    I went with a 2015 Jeep Patriot that was used in October 2021 after my Kia Sorento SX V6 engine blew up. It had about 31,500 miles on it at the end of October 2021 when I bought it and although it's definitely not as fancy as the Sorento, it really runs good and we had some accumulating snow and drove it for the first time in the snow on my way home from work. I will tell you it way outperformed the Sorento in the snow and I was just very happy that it did what it needed to do. I didn't slide around at all and I definitely would have in the Sorento. I am getting roughly 24 miles per gallon combined and my big thing is I just wish the gas tank was bigger. I only get about 300 miles before I have to fill it up and it's a few miles after the fuel light comes on. It does fine on the interstate for sure and handles really good. The radio isn't that good, but I don't really care. The car was in pristine condition when I bought it and it still is in my opinion. There are things that I'm still trying to get used to but would I buy another one? Absolutely!!! Thank you for the video.

    Part of the strength in sales is that you still have many drivers who do not want some of the added features such as backup cameras, blindspot monitoring and other crash prevention technologies. Because quite frankly, some people actually prefer to drive and use their own skills rather than getting a dumbed down "let's do it for you, so that your already poor driving habbits get even worse" competing vehicle.
    The same goes for the design, sometimes simplicity is best. Even the shape of the vehicle, while everyone's going for the sleek, ugly looking, what gets the bets fuel economy design, you've stil got that basic block shaped vehicle, which honestly, not only looks better than the newer junk designs but can be more practical in terms of space use (both internally and using the roofracks).

    Yeah, you could get more bells and whistles on a cherokee or other competitor for close to the same dollar, but I don't mind because the body style/curb appeal of the patriot is so nostalgic! The cherokees have really gone away from the old rugged style, and this is closest thing to the jeep glory days. I won't get tired of this one like I would any other SUV, so for the money I'll spend now will save me in 5-7 years when I still love driving my patriot :)

    I have a stock 2008 4x4 limited model. It's been awesome for me in Colorado. I wanted an inexpensive 4x4 to commute to college and back to my parents on holidays/weekends in all seasons. It's lasted me 5 years without any major problems and is still going strong. It's not fast, or flashy but it's been reliable, great on gas, great in the snow/rain, and surprisingly good offroad. I'm not driving it up Chicken Corners in Moab Utah, but if your taking it up to the Rockies it'll be able to go most places anything else can. Another great factor is that it's cheap which allows upgrades if you want. Check out rocky-road outfitters for some patriot aftermarket stuff.
    The only gripe I have is the engine/cvt transmission which does rev high if you push it. I'd highly recommend it if you have college students that need a capable vehicle.

    These are so popular in my opinion for a few reasons. Fairly roomy, decent ground clearance, good MPG’s, Leather as an option, and of course 4x4 for most of the population will use for snow, light off road as needed / mud. As a daily driver, comfortable and good amount of cargo room and affordable. Wins left and right. Place some decent aggressive AT or MT tires and you can go pretty much where you want minus major off roading which most will never do

    Bought a new '15 Patriot four years ago. Still looks and drives like new. No body rattles or squeaks. 5-speed manual transmission fixes the fuel mileage and performance issues. 20% of my driving is off pavement on dirt roads and trails that frequently turn to mud. No problem with FD1 drive train. AC, cruise control, power accessories, etc. included in $18.1 K price. 16" wheels with high profile tires = quieter ride than flashy 17" wheels with low profile tires. I tried the base AM-FM w/CD system the day I took delivery just to see if it worked. It did, and I haven't turned it on since. The Jeep is for transport; I have a living room for that other stuff.

    I bought a brand new 2015 Patriot a year and a half ago, and I love it. It has the same 6 speed Freedom drive that this tested unit has, but it also has the all weather winter package with all terrain OWL tires, fog lights and engine block heater. I find that I agree pretty much with all you say except for the mileage. Granted, in the winter when I use the remote starter in our cold Vermont climate, my mileage drops to 19 MPG or so, because it idles a lot while warming up. However, in the summer, my average around town mileage comes in at 24 MPG. On my 8 hour trip to see my fiancée in Canada, or my recent trip of 3200 miles to see my folks in Florida I get very good highway mileage. If I stay around 70 to 75 mph, I consistently average 27 mpg. If I drive long miles on roads where I hold to 50 to 60 mph, I come in at 31 mpg. I think both of those figures are great, and I am very happy with them. Thanks for a great review!

      Please, do you know if your Jeep's ESC (stability control) works when in 4X4 mode ? Or all wheels lock up in 4x4 mode? Can you turn the ESC on and off in 4x4 mode ?

    • @chuckvt5196
      @chuckvt5196 Před 8 lety

      Yes, the stability control works in the 4X4 mode, and you can turn it on and off. The 4X4 mode only works at speeds up to 35 mph, and after that it reverts to the standard all wheel drive.

    • @dekzan
      @dekzan Před 8 lety

    • @chuckvt5196
      @chuckvt5196 Před 8 lety +1

      It is AWD normally, sending power to whatever wheel needs it. When you use the 4x4 lock, it gives power to all four wheels all the time, but only up to 35 MPH, then it will default back to AWD.

    I'm 6'4 and rode in one of these last month. I was surprised. Had to watch my head a little getting in it, but once inside had plenty of head and leg room. No, it's not going to wow you at all on the power, but the ride was comfortable. I've heard to go with the 6-speed and not the variable transmission option. It makes the power issue seem even worse. The best thing was what he said at the end, good value below 20 grand, and the front end LOOKS LIKE A JEEP. ....thinking about getting one myself.

    I literally just bought this car. (Car details below) and I love it so much. I’ve never been a new Jeep person, but even with the unibody build it’s amazing. It feels a lot more fun than a lot of modern vehicles because it’s so utilitarian. It reminds me of why I love old trucks and off roaders. I don’t want something that feels like it’s going to be ruined if I get some dirt, mud, or food inside of it. Mine isn’t a Latitude, but it’s a ‘16 2.4 L Semi-Automatic Transmission. It’s got 4x4 and its felt great in the snow already. Coming off of such new nanny vehicles like my 20 Corolla it feels refreshing stepping back a bit. And because this was outdated in 2016, it just feels like an 09 style vehicle with extremely low miles. Mine has the standard much cheaper sound system (which isn’t great to connect to my phone; but I’m glad it does)
    Seriously, I HIGHLY recommend this car in 2023

    I have the 2017 Patriot. An excellent vehicle for the price I paid, under 20,000 brand new including tax and prep. Coming from my previous 2002 Jeep Liberty, I was surprised the 2.4 liter of the Patriot has about the same acceleration of the 3.7 V6 in the Liberty. Of course, the Liberty keeps going past 90, where the Patriot starts to labor. Handling is so much better in the Patriot, as is the gas mileage. It has so little body roll, where the Liberty had quite a bit. Two things I miss, though. The Liberty had a more commanding view of the road, and it's thick sheet metal and rubber wheel well lips kept it well protected from door dings. Not so for the much lighter duty Patriot. Every vehicle has its pluses and minuses, and the Patriot is a cool ride for under 20K new. Too bad Jeep replaced it with the lesser quality and smaller Compass.

    Huh, I've got a 2015 Sport/Altitude Patriot with the FD1 4x4 system and I average 25 mpg on my fill ups. Even got up to 33 on one trip. I find that using the stick part of the autostick transmission really helps out on the mileage since the auto holds onto the gears a little too long, especially when cruise control is being used. Overall I love the thing, just wish it had a bigger gas tank and a full-size spare.

    I notice that you're test driving a Patriot with about 1700 miles (according to the instrument cluster in one of the shots). That may have something to do with why you're seeing the 20 mpg range for mixed driving. I know that when we bought our Dart last year (11/4/2014) that the dealership told us not to expect the mileage listed on the window sticker until about the 5,000 mile mark - and that's exactly what happened. Once the Dart (with the 2.0L / 6 speed automatic) eclipsed 5,000 miles, she had more power and started pulling 38+ mpg on the highway.

    That's why there's so much appeal with these; they're simple, no-frills SUVs that are highly versatile like all Jeeps, only with a more sedate idea in mind. They're relatively inexpensive and styling is on point - it isn't gaudy or cheap like the rest of the competition and it isn't trying to disguise the fact that it's an SUV true and true.

    I agree 29 grand is to much. I just traded my 2014 in for 2015 for upgrades. Both have been solid in terms of reliability. Mind you jeep is and never was a luxury brand, and there for the refinements of comfort things like that aren't something that should be expected of much more luxurious brands or models. It's something I can personally live with just fine. Plus they just look cool for a little guy!! Also keeping in the low to mid 20's for price you won't do bad in that price range!

    These are nice compact suv"s. you can find them used for good prices. You dont need all the fancy crap on this one. I have the 2016 sport with freedom 2. If you want to go off road get the freedom 2 it has an additional 1" lift, skid plates, oil and trans coolers, 19 to 1 crawling gear. these have great braking I was tested yesterday twice, once by someone running a red light its brakes very well lol.

    I'm looking into small SUV's of this class. I really want a Manual transmission and simple interior technology. (I'm not a fan of touch screens and tons of car tech as it usually breaks first.) What would you recommend? Under 20k for something lightly used or new.

      Go Renegade, Or Something Besides This, I took this on a road trip and hated it. You have to push the engine so hard to get it to do anything, it loves the dirt and gravel; but it hates steep grades. When I got in it felt like the cabin was overpressurized and it eventually gave me a headache. The radio/audio is nice, but the older escape's have a better sound setup. The windshield wipers are slow and useless in heavier rain, If you use the rear hatch; you will constantly hit your head on the interior trim. the steering is also a little too tight, it gives you this feeling that if you corner too quickly that understeer is biting at your heels. Overall, A Great City Car But If You Want Something Nice, Get Something Else

    I enjoy Sam Haymart's reviews. He has 2 Jeep Patriot reviews online. The first review he said the 2.4 liter automatic with 4 wd averaged about 25 MPG. The second review with the white Patriot only averaged 20 MPG ? He's right about the $29,000 price, that's way too much. I paid $18,100 for a 2016 Patriot with 2.4 liter and 4wd. I got it with 5spd. manual and with the all weather capability group ( special mats, daytime running lights , tow hooks and the engine block heater ) . The dealer gave me free oil changes for life and free state inspections. The 2016 model came standard with the Sirius radio and a 1 year subscription plus a Bluetooth audio system. It was an offer I couldn't refuse.

      My 2016 Patriot was 2.4 liter, 4 x4 , 5 spd. manual with crank windows and manual locks. I prefer the crank windows because you can open them when the car is off, but I wish I had power locks. That I'll miss. But I drove in the old days and it's no big deal to me.

    It’s 2022 and prices SUCK right now! I just bought 2016 Patriot manual transmission 5 speed. I paid $17k and the vehicle has 23,000 miles and one owner. The car is on very good condition inside and out! Almost like new. No power windows, couple of flaws (door locks) the dealer said they would fix, no USB ports and I don’t think I can connect my phone to car BUT I’m not sure because I did hit a button and the car was talking to me asking me to tell it a number to dial 🤷🏼‍♂️ I like the car I really do, and I may modify and upgrade it, I just hope I didn’t get ripped off but I couldn’t afford nicer SUVs, you pay a LOT for a used, high mileage vehicle right now so for me to get a 5 yr old car with only 23k miles on it I had to do it. Dealer said only reason it didn’t sell was because of manual, but I really like driving manual so it is what it is. I just hope the vehicle holds up well. Dealer said NO recalls for my vehicle so that’s good. What do y’all think? Oh, totally basic wheels, not nice rims at all. I still like it

    I like your review, but I must comment on a few things..I purchased a 2008 model 3 yrs ago..Lets hit the downfalls first.Electrical issues,, Ex-4x4 issues.. Very big pain when you have this problem, Hard and expensive to track down.RUST issues - Every patriot I have seen around the 2008 mark have the same rust at the same places on "EVERY ONE" of them,..that being the rear fender well.. The rest of the body appears to have no probs.That's about it for downfalls that I've found,.. Now for the ++points..The unit I have has the 2.4lt,, is the 4x4 northern edition model.The pluses I have found are-FUEL - first thing I did when I got mine was of course check on the fuel stats.. I was very surprised to find I was getting "up to" 35MPH highway and 22-23 in town. This was better then I expected.BREAKING system - Superb braking control..saved more then one accident. The baby stopped on a dime from 30mph.. 5 star for that. As for ride,,, 4.5 star on that.. you have to remember it's a jeep,,not a 60-80g veh.4X4 operation - when working,,ha ha,, did a beautiful job. Was in a situation where I had to traverse a 45degree dirt road,, from a dead stop at bottom...It hardly skipped a rock,,. 5 Star on 4x4 ......Power - (I use hightest fuel) for a 2.4 engine , I have been set back in my seat a few times.. When I first got the truck I had the need to pass a slower veh on a country highway..LET ME TELL YA,,,when she hits up around 3.5-4+ rpm you'll find where the horse power is then..! Very surprised when you hit 4g+ rpm...INSTRUMENTATION - I like the simple straight forward approach.. All the fancy stuff they have out today is making drivers weak in driving skills,,. The backup cam,,assist whatever,, and that sort of stuff is garbage.. Keep it simple works for me.AUDIO system - Mine has the standard am/fm/cd unit. 2 front door and 2back door speakers sound great. 4.5 star for that.. (and I'm fussy lol)OVER all if I was in the market and had 30g to spend, I would not hesitate buying a new Patriot..

    Practical, sensible, logical, good bang for the buck so to speak. Not a lot of non-needed expensive "whiz bang" techy crap to jack up the price and then be very expensive to repair later - HOW DARE THEY!!!
    As far as everyone "whining" about the 2.4 a couple of points: The 2.4s when proper maintenance is done are almost indestructible and you should never buy a Jeep for performance anyway.
    The 6-speed automatic added in 2014 was a gigantic improvement from the CVT but these are best with 2.4 tied to a manual 5-speed but to many folks today cannot bare the thought of having to pay attention to their driving.
    Now we have the new and improved Compass for only several thousand dollars more than this w/such highly important things as start/stop technology - duhhh....
