      Well, actually this "contemporary worship" isn't even worship indeed. It is a true talent shown in these so-called new churches because the leadership is afraid of losing members, especially the youngest ones if they are not allowed to do what they want, which is an opportunity to show up somehow. "Contemporary worship" is not worship because it isn't even addressed to God, it's something to please themselves.

    Even as a Christian, I cry out "I am chiefest of sinners!"
    I hear back "grace, grace, grace to you! I called you before the foundations of the world were laid, and you are mine!"
    I am brought low by this truth daily. I have nothing to bring, to offer or give. Ever.
    All praise to you, Lord Christ Jesus!

    Psalms... they're like hymns, but theologically correct. I am increasingly being sold on exclusive psalmody and acapella worship. Always reforming. Beautiful.

    To this my prayer, oh listen Lord
    And let my cry for help reach you,
    In day of grief hide not your face,
    Your listening ear toward me, oh bend,
    The day I call, your answer send.
    For all my days go up in smoke,
    And like a hearth my bones are burned,
    Like grass my heart is crushed and dried,
    I daily food forgotten leave,
    My skin and bones together cleave.
    With sighs and groans my frame resounds,
    I’m like a desert pelican,
    Or like an awl in ruined waste,
    I lie awake as on the roof,
    A sparrow stands alone, aloof.
    All day my foes their taunts repeat,
    Those filled with anger curse my name,
    I food with tears and ashes mix,
    For you on me in anger frown,
    You raise me up to throw me down.
    An evening shadow are my days,
    Like grass I wither soon away,
    But you, Jehovah sit enthroned,
    Forever your memorial,
    Abides through generations all.

    • @ginacosby316
      @ginacosby316 Před 10 měsíci

      @finaldaylight3804 I am not a musician nor a church historian, so I could not give you a technical answer. Maybe one of my many brothers and sisters here could explain how that works.
      Many other psalms sang a capella in the Reformed churches do not follow the biblical psalms ipsis litteris, however they convey their core message, at the same time that the words are inserted in the metrics, melody lines etc... I imagine it is like writing a poem.
      I can see the message of the original Psalm 102 being properly delivered in this song. It touches my soul profoundly, especially in times when going through grief and sadness. What a wonderful reminder of the passing nature of this world, which dims in face of the eternal path we have ahead of us in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. To Him be the glory today and forever and ever. And ever. And ever more.

    I’m baptist but I just read a book by rosaria butterfield and she talked of this reformed Presbyterian Church. The more she shared, the more I felt this was what I was looking for. I’ve never heard of this before. I want to by my first psalter through crown and covenant but I don’t know how to sing them. Surely I will feel God through this music. The songs Jesus sang.
    There are still songs I love to sing, such as How Great Thou Art, but they are few. Most songs today are too much music and not enough Spirit or Word. Maybe God will help me learn these songs and teach them to my children.

      I grew up in the RP church with this psalter (and exclusive psalmody) and it has been such a blessing in my life. I was actually at this conference and it’s so beautiful to hear all those brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world praising the same God! These psalms have been written on my heart and I hope they will soon be in your’s and your children’s hearts! ❤️ (let me know if you need some psalm recommendations, I have lots of favorites ;) )

    Thank you.This Psalm is from the 1651 Psalms in metre. These are sung acapella by Reformed Churches in Scotland and America. The Lord took me from the fearful pit of sin and condemnation, which is the porch to hell and from wallowing in the miry clay of iniquity and degradation. The glorious triune God set my feet upon that sure rock which is Christ in His amazing counter imputation. He, as the Kinsman Redeemer, lovingly, became responsible for the consequences of my sin and set me free.

I spent years in agony, searching and praying, because no matter how hard I tried and how many pastors I spoke to I knew in my heart that such a thing is simply incompatible with a loving God. I've heard all the arguments for it and they fall short. I imagine you now think that means I am preordained to burn in hell too.

      Or like an owl in ruined wastes.
      7 I lie awake, as on the roof
      A sparrow stands, alone, aloof.
      4. 8 All day my foes their taunts repeat;
      Those filled with anger curse my name.
      9 I food with tears and ashes mix,
      10 For You on me in anger frown;
      You raised me up to throw me down.
      5. 11 An ev'ning shadow are my days;
      Like grass I wither soon away.
      12 But You, Jehovah, sit enthroned
      Forever; Your memorial
      Abides through generations all.

    Anglican chant is a lot harder to learn since it doesn't rhyme or have steady rhythm, when done well, it is my favorite, but the arranged psalms sung to hymn tunes is probably best for congregational singing :)

    It isn't a concept that there is preordained eternity, it isn't an argument either, it's what the Bible says. Acts 4 says that God predestined Jesus death for sinners: "for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place
    " (Acts 4:27-28).

    I attended an RPCNA church for about a year. And i like psalm singing, but why do people say "it is singing the psalms" when there are NO musical notes or arrangements IN the Psalms of the Bible? ONLY THE WORDS are "the psalms" and NOT the octaves or scale or timing or notes or melodies ... no bass or treble clef is in the bible book of Psalms?? meh .... all of those things were added later by men. not by God???
    Personally i prefer Eastern Orthodox chants in terms of worshipful aesthetic beauty but i fail to find those in the bible either. :-\

    why is it so hard for an all powerful being to reveal himself and give us truth to a lost people and preserve it? Why do you hate God for being just and merciful? why do you accept mans word over your creators? I ask questions that God already answered: man is sinful and in willful rebellion to God, and the more he revealed himself the more we hated him, he came and died for our sin so those who believe would live, and those who did not would recieve justice for their sin.

    @mimmar391: God finds no pleasure in the death of the wicked, we know. And no one is going into hell because they had no "chance" to get into heaven. Yet, it is pretty clear in the Bible that some people God foreordained to hell, and some to heaven. To go against that is to deny what the Bible says. Ultimately, God chooses us:

    A small quibble: this isn't a Psalm. It's a Psalm paraphrase. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it's to Psalm 102 what Luther's 'Mighty Fortress' is to Psalm 46. Does your church body sing the actual Psalms, meaning the verbatim Psalm text?

    @CincinnatusUSA @CincinnatusUSA (Continued from my previous comment) There simply isn't space here to list all the reasons but let's put it this way. Does an inventor who designed a product prone to system crashes and failures get angry with the product? No, that would be foolish, because he's the one who designed it. I don't know if you're a parent, but if so, can you imagine throwing your child into an eternal lake of fire for disobeying? And God is infinitely greater than us.

  • @cabecarpenter

    @mimmar3891 And yet, I don't think that you will be in hell because of your wrong belief considering considering God's election/predestination. If you are doubting your salvation, call on God, like the psalm song "God be merciful to me, on thy grace I rest my plea, plenteous in compassion thou, blot out all my transgression now"
    I have friends who are Christians who struggle with the idea of a God who predestines. Yet, I don't snub them for it. I'm sorry for you if people have snubbed you.

    @Islandretreat With all due respect, you cannot possibly know that we don't worship the same God. You firmly believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. I firmly believe it is not so your comments regarding Apostacy and damnation hold no water with me. With that gulf between us, I know I won't convince you of what I now see so clearly. Before, I prayed the sinner's prayer out of fear. God in the Old Testament, a being who wiped out entire civilizations, including babies, terrified me. (cont.)

    • @BigSkyTheology
      @BigSkyTheology Před 5 lety

      N B your question is lunacy. Have you ever been to a college? They have auditoriums, usually with a lectern with the name of the college on it. Why don’t you try to care about something that matters.

      @niallbrowne9129 Před 5 lety

  • @mimmar3891

    I could write a book on all the reasons why I no longer believe the Bible. But at the heart of it is this: Even the most callous of parents would rarely if ever desire to throw their beloved child into a fire for five minutes. God has given us a tiny fraction of his love and compassion, so that such a thought repulses us. How then can we reconcile divine love with eternal damnation? If you want to continue this discussion feel free to message me here on CZcams because I have much more to say!

    Bart D. Ehrman has been debated and beat, questioned and came up short, and found inconsistent in many areas of his points. Bart also corrupts the gospel and makes it less glorious in its truth. God can reveal truth and preserve it, man denies that truth because man hates God.

    @StringsAndVerses The vast majority of these so-called enemies have never even heard of the bible, much less the "plan of salvation." And those who hear it and are unable to believe it, such as myself, certainly don't self-identify as enemies of God. You may call them that but it's simply ridiculous. Please don't start quoting verses. I grew up in a Christian home and have read the bible several times. All my careful studying is what led me to the conclusion that the bible is simply a book.
