopping and drinking stations……

    I hope you're getting compensated by the Sint Maarten Tourism Bureau. This is the best video I've seen yet about Philipsburg. All the aerial video shots are very cool. I'm ready to book a vacation at Holland House. With ocean view rooms starting under $200 a night it's a bargain. Looking forward to Part 2. Take Care.

    • @SailingSophisticatedLady
      @SailingSophisticatedLady  Před 8 lety +1

      +Scott Hert Glad you enjoyed Scott, but no I'm not compensated by any tourism board here, strictly working on my own.. but hopefully the series will evolve into an entertaining and informative collection of videos about what is available in all the areas we sail! :)

  • @douglasmontgomery6315

    Great job Rick..thanks for the videos. Was thinking, could you maybe superimpose a chart at the beginning/end with some quick important data to a cruiser. IE. Crime/Expense (food, alcohol, goods (groceries..etc), dockage (marina/mooring). Just thought a scale 1-10 for various categories might be a nice touch.

  • @dianaofburlington5172

    This is a very cool idea and has the potential to be a great resource. Just keep it to more 'cool' than 'commercial' --please!
    (Music is great as always.)

    • @SailingSophisticatedLady
      @SailingSophisticatedLady  Před 8 lety

      +DianaOfBurlington I'm striving to make the series into a video cruising guide to the areas we sail... so it will always be about local businesses and services available in the featured area, and all my favourite hangouts and what they offer, and hopefully in a format that people find entertaining and informative at same time! :)

    • @dianaofburlington5172
      @dianaofburlington5172 Před 8 lety +1

      +Rick Moore Thanks, Rick. The 'informative' part is what the appeal is, I think. As a novelist doing research in these areas, I am always stymied by the lack of 'real' information, like what the locale really looks like, beyond the tourism sites and resorts and restaurants. Any time you go to a private party at a private house and can show us a little of what it's like 'off the beaten trail' is fascinating. Like, where do kids go to school? What trees grow there? Where does a cruiser buy groceries? And what kind of boats do the locals have? You can be a font of cool 'in-the-know' info for many of us.
      I meant what I said in the other post about meaning to sail into the eastern islands nex year! --down to you of course. :)

    • @SailingSophisticatedLady
      @SailingSophisticatedLady  Před 8 lety

      +DianaOfBurlington yes, you'll see all of that as the series progresses, and even in some of my other previous videos.. these first videos in St Martin will be more commercial because this is where we as cruisers come to get stuff done before heading to next islands.. but I have to realize there are others watching also that look for information on a grander scale that encompasses options for land dwellers as well.. Part 2 of Philipsburg will have an interview with a local in the area that tells stories of life behind the scenes there.. :)

  • @gamblinman9
    @gamblinman9 Před 8 lety

    Hi Capt Rick...good stuff! ...just a quick suggestion going forward...for those of us not so well acquainted with the geography of that area...please consider a map/chart introduction of the area that you will be featuring...I think the name of a site that I have used in the past was called 'google tour' ...or something similar that would have a broad/ariel view of your subject site (including a wide enough perimeter that would include other landmarks/ Islands, so we could get a feel for the locations) ....then perhaps pick it up from there with that nice drone of yours...
    ...sorry didn't have email address for you to share this idea...hope you find it helpful.
    Regards
    Capt Brian ;-)

    Hi Rick, I have enjoyed your videos and viewing your adventure for some time. I sailed the BVI on a bare boat charter with Conch in 2016, I was going to return this April however Irma wrecked the boat we had reserved. I would like to return to the Caribbean some day soon, I have noticed you tend to spend a considerable amount of time around Grenada. I presume Grenada is one of your favorites. I would like to sail from the BVI to Grenada return, I am looking for a bareboat charter who permits this extended type of cruise at an affordable price.I do not need a new boat I sail a 30 year old CS30 at home and am comfortable to repair on the fly. For a quick cruise I hope to complete in 2 months

    Rick - you seem to have a number of drones in your arsenal - did you use them all for this video, or do you find yourself favoring one more than others?

    • @SailingSophisticatedLady
      @SailingSophisticatedLady  Před 8 lety

      +chambersdjc This video was filmed mostly with one of the first generation Splash Drones.. that's why there is still shaking in some of the scenes.. but the new generation with upgraded firmware is much better now.. still won't compare to what I can film with the Inspire drone, but does a real good job and it's nice to be able to fly over water without worrying about losing it if it goes down, Lol
