The truth is: There is racism in every genre of music because unfortunately there are idiots everywhere. Humanity will probably never get rid of that. Therefore, racists should be isolated as much as possible and simply not given a platform.

In a slightly happier mention of Pat Smear, Pat was one of the background extras in Prince's ""Raspberry Beret" music video, he (Pat) was out of work at the time in '85 but one of his buddies was the casting director for the studio's video department. And despite having two left feet in Pat's own words, Prince liked his look and wanted him (Pat) to sit by the drum set. (Pat had very very long dreads at the time) And thus, there goes the story of how a Foo Fighter was in a Prince video years before Nirvana and/or the Foo Fighters were even thought of. Pat Smear was only 26 at the time.
I've been a metalhead since I sold my soul , back in the 1970 with Sabbath , grew up in subsidized housing , have black friends and had black dudes I didn't like .. that's life , not racism .. time to start looking forward again and stop looking backwards like all of us have been since 9/11 .. really investigate to see how evil a government can be .. just saying .. I know it hurts

Smokey every time you say 'jive turkey' i think of my stepdad, he was a lovely man and he always said he was a black man trapped inside of a white man's body LOL... he said jive turkey all the time, and he introduced me to some really great music! Music is the one thing we all have in common, the one thing that should bring us all together and yet we find such divisive elements to it, racism sexism all that shit... but I'm holding out hope for rock and Metal to actually cure or at least help heal racism especially within the reaction community. These days you see so many young people of all Races reacting to old school rock and metal, they're loving it and I feel like it's bringing us even closer together as one world...i hope.
When I was little I had dolls of course, but they were mostly ignored because I loved my rubber snakes and alligators and dinosaurs and of course all the stuffed animals. My imaginary friends were alligators! I had a whole family of them, they drove a red sports car, I would make my mom pick them up and carry them across the street if we were out walking, and I also made her hold elevator doors open so they could all get on and curl their tails in before the doors closed on them!

Very rare to have any racism in the metal scene maybe the rock scene but metal artists usually are some of the most wholesome people ever

As someone who’s an ex hip hop head and knows everything about rap I can confirm that racism does exist in rap and exists more in rap than in any other genre. And I can confidently say that it’s not so much from the music industry it’s more so from the fans themselves and almost all of it is on social media. Go to any social media platform and search up any underground or 80’s/ 90’s hip hop pages and search for any posts with Eminem included and about 90% of those comment sections will be filled with Eminem haters and racists. “Eminem is a culture vulture” “Eminem is racist” “nobody bumps Feminem in the club” (they love calling him “Feminem”) “black people don’t relate to him” and they always use “My Name Is” when trying to discredit him. Let’s not forget that without Eminem there would be no D12, Royce, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, G-Unit, The Game, Obie Trice or Yelawolf which were all signed to Shady Records. And Eminem came from poverty and also dealt with racism just like black people, he grew up in the worst places of Detroit.
Compared to rap? Nothing.

I've noticed with rap, that many aren't afraid to be racist towards white rappers.. Like sure its not the majority, but those who say it aren't exactly ashamed or scared to be racist. Rock/blues/classical did without a doubt did have racism, but so did music as a whole in that era. Modern metal today, I'd argue has very little racism.. Since metal fans love metal bands all over the world, and love bands using culture instruments and bringing them into the fold.. India/Japan/Australia/Brazil/Russia ect ect

It’s unfortunately everywhere which is a learned trait bur the metal community is the most accepting with open arms. When I’m at a metal show i can talk to anyone and feel like friends with anyone. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Skinheads originated in the UK with predominantly Jamaican immigrants and the white working class. I'm a big fan of skinhead reggae, ska, and, Oi! music, all of which has roots in the late 60s/early 70s culture and music in the UK.
The short answer is “yes of course because it has a diversity of people in it and some people are racist.”
Is it intrinsically racist? No. Is racism any more of an issue than it is in general society? Not as far as I’ve ever seen.
Does that mean we should ignore evidence of racism when it does show itself? No - it is beholden on all of us to stand up against prejudice and intolerance wherever and whenever we see it. The only form of intolerance that a tolerant society has to have is intolerance to intolerance.
Yes pat boone made a career ripping off black artists by doing their songs. Also watch rumble how Indians rocked the world. It's about native Americans who influenced well known artists but never got recognition. The movie was on pbs and won Sundance film festival. Randy Castillo one of people featured in the film as well guy from Metallica

Hey man I grew up in Trenton New Jersey pretty rough Hood when I went to Junior College on a track scholarship my best friend Big James 6 foot 8 black brother loved metal we went to Metallica in 93 at the Spectrum in Philly I liked everything growing up I 12 inch discs and a mixer making tapes you gravitate to the music you like colored don't matter when it comes to music don't let people put you in a box bu I'm 55 years old still discovering music get out of your box open your mind explore new genres you don't how to like everything please give it a listen don't worry about what other people say do you😮

The unfortunate thing about music is how it’s perceived. How many times do you listen to a songs lyrics and will assume it’s about one subject when in reality the artist had a completely different view or will leave it to interpretation. I think people will make up their own interpretations depending on their OWN feelings, opinions, views etc.. As universal as I believe music should be and less about branding it a color, creed, or sexual orientation people are responsible for the way music is perceived
If I like the music then I will listen to it.
First off Steve Young sat on the bench behind Joe Montana for 2 and a half years, so anyone talking crap about drafting one when you have one is stupid. And yes, there is racism in Rock/Metal just like there is racism in all walks of life. Both individual and systematic.

Skinheads were originally Northern Soul/Two Tone fans, and the look was copied by racists afaik.
I'd say, from my limited experience, racism, sexism and homophobia are bigger in rap than any other genre, especially from the US due to the social history. Seeing Pulp Fiction reactions is telling, as the same black guys who get offended by the N word, often really, really dislike the pawn shop scene too.
Rap music was embraced in Europe by rock fans before it became top 40 music, due to heavy beats and plant usage… Aside from popular festivals, which attract general audiences, rock shows have some of the most inclusive crowds.
The only genre with racism is rap.
Well punk has a history of anti-racist and anti-authoritarian lyrics and speeches. Metal has very little of that. But metal has some great anti-racist acts such as Napalm Death, Sepultura, and a newer act here in New Mexico called Spectral Decay
There are strong racial divisions, people are racist, therefore, genres are racist to some extent
I'm glad you enjoyed upon a burning body! I'm more jealous at the fact you got to see the browning. Love that band. But I'm my experience with concerts since 93, the people are beyond friendly and become your best friends at the show. I've personally never experienced racism at metal shows but on the streets? OHHHHH YEAH! The biggest band I know of that all racist people I've encountered listen to Pantera. Although i did see a ton of neo nazis at the hanzel und gretyl show. I was laughing because that band mocks that group. What I've seen and heard is a member may be racist but their music isn't. All walks of life love metal. The real problem is people tend to judge by character, not color, and the second you dont like or tolerate a single person that is a different color than you because you cant stand theor character, you are automatically racist.
The only racism you’ll find is like racism anywhere else, it doesn’t exclude itself from anything, there’s just bad peope everywhere, but if we’re tryna be specific here, the black metal bands for Norway a lot of the times have a pretty racist/satanic/antisemitic ideology, but it’s very known for that, it’s not like they try to hide it and for regular metal bands, it’s like I said there’s a holes in every culture

I just think there's unfortunately racism pretty much anywhere. I've all colors and all genders be racist towards some other group of people. I had an Australian guy come come into my store the other night. I was curious about the accent ao I asked where he was from. And his response once, "I'm a Chinese fella. I got surgery to all that ugly yella off me." Like... Bro... And then he came back in like a hour later (he was a Door Dasher) and made the exact same (what he thinks) "joke" to a another customer who asked about where he was from. It was ridiculous. He probably gets sick of answering that question but no need to say something racist

I wouldn't say there is racism in rock/metal. I would say that its just stereotyping. Rock/metal is predominantly white and rap is predominantly black. That is something people would agree with but its not racist. However, there are actually all kinds of races who love each of these genres. When you learn of music that skinheads or neo-Nazi's listening to, that doesn't mean the band or performer has the same thought process. I can't think of any band that would sing about anything that those type of people would lean to nowadays. Maybe Rammstein just a little because they are German and they use the German eagle in their logo. That's about all I can think of.

tl;dr - A genre is as racist as the individual who interacts with it.
There's a lot of angles that you can take when asking the question "Is Rock and roll racist?". I think the most important three are, the fans, the artists, and the R&R industry.
There are a few bands that have fandoms with very racist overtones, and this can happen whether the band supports this or not. This of course is really hard to pin point why, because when you're talking about a lot of different people. That said, R&R is kind of a predominantly white, and often times metal heads will have some prejudice to certain black artists even if they won't admit it.
The musicians most of the time are pretty progressive minded, specially the younger they are. It is important ot mention that a lot of older american and british rock and metal artists have become uncharacteristically conservative as they grow old, Neil young, Bruce Dickinson, and Gene Simmons to name a few. Rock and roll paints a picture of "Started from the bottom, now we here", for the genre as a whole, but a lot of the greatest artists, specially in the 60s and 70s come from middle to high class upbringings. Hell, fans love to mention how many rock stars have college degrees and doctorates, you don't see that type of elitism in Hip Hop, generally. Last point here, musicians are people, so you will see afew racist musicians, even if they don't play "racist music", however the punk scene does have some legit neo nazi cells that strive on the "Rebel against the system" mentality that punk provides.
The music industry is racist, but I think more so than that it is elitist. The barrier of entry to the R&R industry is super expensive, specially for this "selfmade" image that R&R likes to LARP. If you want to be a rock musician, you need a band, so gather 3 to 5 people that you're in tune with and who also have free time. You need to buy instruments, and amps, and if you're playing metla you need all sorts of pedals, and effect boxes. This is all even before you all star playing, and nowadays people won't even listen to you if you play covers, you need to write your own songs from scratch. This is not necessarilly racist, but it is racist by proxy taking into account that a lot of people of color are living below their needs in most white majority countries like the USA, UK or Australia.
There are certainly as many racists in rock as there are in rap. There's ignorant, hateful people everywhere, including art.

Growing up in the 70s U.K., there was a lot of tension between the neo-Nazi right wing type skinheads, and the culturally inclusive types. While skinheads became synonymous with racist Nazi groups, there are certainly many “anti-racist” (I would just say, normal) skinheads. The punk groups are often skinheads and many are very inclusive - in fact, the majority of punk I know are totally “anti-racist”. Being punk is about being an outsider, and finding community with other outsiders - and welcoming anyone who sees themselves as outside the mainstream. Yes, being a Nazi is outside of the mainstream and I think that’s why punk appeals to certain groups, but most punks reject intolerance because that’s the opposite of welcoming people who are “different”.
In the U.K., groups like the Specials and other two tone groups who embraced skinhead were loudly anti-racist and promoting inclusivity.
Birthdays - I know you have no ill intent, but as someone who works in cyber security, getting people to reveal personal info that is sometimes used as part of validating someone’s identity is not a good idea. I suggest you change to asking for “put in a date that means something to you without saying why it means something” - so people might put their birthday, or wedding day, or their pets birthday, or anything else. That way it’s not available for people with ill intent to grab and potentially abuse.
I get most people don’t think of these things - it’s part of my job to be alert to ways bad people might abuse information.
Black being associated with “bad” in many ways has nothing to do with race. It comes from the night and the dark being dangerous when we were hunter gatherers out on the plains when predators and threats could be lurking in the shadows. We are evolved to have a “fear of the dark” for valid survival reasons.
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to avoid such terms and language now where different analogies can be used. So for example, we used to say “put that on the blacklist” meaning it is banned, but it is both more accurate and avoids an inadvertent negative racial stereotype by using “put that on the banned list” instead. It’s a simple change to try to remember to make, but it might make a small contribution to removing those negative stereotypes of race so…why not? There’s no real downside to trying to avoid such phrases, and I find the only people who seem to object to it are those looking to justify perpetuating racial inequality.
